For group homes there tend to be a firewall that just blocks social media and pornografic sites (God I hope so).

Off topic pl but I once knew a guy who ran it and actually had to configure a firewall to Block certain sites. At first it was a no Brainerd blocking pornhub, only fans, xvideos, and so on. Then while monitoring the screens he ended up exposed to the really messed up sites. The IT team got exposed to so much furry porn, hentai, and so much degenerate coomer fap fodder that they threw their hands up and said fuck it.

They turned the firewall up to max and blocked any site that didn't use edu or gov as a domain if nobody could be around to monitor the screens...I imagine that is going to be a similar situation at gateway if it isn't already

How come the streets are full of mentally ill who probably could benefit from a group living situation like what chris has been granted, some of them probably deserve it. What makes Chris so special that he gets sent off to a place to care for him on the tax payer dollar while tens of thousands of others are just rotting on the street.

I mean, people realize how often folks get released from jail or prison and go straight to the street or homeless shelter right? It's very, very common.

There are lots of people wanting a chance at a home situation like you mentioned, many waiting for years to get any kind of housing. This is Chris' first opportunity away from Barb.

Sadly, the US system is pretty messed up... getting benefits can be tough, but once you do, you're on your own unless you do something illegal or really dumb.

anyways, yes, there is no question Chris is delayed, he has always been very immature , granted his isolation and lack of stimulation did not help matters any, but that is just one of many points: he also was not bright in school by any means, he was learning impaired and slow, his parents often paid and bribed the school staff to praise him , give him credit where it was not due, and pass him through. hell, it took him, what? like almost 4 or 5 years to get that stupid associates degree?? even with the delay of being suspended for a year, it still would never take that long for most people.

As in, he signs power of attorney or whatever, they manage his tugboat, bills, debts, allow him some pocket money.
But they take him out for shopping trips, make sure he observes hygiene standards, behaves appropriately in public?

They may not be able to deny him access to the internet, but what about if he is just not allowed a smartphone, computer or any internet capable device?

When he needs to do real things he needs the internet for, perhaps a staff member supervises him, or is the one using the computer while he explains what he wants and inputs any passwords?

They can give him a dumb phone in case he gets lost and lock it to his handlers number, the homes number and emergency services.

Is this sort of treatment within Virginia law?

At the end of the day, this would be the best treatment and conditions of life for him, as it would keep him out of trouble and eventually possibly make him a semi productive member of society.

actually no, group home life sucks, so much restrictions to the point of infringing on your human and civil rights, also, group home are NOT free, clients tend to pay 75 to 80 percent of their income to live in them, at least thats how it was in Georgia, Vermont, and Tennessee. clients often are screwed as they have no money to by personal needs or wants. as far as subsidized rent places go, you are still responsible for your bills and living expenses, the rent being reduced helps a lot, but you are still n a pretty tight budget in those, but its no where near as bad as group home.

I think so , because as other people pointed out: he was probably put on meds (notice the sudden weight gain) and I know Im just repeating what others say, but maybe this is it. Maybe he had a psychiatrist evaluate him and decided that this is whats best for him, to be a tard on meds so he won't bother anyone. Also - (speaking from experience) some meds, if strong enough, just make you slow or sluggish. Maybe that's the life that they wanted for him, so he'll finally be harmless?

not always, if the person is technically capable of shopping or being independent for short time frames, they might wait in the car, or come pick them up at an agreed time while they take another-client to do something else, it varies depending on clients, case workers recommendations, level of needs, limits, behaviors, etc.
