I don't mean to judge a book by it's cover, but, if you put him in a lineup and asked "Spot the violent guy who takes metal too seriously", it'd be hard to make it any easier.

Do you know how to piss off a music elitist of any kind?

Don't argue about it. Just actually enjoy music.

As much as most black metal is utter shit, this is actually a really good song.

I have no idea what it means. Probably something horrible. But its haunting, brooding atmosphere is actually very listenable.

Yeah that dark atmosphere of the Swedish prison system that allowed him the ability to make said song/album.

Must have been really hard on poor Varg.

Black Metal is a special case, because since the Second Wave ideology became just as important, or even more important, than the music itself. I think the scene is now much less ideological than it used to be, mainly because of the comercialization of the genre.
I sometimes get classified as a metal "elitist" simply because I almost exclusively listen to stuff from the late 70s to the early/mid 90s. If that preference makes me an elitist, well, then so be it.
PS. There are actually some new bands which sound and dress like they came right out of the 80s. Kinda funny if you think about it.

Wearing an N.W.A. t-shirt at your concert makes your metal even more black:

What's funny is that Mutiilation is one of the less accessible BM bands and that means that its fans can be horrendous, elitist twats. This ancient website was made by a group of people who trolled Soulseek's BM chat. Listening to Mutiilation was almost obligatory to enter their oh-so-cool circlejerk: http://www.angelfire.com/folk/kvltovdaath/index.html

In other news, I'm friends on FB with a girl who bangs Willy.

That site looks like an elaborate troll, but the fact that it's real makes it even more hilarious. It's obvious that they took shit way too seriously.

Black metal is all about taking shit way too seriously.

It's hard to beat being a guy who calls himself Dead, and then commits suicide to be actually dead, and then your bandmates take photos of your suicide and your next album is a bootleg with the dead Dead guy's shotgun mouthwash photo as the cover.

That's hardcore. Still sounds like someone belt-sanding a live peacock though.
