@ToroidalBoat points out, Chris is
known to suffer from facial blindness. It's a real
medical condition which renders the person unable to remember faces.
It's not so much that they can't remember faces, it's just that they don't automatically recognize them. It's like looking at a string of random numbers -- if I showed you a set of 100 random 10-digit numbers you probably wouldn't recognize a duplicate, but if I showed you a number and had you memorize it, you could recognize it again if it came up -- but you'd have to be *trying* to recognize it.
Use your words. Are you implying the rape allegations are unfounded? Nobody is saying he pointed a shotgun at her and told her to squeal like a pig, instead it was statutory rape because her brain has turned to mush.
The required brain-mushiness in Virginia is pretty steep. For it to be rape despite Barb consenting, her brain would have to be such mush that one of these things would have to be untrue:
1) Barb knew she was fucking Chris.
2) Barb knew Chris was her son.
3) Barb knew it was illegal. (Basically, did she know the potential consequences)
4) Barb had the capacity to either vocalize or physically indicate lack of consent, and did not refuse.
If all four of these things were true, then it was not rape. Notably, Barb did not have to explicitly consent, she just had to be capable of refusing it when it happened. As long as Chris stopped whenever she did refuse consent. (For instance she says "No" one night, and Chris stops, but the next night she doesn't say "No" and goes through with it.).
I wonder why we have not received a letter yet? I mean there's enough weens out there that I guarantee you as soon as they seen he has returned to jail at least a dozen or so people have written letters to him. Let's say a week ago somebody sent a letter to him they should have received a letter back by now right? I mean you would think that after his stay in a mental hospital he would want to answer mail. So if we don't receive a letter by let's say the end of next week I think it's safe to concur that something is happening behind the scenes we are not aware of.
They can't really entirely put him in complete isolation and refuse to allow him to write or receive letters in jail (unless he is in some kind of disciplinary segregation and it is a punishment for penological purposes). They probably could do exactly that in the hospital.
It could be that he under medical orders, regardless of what facility he is in. That would explain why no letters were received after the hearing, even though Chris was still ostensibly at CVRJ. (Depending on whether you believe he was transferred and the status just wasn't updated for weeks, or if the transfer happened when VINE said it did.)
So he may be unable to write letters as a requirement of his care, it's just they felt that he didn't need to be held it the hospital anymore, and his care could continue at the Jail.
We'll probably find out soon if any letters come in the next week or two. Otherwise we probably won't hear from him until after the July hearing.
I hate to break it to you, but uh...most marriages in Afghanistan (and the Middle East/Islamic World) are between cousins/siblings.
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
Islamic scholars have generally interpreted this to include grandparents and great aunts/uncles. It's not strictly prohibited, but it's enforced most places.
First cousin marriages, on the other hand, are legal -- as they are in most societies. It's just far, far more common in Muslim countries (and the majority of marriages in places like rural Pakistan).
It doesn't happen because incest is a capital crime in Islam, unlike calling someone a Jew or a homo. It's just that cousins aren't considered immediate relatives:
This.
I've been putting some thought into this, he most likely isn't going to cop a rape charge this late in the game unless something is happening we're not aware of or I'm missing something the legal egal kiwi's have said, but a lot of the places he's wanted to go and was planning on going are well aware of who he is and what he done.
He probably is not looking at a rape charge, but if he is, we'll almost certainly know before August is over, or even by August 1st.
