I vehemently disagree that the ACOG is antiquated and a waste of money. They have a lot of benefits that other optics don't offer, such as never needing batteries (unless you get the LED model) and their rugged construction. There was a Marine during the GWOT who took a 7.62x39mm round to his ACOG, blasting a sizable hole in the side, and it didn't even lose zero. He was able to stay in the fight and didn't even realize his optic had been shot until they had returned to base and he went to clean his rifle, which is when he saw the hole and realized what had happened. That optic was sent back to Trijicon who sent him a replacement and put the damaged optic in their Hall of Fame. I think they're a great option for anyone who wants a simple, rugged optic for a fighting carbine or PCC and doesn't want a red dot.
the only thing I dislike about the ACOG is the fibre optic which gets far too bright to shoot at range, but also the battery version exists so this is a non-issue. ACOG's are still probably the king of fixed mag. Prism optics.

If they only made a 1x version of the ACOG.

I guess that is a red dot in a nutshell but they have some sort of method for shooting at close quarters with an ACOG.

And I learned while looking into ACOGs, that there are different designs for the same 4x32 which either suits the M4A1 or the M16A4.

Trijicon makes a wide variety of ACOG models, from the 1.5x compact model all the way up to the 6x DMR/GPMG model. And every model comes with a wide variety of reticles for 5.56x45mm, .300 Blk, 7.62x39mm, and 7.62x51mm. I believe the 1.5x and 2x compact ACOGs even have a more generic cross hair style reticle that have no BDC hashmarks better suited for close quarters shooting with a subgun or PCC, since those types of weapons aren't typically used for engaging targets at longer ranges, so compensating for bullet drop isn't a concern.

I've actually been considering getting either a 3.5x or 4x ACOG for my MWS308 and putting it on a quick change mount that will retain zero when removed and replaced so that I can swap the Aimpoint Comp M4 for it when I want magnification. I do have a second upper for it that has an Elcan Spectre TR scope that I plan on building up as a DMR with a 20" barrel for when I really want longer range, but I wouldn't mind being able to have magnification on the primary upper without the extra weight of a magnifier and having bullet drop compensation.

piece of tape is used to cover parts of the fiber optic.

RX series (RX-01, et c), SRS, and the dual illumination RMR are functionally an ACOG (sort of) as an unmagnified red-dot. the whole "advanced combat optical gunsight" sort of implies some level of magnification with a reticle that allows ranging and acquisition/PID with minimal adjustment for the shooter.

Well either in a moment of madness or brilliance I ordered 300 rounds of 40 S&W. 150 is 165 aluminum case Blazer, the other 150 is brass case 180 grain Blazer. It was cheap enough so I bought it lol. I'm basically getting all the ammo and accessories before I get my sd40 2.0. Probably going to get one extra 14 round factory mag since the gun only comes with one of those, and a holster.

They've been on sale for months on end here to the point where shops can't get rid of their shit in 9x19, .40, or .45, I think their reputation took a major hit after the coof when everyone's ammo was rushed out the factory. I've got no opinions but I've heard they were occasionally crap.
praying for u rn

It's all range food anyway, if it jams so be it, it's cheap fodder to start my 40 horde. But thank you for the prayer lol.

-A US Unit or organization has in at least testing quanitities adopted the Sig LMG-762 (which is the 7.62 variant of the LMG-6.8 which the Army adopted as the XM250), AFTER the acceptance of the XM250
-The Jews in the zionist entity has also received the LMG-762 AND The MMG-338 in at least testing quantities
Probably because someone realized the 6.8x51 is DoA and that they have access to MILLIONS of rounds of 7.62 NATO..... Hmmm 🤔

They've used that shit since the beginning, even in their converted K98k of which they had literal dumpsters full of. I just don't see them going for 6.8, frugality aside, mainly because their opponents are unarmored more often than not and that's supposed to be its selling point.

The talk was about the US...

I thought the XM250 was the one thing that made sense in that program, and even that's really just a sidestep from 7.62, not really that different.

The whole 6.8 cartridge and NGSW program should die already. Just adopt the MCX in 5.56 as the next M5 carbine and the SIG LMG to replace BOTH the minimi and 240B and call it a day.

i think 6.8x51 really has some good qualities in a LMG. but ymmv

I went squirrel shooting this cold and foggy fall morning. this is essentially my backyard. My family has been on this property since the 1790s. My ancestors and other settlers were led by Daniel Boone himself across the gap into Kentucky (it was still Virginia then though) were we have been ever since. I assume they bought this land from boone (who was a surveyor) or was given to them as some land grant for military service or similar.

as for the hunt, I did well enough:

Alright farmers I once again am asking for your gun wisdom. My rifle got delivered to my local FFL and I’ll pick it up this weekend, here is the CR6940 from google images for reference:
CR6940.JPG
I paid 1500 buckaroos for this and it’s going to be my only rifle ever. I’ve been thinking about attachment checklist I’ll be buying for the next year and the priority in which I’ll need to add them.

Until I get the rifle in my hands and get a solid feel I’m just going off assumptive appearance. I will either want a vertical foregrip I can use and abuse as a monopod on any surface, or an angled foregrip to get a tighter hand wrap around the handguard.

The AR pistol grip looks like I’m not going to enjoy it just looking at the finger catches and thumb indentation. If it feels as bad as it looks I’ll need to change it out first.

I thought I might change out the stock but honestly it’s kind of growing on me, I through I would hate the sling mount but now I’m seeing the versatility of both a bottom of the stock swivel as well as a sling loop through the center. I might keep the factory stock around and replace it with a Magpul UBR GEN2 when it reaches end of life.

Everything else of the gun is perfect in my eyes, I’m not going to mess with internals since it’s built to be precision shooting MOA. The more money I can save on not gucci-ing it out, the better quality sights I can afford in half a year’s time.

Regarding sights, I’m leaning heavily towards something like a trijicon acog to start and shifting into a vcog if I ever actually need that variable magnification. I don’t want to run a holographic magnifier combo since that adds weight.

Is this a good shopping list? I’m going to spend a few months just using irons since I’ve blown a shit ton of money the past month reaching up to $3,000-$4,000. What should I keep an eye out for to buy when it’s on sale?

Edit: what sling type should I buy? A single or a double point? I was thinking a vickers sling.

if it jams so be it
If it's too dogshit then just do what I and some friends do here with a local Argentine brand called Waffen (yes it's a real thing) and pop the projectiles out and reload them yourself consistently (or do Juan's recargas gauchas handloads), with how retardedly expensive ammo is here and how hard it is to get smokeless it's super worth it, but you're American so ymmv.

I thought i'd want a vert grip too until i tried one but ended up settling on wearing a glove on my left. vert just didn't feel right. the stock i settled on was a SOPMOD stock from B5. I had a Stiener prismatic on it for a while. Upper was a LMT mono, which was very high quality. ended up selling it all because i figured out i just prefer more traditional wood and blue steel.
LMT.JPG

disregard the shitty magpul MOE stock. when this pic was taken the SOPMOD had not arrived yet.

@Romulus augustulus A b5 would be my second pick since that’s actually combat proven, the UBR looks all fancy and new and I’m sexually attracted to it. A b5 would be better since I could have a cheek weld on the adjustable portion of the stock instead of the static buffer tube portion.

What’s going to be better for multifaceted use? A Steiner or an Acog or Vortex? I’ll be using this rifle for hunting next season just to get some field training with it outside of the range. What kind of reticle did your Steiner use? Best case scenario I can find something like range finder reticle to line up a target and gauge the distance up to 600 yards.

I don't think they make the Steiner anymore, i got it on a blowout sale. Acog is tried and true. Never had a vortex scope but i use their binoculars all the time and have not complaints.

I seem to remember that Burris picked up the design of the stiener but i have not had good experience with burris scopes.

Definitely user preference. My vert grip is closer to the magwell just because I'm used to it. Don't plan for monopod use, but accepting the ability is a good mindset.
I don't have enough experience with AFGs but as far as gripping handguards, just buy some solid gloves. I recommend some used FROG gloves, those things are sweet and everywhere, scored a decent pair for ~$20.

Valid observation. The A2 grip profile is hit or miss(it's way too thin for me), popular replacement is the Magpul K2 since on top of being cheap it lets you choke up into that beavertail.

Standard stock is okay. No complaints. You can get rid of the wobble by putting a strip of female-end velcro along the top or side of the buffer tube(as long as it isn't too tight).

Not much to change, though popular opinion is that GI triggers are perfectly adequate.
acog to start
"to start" is a bit of a stretch for spending that amount of cash. It's a great optic, 4x covers all of your bases.
shifting into a vcog if I ever actually need that variable magnification
If it's your forever gun I'd recommend against a variable optic. On a second DMR-ish upper it would be great but stick with that fixed magnification for consistency's sake.
what sling type should I buy? A single or a double point? I was thinking a vickers sling.
Buy whatever, it's just for retention. I tried the over-shoulder whatever technique that the 2-gunners use and I found it difficult to change mags while shouldered. Honestly go the cheap route and get the basic bitch GI strap to start until you've got practice in, form your own opinions based on your perceived needs.

One guys experience. I've shot ~1000 rounds of Blazer brass 124 gr 9mm in the last year with no issues I can remember. Seems to be generally well regarded online, only some issues with people shooting the aluminum stuff in PCCs. They're among the cheaper brands that aren't turkshit, rebranded turkshit, or remans, but I think that's due to volume more than poor quality.
