What gun do you use for self defense then?
My EDC is a VP9 with ACRO P2 and X300U

Right on. A 20" or 18" makes for a great ranch rifle. Especially because you don't want to be putting $1 bullets into yotes or critters.
My setup is more of a “fighting rifle” than the clone or SPR stuff usually seen with a 20” barrel

I’m running a Criterion M16A1 profile barrel that has a 1/8 twist and M4 feedramps. Nothing super exciting about the rest of the build, but I’ve kept it somewhat lightweight at 9lbs 4oz loaded with 30 rounds. I’m running a Eotech 3-1 and a Aimpoint 6x magnifier. 50m zero with M193 and it’s pretty flat out to 300 yards. 400 yards requires a “hat” hold.

man, makes me feel like a luddite with my plain 733 sbr lol. for where i am and my preferred fighting methods, the short carbine works quite well for me out to 200 or so meters and much past that i would prefer not to engage. then again, i live at the point where suburbs transition to hills and grassland more or less.

i really think that someone's defensive weapon choice is dictated by their experience/training, logistics, and area of control (their house, neighborhood, their farm/ranch, their part of the forest or mountain, et c) and what distance they're most likely willing to engage at and what sort of hostiles might be expected. for a lot of people living in cities or suburbs, their AOC is their neighborhood pretty much and possibly something to carry around conveniently and work within vehicles without snagging or being too logistically burdensome with boutique parts/ammo.

Weird build but I can tell by the way you talk about it you actually shoot the thing and love it. So critique would be nothing more than lecturing the choir.

But I am very curious to why you didn't opt for and LPVO or MPVO with a stacked dot though.

Rifles are a cope. Pistols are better. foto_no_exif (1) (3).jpg

But I can't take anyone seriously if they are suggesting an unsuppressed 20" AR has greater utility than an 11.5" SBR with a can.

Those are the same system for two different purposes. I'm building a dedicated 20" AR for varmit hunting. Aim small miss small, squirrels are small targets. I've out grown my 16" bull barrel. Whether I suppress it or not is only for my ear comfort.

I would never use a 20" barrel for CQB. I have a different gun entirely for that.

Honestly your skills are gonna be more important than gear to a certain extent. Any reasonable barrel length is gonna be effective in the right hands.

I’m not running a 20” because I necessarily expect longer engagement distances. I get flatter shooting, more velocity, softer recoil, less noise and flash. The added length doesn’t really negatively affect my use case.

I have run those setups, but I’m not looking to engage to those distances where a scope with elevation and wind holds come into play. If you are looking to shoot past 400 regularly, then for sure get an optic that is up to the task.

Lol I'm agreeing with you. You don't need BUIS' if you have a quality red dot.

I mean unless you're regularly encountering IEDs or some shit.
There's so many quality enclosed red dots out there BUIS aren't needed. I used to carry a 407v2 and it would regularly get filled with body hair and sweat and dog hair. But even poorfags can get a holosun eps now which is solid enough to be good for carry.

The Glock 49 serves no purpose - one of the dumbest things since the P365 Fuse. As someone who owns multiple Glocks (34 & 19) I can safely say the company is just out of ideas at this point.
The purpose it serves is for the guys with G19s that want to have a particular weapon light on it. Generally, grip size is a bigger inhibiter to concealment than slide length. So a G49 can fit a bigger nicer light that would other wise stick out on the short 19 slide.

The Glock 34 is flush fit to the Surefire X300U so it's not more long than a govt frame 1911, the 17 and 19 lets it stick out so you have a "standoff" device making the slide not go out of battery in unironic CQB like a self-defense/LEO situation.

The advantage of a 17 with the 19s compact grip, the horror.

The true pointless gun is the g45, why the fuck do you want a fullsize grip zone if you've got a compact barrel? Lunacy.
