Interesting video I found.
"Two documents that prove the P320 is unsafe"
The video is a simple cross-reference between the FBI BRF investigation and a poorly redacted document from the MHS pistol competitions that sig sauer submitted.

Spoiler: spoilered for length

Exhibit A: Page 29/30 of the MHS Pistol Evaluations. This is The FBI investigation we are all familiar with.



the Above details that, out of a total of 50 attempts there were a total of 15 instances (or 30% of all attempts) where the striker made contact with the primer. out of those 15 instances, 9 of them fired the primed case.

Below wasn't featured in the video, but I think its important to show. Page 32 of the report:

if you believe these documents, then it is possible to defeat the striker safety on a P320 with forces common to law enforcement, as shown by the tests, and the conclusion reached by the FBI.

Exhibit B: MHS Pistol Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)

The above is a heavily redacted document found in the public domain, obtained from, according to the video, "Derek, from practical shooting insights, sourced as evidence in a lawsuit."

The catch here, is that this document is not very well redacted. In fact, it is stupidly easy to un-redact this document using basic PDF editing tools.
I would know, because below is my attempt at unredacting this.

Literally just remove the top layer. its that easy.

since the document itself is formatted fairly obtusely, the video provided a more readable version of the relevant information from the document. Again, this is all sourced from a document submitted by sig sauer for the MHS trials.

I would like to highlight items 1 and 2.
- Pistol accidentally/unintentionally discharges (from impacts to weapon or mechanical failures with the striker)- sig believes that this is improbable to happen due to the addition of the striker saftety. without the striker safety, this is likely to occur within the life of the item.

So, Sig Believes that, without the introduction of the striker safety, It is likely for the P320 to go off from impacts/vibrations within its lifetime.
According to the FBI report, It is possible to defeat the striker safety with regular forces expected from law enforcement use.

Do you see the problem?

TL;DR;
-Sig Sauer thinks unintentional discharges CAN happen within the lifetime of the gun.
-Sig Sauer says this is mitigated by the striker safety.
-the FBI says you can render the striker safety ineffective due to common forces expected from LE use.
It's really not looking good for siggers...

That's interesting, it looks like a Seecamp 1911 conversion (Seecamp was a pre-war gunsmith who served on the Eastern Front in WW2, and when he moved to the US he experimented with converting 1911s to DA/SA out of fondness for the P38 ). Of course, since these were all pre-series 80, the safest way to carry them was cocked and locked, kind of defeating the point.

That gun looks like it could have been a tricked out Seecamp, but it seems to be missing the new sideplate on the right side that protects the new lockwork. It could just be the low resolution.

It's a Pachmyr modular pistol built by a guy called Paul Leibenberg, but the guy who came up with the pivoting trigger (pretty sure it's still single action) was a guy called George Huening for Bianchi cup shooting.

To be entirely fair this entire debacle has me looking at every other Sigger product with a jaundiced eye. Got myself a MCX a while back - imagine paying 2600 dollars for a mid AR15 alternative with a charging handle that completely sucks ass. Literally I'd take a standard M4A1 surplus charging handle over that shit. Not to mention that on the MCX line the finish is terrible and the monkeys at SIG make sure to Rocksett their fucking shitty flash hider so (((Ron Cohen))) could make more shekels on cans. It got to the point where people literally destroyed their barrels trying to get that shit off. Decided to sell that garbage before I figured out what the meaning of "SIG abandonware" really meant. Buy a SCAR or APC for that price instead pls smh.

I am really interested in hearing him justify/expand on this position because its quite open ended. Is he implying that a trigger dingus (only just learned today what the technical term for it is) safety would have prevented these guns going off? Is he implying that because there was no trigger safety/external safety that the design of the gun lead it down the path to an eventual critical design failure?

The first is an aggravatingly Reddit-tier position that's probably technically correct but not what the actual issue around the P320 is. The FBI report and the guntuber soyjacking demonstrated that its not some retard getting his keys or t-shirt caught in his holster, its that minimal pressure on the slide and trigger causes the striker to just do whatever it wants to do. But also yeah um ackshully you don't know how every accident involving the P320 went down sweetie so its pointless to make any claims.

The second position I cant really argue about because I am a retard on the internet and this requires more nuance and knowledge about gun design than I can command.

It seems like he is sorta implying both.

With how the P320 is designed a trigger safety would be as useless as chopping your cock off and calling yourself a woman.

The striker is always locked back so a working trigger safety would have to block sear engagement which is just going to be fucking impossible without redesigning the FCU from the ground up.

Your gun'll always have irons. You might not have remembered to change the battery in your Red dot, or you might have dropped it and cracked it, etc....

It's important to understand the basics of gunmanship. If your ass is on the line and the only thing in reach has irons, you don't wanna fiddle fart with trying to figure them out.

Sort of like a motorcycle. You COULD jump right on one. But you'd be a lot better served using it if you've ridden a regular bike before.

You can teach a new shooter faster with a red dot than irons in my experience

I think new shooters can shoot red dots more effectively than irons, which means they can focus more on learning the other fundamentals like trigger control & whatnot.
But at some point they should learn how to shoot irons effectively because they still have their uses, especially if they want a gun for self-defense reasons.

Yeah, you need to know irons. But that in no way precludes getting and training with a red dot right off the bat.

A dot also gives you way better feedback in dry firing drills. You see the dot shake with recoil anticipation. You also get better reps in presentation and index because if you don't do it right the dot won't appear.

A red dot will not prevent you from shooting low and to the left. Training out that bad habit is the exact same with a red dot as it is with irons.
