Regarding those Black Rain rifles, I'm always surprised when a company produces a product that simply will not run, clean, with factory ammo, loaded to normal specs. I could understand if they had some kind of extra heavy 70-75 grain pills and it was under-gassed or something but, right out of the box and it won't run? No excuse.

Places like that I figure aren't keeping the doors open with civilian consumer bux, and probably live mostly off local/state-level .gov contracts.

Speaking of uppers that won't run right, I purchased a PSA target .223 Wylde upper and was dissapointed to see it not running the heavy 69 grain BTHP .223 factory loads. Now my understanding is when a rifle is under-gassed if the gas block is NOT causing the issue by being installed incorrectly, the gas port needs to be opened, the problem is this is a match grade barrel. I have in the past drilled gas ports larger and had success adding more "punch" to the heavy pills I was lobbing down range. I do not want to fuck with a match grade stainless bore by drilling into it, I went over to the buffer and opened it up, removed %60 of the weight inside and replaced it with a an Aluminum dowel I cut to the same size. I've yet to take this to the range but, I'm hoping that solves this, instead of having to redrill the gas port oversized.

a rifle that is under-gassed will experience weak ejection, failure to lock on the bolt release when fired, inconsistent ejection pattern, failure to eject, and often will have difficulty with lightly loaded ammunition (40gr puff loads). gas ports are a specific size based on the distance between the gas port and the muzzle, and distance from the gas port to the bore so as to let the proper amount of gas to enter the gas system to pressurize it for the correct length of time (dwell time) before allowing safe, timely unlocking with enough pressure to drive the buffer spring.

one thing i've seen is gas block alignment being a bit off, or a burr or a swarf or flash somehow causing an obstruction - especially if it's not somewhere obvious like inside the gas block itself after it was drilled, or inside the barrel something is obstructing like a bit of chrome plating, but i don't think that's the case as you described.

generally, if you want to fire heavier than average loads (69gr bullets) at a typical velocity for those loads (example 2800 f/s from an 18" match SST barrel), then the gas port for a rifle length gas system would be around 0.0815". if you have an 18" barrel (which is common for 69gr match rifles, but other lengths are out there), and you have a mid-length gas system which i've seen, then you'll want something like 0.0755" up to around 0.0785".

I can definitely see an old G41 still kicking around somewhere in Europe, perhaps in a less than legal collection at some point, hence why it was illegally ditched with some other weapons which exhibited similar damage (maybe they were in a flood?).

G41s are completely legal to own where Backyard Ballistics is from (Italy). He kinda fucked up the pricing (a good W model is not 5k euros, it's more 10-12k). For sure you probably have to register it in some way: but probably that one comes from some old Partisan/Gladio cache for civil war purposes that took rain for a bit too much time.

His videos are nice if basic, but I honestly have virulent reaction to all games/VPNs/sperg endorsements by now. Do it for the glory or don't do it all all.

I've seen only once a M1941 Johnson here outside of a museum, so I don't have first hand experience. But I agree that a grunt rifle needs to be as sturdy as possible. I stand by my opinion that the SVTs are essentially a failed project (that the Soviets kept building because they had nothing better at the time, hell, they even tried their hand with the Automatic version, the AVT, that shot itself to death in like 200 rounds). The sniper version was discontinued fairly quickly and the result of wartime experience was shelving it as fast as they could and get the SKS up to speed. My SKS is barely ten years older than my SVT and works like clockwork.

They're beautiful rifles and incredibly aesthetic, but they're bad soviet guns in the sense they require somewhat careful maintenance ( and we're working with Soviet conscripts here) and they're so fucking finicky. Magazines aren't interchangeable between factories and then you need to be lucky to find the ones that "work fine" or fix them to avoid endless feeding issues. Switching ammo can cause feeding issues too. The original stock was weak (problem partially solved when they switched to the theoretically stronger AVT40 stock for all rifles). The bedding is bad (check some videos, the rifle "wobbles" around a lot when shot). I've own several and the one I got now is a very well-kept bulgarian refurb with matching serials, and it's still somewhat unreliable. Chumak himself, the best authority on Tokarev rifles, admits that such a beautiful rifles was in the end a failure and in his comparisons with the Garands admits the M1 is superior. When a Russian in a russian-language work candidly admits so.....

"Minor" rifles such as the swedish m/42 are also excellent, but they don't have the "fought in WW2" aura.

With a few more years to cook the SVT-40 would have been great but the SKS and 7.62x39 were right around the corner.

Lastly, PSA has teased, this thing. While it is obviously an Ayy arr fideen I do not know what the inspiration for it is, closest I can fine is a LaFrance M16K but that isn't a complete match (though they do seem to be implying that based on the phonetics of their post "M16 kay". The hunk of plastic on the buffer tube is also not a stock, but a prototype brace.

So after doing a quick internet search of their overall reputation & reliability, first I gotta say that BRO stans are every bit as cringe & lulzy as the rifles & company itself.

Hehe yeah some of the cringe AR makers talk a big game but end up making worse rifles than Anderson parks kits.

If your PSA feeds 55-77 grain reliably and goes bang every time you pull the trigger you're A OK for 99% of work your 16 inch or 20 inch AR will ever need to do.

I know this isn't about guns, but i have narrowed down some quality options for a new knife that i want and it isnt crappy stainless steel, hollow pommel with malfuctioning compasses crap.

1. Glock 78 or 81, second best price overall in Brazil, although its very easy to fake, i'm worried i might pay for a chink copy
2. Ontario Survival knife, smallish kabar look alike with leather scabbard, looks neat and has a sharpening stone although its small, cheapest foreign knife
3. Kabar 1219, the usmc version without the serrated bottom edge is unobtanium and 50% over the price of it, there's also the smaller variants for the same price as the ontario usaf one
4. Imbel IA2 bayonet knife or it's larger AMZ jungle knife, both are made for bayonet use for our polymer fal copy, there's no info about it other than its full tang and made with 1070 carbon steel, its the cheapest overall here in local currency.

I like my 2 Kabars, always had them in my kit. That glock blade does look kinda of nice.

That's what I'm experiencing, weak ejection, failure to feed. I'm trying to avoid re drilling the port in a match grade stainless barrel. I re-drilled an SBR .300 BLK to .109" I think it was? It would not cycle subs and after I redrilled it an installed an adjustable gas block it worked beautifully. I do own a borescope I use for work unrelated to gunsmithing. I think I'll take a look in the bore for issues.

Starship Troopers did not use the Mini-14 muzzelite kit, the specifically had their own rifles for that film. I actually owned a muzzllite for a ruger 10/22, when I was younger and retarded I thought the 10/22 tacticool stuff was really cool. The trigger was shit because of the long linkage and one retarded detective thought it was some kind of illegal SBR, so I got rid of it, I forget wtf I did with it exactly. The 10/22 eventually got installed in a proper stock geared towards target shooting.​

Those chintzy hunks of creaky shit have the worst triggers. Movie props are really their only practical utility.

They 100% used Muzzelite bullpup kits as a basis for making the Morita rifle body chassis. They are not stock, unmodified MZ14s, they put substantial work into modifying them, but it's very easy to see what the rear half is.
A few of the shells from the movies went up on prop collector auction houses some time back, so if you could find one of those you could even get your own, perhaps even pairing it with a transferable Ruger AC-556 and SBS'd Ithaca M37.

You look at the regular MZ14 kit, and then the Morita, and you notice that the inexplicable nub in the middle of the carry handle is the stump that was left over from the front end of the original MZ14's carry handle, that's why it's there. They most likely figured that'd be just another piece of detail which makes the prop and its silhouette more distinct and recognizable.

Accidentallied into an 8 point. I got pneumonia, so missed rifle season. No hesitation, big bonus for marriage in spring. A mom and her son drove by while I was hauling him up, lungs on fire. The kid wanted the antlers, mom wanted some roast for Thanksgiving. I've got the rack off, gonna wrap the roast for her and rack and bring it by tomorrow. While dressing him, found a pus pocket, rendering his upper left flank completely bad. Some faggot, probably last season judging by scar tissue, took a potshot at him with buckshot from a distance (judging by spread) not even close enough to penetrate anything but meat. Like to meet that motherfucker, people like that deserve a long drop with a sudden stop. Anyway, got him all dressed with wife. got enough meat for winter. Don't feel right keeping his rack since I didn't hunt him, just put him down.

I'm a fan of the 18 inch barrels for both the AR-15 an the AR-10 (minus the .300 BLK, but that's a very niche rifle and caliber).

This is a good rifle and I hope you got a sick deal on it. Train with it regularly, maintain it well, and it'll serve you as a good rifle for a long time.

I wish toggle locks got more development but I also get why not, they're pricy when a browning action does the same cheaper. Still glad a few 45's are in production
