...I'd fundamentally disagree with the conclusion of the gaming PC comparison from the chart, don't buy a PC or an AR15 where you know, or will likely need to, swap parts as that defeats the purpose of spending as little as possible and still getting a good gun. ...
See, I appreciate the input but I'm gonna soft disagree wit you here.
I just built 4 ARs, and the fun part is tweaking the little options until you get your perfect build.

As a non-gun person I'm curious what you guys think about the Ruger LCP II. It's lightweight and the ammo is relatively cheap. I don't know much about guns so can someone with more experience give me their opinion on it?
For $100 less, you can get a mark 3/4; which has the same carry capacity in a more stylish and accurate luger design.
If you want a compact carry, I'd go for the Security 9, or at least a 380.
However, I've never bought a bad gun from Ruger. Ruger is the cheap but high quality gun white people think Glocks are and black people think HiPoint is.

Hey there kiwibros it's getting hot, are you beach body ready? New project I'm working on. With regards to the Ruger LCP 2 talk just nab a glock 43x for 200 bucks more and run shield mags, kino combo.

I'm only glad I bought a Jennings J-22 as my first gun because I somehow managed to trade up to an actual handgun, it still had value in the age before the subcompact 9x19 boom.
Plus that old lady at the liquor store still got scared enough to give up all the cash in the register?

I keed I keed.

I'm actually in the process of another AR build, which will probably be the tenth I've done. My earlier ones were all over the place - M4 clone, weird space gun DMR with Hera furniture, etc.

Now I have a feeling for what I like and manufacturers I prefer and they all end up looking mostly the same - skinny MLOK handguards, fairly vertical pistol grips (the Magpul K2XL is rad), simple stocks that incorporate some storage and flat-face triggers. Optics, barrel lengths and accessories vary, but I think I've found a "type". As for why I keep making kinda the same gun over and over, I just like building them.

At first I tried a variety of guns and optics, but as time goes on I just want a super simple rifle. I have 4 of the same optic with one 5x magnifier that I share between builds. 13.9” medium profile barrels with pinned flash hiders that can host a can. KE arms lowers. Schmid coated milspec triggers. Simple 2 point slings. Lights with click tail caps. Small section of pic rail to run a QD bipod if needed.

Way back in the70s-80s a guy was working on a pistol called the Piranha with that same basic form factor. They only made about 20 prototypes, most in common handgun rounds, but a couple were chambered in 9mm and .45 Winchester magnum rounds originally developed for the Wildey pistols. He never could get any investors and the whole thing just never got off the ground.
For what it's worth, 9mm WM flings a 115 grain bullet at about 1600 fps and .45 WM does about the same velocity with a 230 grain, so they're nothing to sneeze at.
I actually found a pdf of an old magazine issue talking about it. It doesn't mention the magnum versions, IIRC I read that in an old Gun Digest or some other publication.
I would do unspeakable things to get one of those in .45WM. I'd probably have to do more unspeakable things to be able to afford to shoot it, but that's neither here nor there.

Oh, and the current Model 70 is made the exact same way the Pre-64 model 70s were. no more push feed. there is no more a classic America hunting rifle than a model 70 in .30-06 or .270 WCF besides the Winchester 94 in 30-30.
Holy fuck, I didn't know that! That Model 70 Safari Express could be an excellent backup to my CZ 550 .375 H&H.
Please don't buy a tiny pocket pistol as your first gun.
They typically are not fun to shoot.
Look for something about the SIZE of a glork 19 or 48.
Thread bros, I am not a fan of sub/micro-compact pistols. For sure are they easy to carry concealed but I think they ask for too many other concessions that I dislike. If any of you want some excellent training on that platform I highly recommend attending one of Mike Pannone's concealment pistol classes. I met and befriended him last year at a training course in TX and he's exactly what he advertises himself to me.

I don't think it's any sort of a requirement to get training before transitioning to a new pistol type. That stated, you'd be surprised what you can learn from experienced, impartial third parties.
1500 rounds of CCI AR Tactical
Anyone tried these in a pistol? I've used their Velocitor and Mini-Mag stuff a bunch and I like those.

I haven't built any rifles like what you mean but out of the 8 ARs I own, I only bought 2 of them complete. I'm a fan of mixing complete uppers and complete lowers. In my experience, that can typically save someone a few dollars over a complete build.
Schmid coated milspec triggers.
Are these similar to the ALG ACT triggers? I'm a fan of those. I always use the purple hammer springs. I like the BCM PNT triggers for mil-spec types, also.

Speaking of AR triggers, what do you all like for aftermarket stuff? For cassette-type triggers I'm a big fan of TriggerTech stuff. For traditional types my favorite so far is the Geissele SSP.

they are functionally the same as a mini mag, but have a different bullet shape optimized for ruger 10/22, marlin 60, colt M261, and mossberg 715 chambers and inserts. out of a pistol there isn't really a difference but you might encounter failure to feed depending on the pistol's chamber profile.

i've had a lot of good experience with timney and CMC drop-in triggers. the geissele super duty is also a good trigger for a service rifle, but the complete rifle with it is overpriced imho.

edit: seems like CDNN is blowing out some AR's at rock bottom prices. at $300 plus tax/transfer this is still quite the deal even if you strip it down and rebuild: https://www.cdnnsports.com/radical-firearms-socom-ar15-5-56-rpr-rail-system-radrf00028.html

I’ve had nothing but problems with cassette triggers, especially when suppressed.
i stick with geissele or timney's non adjustable triggers for drop-ins on suppressed weapons as otherwise they tend to get dirty very quickly. SD-C and impact series if you're curious, and i've used these across both 5.56 NATO, 9mm, and .300 AAC weapons with varying suppressors over the years.

In the experience of you both, does it matter if one uses DI or external piston systems? Do the frequency of maintenance and cleaning schedules make any notable differences?

I'm curious if this is a "when" and not "if" problem because I have cassette triggers in the two rifles I run primarily suppressed.

I have a timney drop in with a Wolf A1 aka a T91 upper which is piston and never had any issues with fouling getting back in the receiver area.

Doesn’t matter if you’re running a can it will get dirty fast with either. Plus they are harder to clean.

Honestly a regular milspec trigger is already a really good trigger, and beyond that you hit diminishing returns very quickly. The LaRue MBT is almost indistinguishable from Geissele in terms of performance and they used to be 1/3 the price.

Saw this PK posted by the owner of SAG USA ages back, had to go looking for it again.
There's something about the looks of a PK that make me happy.

I wonder how much the accuracy is affected by being on the cover.
But then again its a PK, and a gun not intended for accurate single shots, the odd 10 different PKMs ive handled/fired all had a "wobbly" barrels due to how the quick change latch works.
Like, there is a little give, no rattling.
Fired few machine guns, pkm and kvkk, never got a chance to fingerfuck MG3 tho.
KVKK didnt have that because its a fixed barrel machine gun that fires 1000 rounds per minute of 7.62x39 AND IS IN ALL OTHER REGARDS SHIT!
Jams on every third shot when using woodtip blank ammunition that has gotten "moist" by being exposed to air after a rain, takes two days for the issues to come.

Fuckit im posting this im getting ptsd from the piece of shit.

In the 60s finland saw it necessary to arm reservists with incredibly bad light machine gun. KVKK 62 won the competition overwhelmingly, and it is possibly the worst and shitties fully automatic gun ever produced in known history. The weapons secret hides in its ugliness, which many enemies are horrified by.

Kevyesti Vittumainen KokeKivääri means "lightly fucking annoying machinegun"
properties: effective range 30 meters
theoretical rate of fire 8000
rate of fire compensated for malfunctions 0.5 rounds per minute
left hand phobic sights
fucking annoying pistol grip
uses powerless cartridge, which you can shoot someone in the stomach from 3 meters and theyl live
belts now avaible in all horrific colors of the 70s

last doodle on the right says essentially this
How to operate when you meet a KVKK62
Angle grind the shit out of it while crouched
Shove the pieces into a swamp

If you cant tell, its a parody from a handbook called "handmans warbook".
However, many of the parodies are just "slightly" overblown feelings about stuff.
Only good thing i can say about it is its accuracy compared to PKM.

Mad jealous of you getting to shoot a PKM. I'd love to fire one, even if it is shitty, just for the fun of it.
Plenty of cool guns I wish I'd get a chance to shoot, :sigh:
Extremely interesting info tho, thank you!
