Matt's take on the Shiloh Hendrix case has been remarkably solid. He focused on the strategic value of standing up for someone being targeted for cancellation in order to delegitimize cancellation tactics in general. He also pointed out that conservative finger waggers are in the wrong for making up excuses why you shouldn't be supporting Shiloh. So far so good, but that's not why I'm posting about it.
What's interesting is how it puts him at odds with Ben Shapiro, who of course did the typical Con Inc thing and tried to throw Shiloh under the bus. It seems that in the recent year or two, Matt's opinions have been increasingly at odds with Ben's on several contentious issues. They agree on superfluous and easy things like the blue hairs and troons, but they are saying the exact opposite thing on issues like immigration, support for Israel, and US involvement in the Ukraine war. Most remarkably, Matt just appeared on Tucker's show for a long interview, which is notable because, beyond disagreeing on everything, Tucker and Ben just flat out hate each other's guts, and not even pretending otherwise. There, Matt doubled down on every single issue that separates him from the Daily Wire party line.
Here's my prediction: Matt is slowly building himself an independent future outside the Daily Wire, and while he is not in a hurry to burn his bridges like Candace Owens (which is very "white guy vs. black woman"), he is setting things up for a soft landing for when it happens. He will probably be out within the year.
