A gunsperg shitpost spawns a shitposted subreddit: r/forgottencalibers

But in all seriousness this could become a very interesting sub, once people start dumping their hordes of ammo-related images.

i've been messing with a CMMG .22 conversion for my AR and i think it's the coolest shit ever. i however can't help but to notice that it's fucking stinging my face when i shoot it. i'm buying a 50 round drum for it anyway but are they just like that?

while we're at it, what would you fine fellas recommend for a magnifier for a romeo5?

I'm drunk and feel in the proper mindset to share a tale of my recently deceased gunbuddy Jim. Feel free to ignore.
He worked demolitions in Vietnam. He told me he found success in using a .22lr revolver loaded with .22shorts to dispatch Vietcong sentries as it was whisper quiet. I don't know exactly how many he killed but it was a lot. I don't like seeing his revolver for sale. Raise a glass to Jim, he stacked more bodies and sent more lead downrange than many of us ever will.

Can someone please tell me SIG P220s are shit?

Best DA/SA .45 bar none, especially the older German manufactured ones. I own a Cougar 8045 and a CZ 97B. Those two are are great, but neither stacks up to my 220. (I also own a FEG .45 GKK pseudo-high power clone... thing, but frankly it's not even in the running, lol)

Most of what you do is already being documented passively. Practically everything leaves a footprint. Your purchases have been tracked since the dawn of time; your bank, paypal, whatever processor you use keeps and stores literally every transaction you make down to the penny. They even send them to you monthly as statements. Bank employees can just go in there and look and the feds *and* state can request those records at will, usually without you actually knowing.
Social security can take a look in there, as can other agencies. Whoever wants to scrutinize your bank will. There is a reason why people who make suspicious purchases get checked up on very quickly. If I go to Walmart and buy a ton of fertilizer and other shit associated with bomb making, that's documented the moment I make the purchase. I can go and spread out my purchases across different stores, and time, but much like the 'In Minecraft' defense, we live in the real world and they're going to notice that immediately too if anyone decides to take a look at your statements.

The government also has the capability to threaten you into producing bank statements and records, generally within an allotted timeframe.
The moment you swipe that Visa, you had a background check done, and there's now a giant fucking transaction right there on your statement for 399$ that's the equivalent of a black kid at a theater going "this nigga just bought a gun!". It'll have the time, date, exact amount, and the location will be logged too alongside purchase codes and other shit, both external to you and viewers and the bank itself.
This is basically what Edward Snowden said in his book Permanent Record. Big Brother probably isn't watching you at any given moment, because he has mountains of bigger shit to shovel. But he can have a dossier on you in no time if he wants to.

I've always wondered (I.E. for like 2 months) if a CMMG bolt would fit in the Magpul MOE grip bolt core

Anyone know? Obviously could just throw it in your bag or something but the whole 5.56 to .22 swap has my retard LARP brain going

Short answer: no, the CMMG bolt is much larger (it has a whole 5.56 shape on its front).
Long answer: Nooooooo, because you also need the special BCG, it's not just a bolt. (The entire action length of the .22 adapter is inside the BCG footprint)

Nope, pick is kinda wonkey but here is the whole drop in unit next to the magazine.

outdoorhub-22-ar-conversion-kits-myth-maxim-2015-01-13_03-20-23.jpg

The dedicated unit is shorter but still about as long as the magazine. (Dedicated unit lacks the 5.56 case shaped insert.

like the fellas here said, it's larger than your regular AR bolt due to that 5.56 case shaped protrusion for the .22 to fit in place. i've ended up using a cheap pistol case for the conversion and the 3 mags that came with the kit.

I am pleased to report that my plebian M5 runs flawlessly after venturing out into cold winds on Sunday. I struggled with the adjustable gas block and tuned it to where it cycles without issue. Here's my build with prices from the orders:

Aero M5 lower ($149.75 including tax&NICS)
Aero M5 upper ($138.07)
Aero .308 carbine buffer kit ($53.09)
Radian Raptor LT charging handle ($90.55)
Brownells .308 Nitride BCG ($149.99)
Ballistic Advantage 16" Government Profile Mid Length ($101.67)
Surefire Procomp Muzzle Break ($89)
Areo M5 LPK w/ FCG ($75.24)
Expo Arms Mid Length Gas Tube ($8.95)
Superlative Arms Bleed Off Adjustable Gas Block Clamp On ($89.99)
AimSports DPMS High 13.5" handguard ($54.59)
Trijicon Credo 2.5-10x56mm ($519.99)
Burris AR-PEPR 30mm mount ($88.36)
Magpul Fixed Carbine Stock & MOE Grip ($30 bought used)

For a grand total of $1,632.24

Now I'm looking into a BCM build so I can have a reason to buy a KAC handguard.

So for various reasons I may need to seriously accelerate the build schedule on at least 4 AR builds and I have a problem: barrel treatments to sate my barrel autism.

I used to know what I needed, which was Hard Blue, that Superior Barrels created and sold barrels treated with, but he stopped making things because apparently it was all to expensive. IIRC that was a gas nitrocarburizing process and the result was a layer so hard I could take a hardened steel file to it and not damage it at all, assuming you started with carbon steel barrel instead of stainless. Stainless actually lost corrosion resistance in the process for reasons to do with chemistry above my paygrade.

So I'm looking for a barrel treatment something like that, preferably one with similar hardness properties that is not a coating and is not a salt-bath process. Anyone have any ideas or experience with anything like that?

barrel treatment
i mean, you can go a pretty long way if you're willing to throw money at it. QPQ (under various tradenames) when done properly at the end of a manufacturing process with a quality alloy steel like CMV will likely outlast most practical use cases as well as several impractical ones. you could always slap some birdsong on there or DLC as a "sealant" for the treated steel as well. i've recommended H&M's black nitride plus before since i think they have a quality product and do quality work.

This will help a little bit with the gas.

Try the juliet4 as a magnifier but for the same money you could get an illuminated LPVO.

This is a winner. I use my CMMG conversion all the time and it basically eliminates gas in my face. Only issue is that the fouling and residue builds up in the charging handle so if you shoot it a lot you'll need to pry it out with a pocket knife or something.
