That sounds more like a Star Trek game, but Prime does have a bit of the Trek genome due to the scanner incorporated into Samus's helmet in the Prime games, so that can work.

The funny thing is that Metroid Prime is a better Star Trek game than all the Star Trek games combined, making you explore new environments and scan them while fighting off hostile wildlife.
My idea is definitely more on the Star Trek side with the "explore strange new worlds" theme, especially with the scan visor acting like a tricorder.

However that is what made Prime games stand out to me is that while you could just run and gun through the game, you had the choice to take your time and scan everything with the scan visor, which tells you the lore and backstory for the game. I still remember after almost 20 years the scan you can do to Chykka's corpse in Prime 2 where you get the following:

"Bioscan complete.
Target Chykka has been terminated.
Lifesigns are at flatline.
No regenerative ability in effect. No evidence of symbiotic corpse possession. Resurrection does not appear likely."

I liked that you could scan the dead boss and make sure that it wasn't going to revive again.

To expand upon my rough idea for a Prime 4, the overall plot is that the Federation detects unusual readings coming from multiple planets in an unexplored star sector and sends in some space marines, but lost contact and are presumed KIA (similar to Prime 2). The Federation then hires Samus to primarily investigate and collect data on these planets and, as a secondary objective, find out what happened to the space marines (also similar to Prime 2, but I liked exploring the space marine bases and collecting their mission logs at the start of Prime 2)

You would still have the usual hall marks of a Metroid game (new weapons and armor, Space Pirates doing SCIENCE and dying horribly, etc), but each planet would have something unique to that planet.

For example, on one planet you would find a Chozo armory where Samus collects a bunch of new weapons and armor and is able to access a Chozo database containing prototype weapons and armor that you could download to sell to the Federation or to the highest bidder. On another planet you discover a Space Pirate science base/port and Samus proceeds to enact Total Space Pirate Death on everything.

These are just some things I thought up off the top of my head and I am sure someone else could do better or flesh them out better.

Just finished Dread, and I'm wondering why the fucked they wasted an opportunity to make an easy sequel plot. Like Samuel Hayden locking the DOOM guy in DOOM 2016, Ravenbeak could have chocked out Samus leading into a credits scene to use her in his plot. Things in the sequel might get a little Resident Evil-y... but the series' future plot already jumped the shark with Other M so any dumb bullshit can fly now. In terms of lore I only really hold the S(NES)/GB games and the Prime Trilogy (including 4 if it's good) as canon.
For example, on one planet you would find a Chozo armory where Samus collects a bunch of new weapons and armor and is able to access a Chozo database containing prototype weapons and armor that you could download to sell to the Federation or to the highest bidder. I've always desired to see the prototype bounty mode that was supposed to be in Prime 3 (I think). Prime 4 could have completely unrelated side objectives to the mission that occasionally pop up along Samus' journey. Maybe pop over to this asteroid belt and track down and kill a high ranking pirate for an extra reward.

Found this review when I was buying a copy of Metroid Prime Remastered on Amazon. Guy's complaining about how a Metroid game doesn't hold your hand lol.

Can I just rant about Fusion for a second? Because I am so fucking MATI rn.
Metroid Fusion (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)-2.png
If you've ever tried to 100% Fusion, you can almost certainly recognize this room. If not, here it is in motion (this is not my gameplay):

Note how every time you touch the crumble blocks control is immediately taken from the player. I cannot put into words just how difficult that space jump through the narrow part in the corridor is. There is barely enough room and if you so much a graze the sides Samus has some kind of hysterical seizure and can't move until she falls through. I get that challenge is one thing, but when your game requires actual frame-perfect input it's time to tell your lead room designer to take his dick out of the family pet and do his fucking job.

One final thing:
Metroid Fusion (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)-0.png
I did not fuck around on this playthrough. I had to basically facetank everything to get through each section in a timely manner. The only stopping point was the above-mentioned room. Yet I still finished with less than three minutes to spare. Who though this was good game design? Only the original NES Metroid is stricter and a) they obviously didn't expect the player to 100% it and b) that game sucks anyway so "it's not as bad as the NES one" isn't a point in Fusion's favor.

Sorry for the rant. I otherwise love Metroid Fusion, it's just ruined by a couple of easily-fixable things.

A fuckin' year and no Metroid. I trust Retro, but development hell ain't good. A middling Prime 4 release would almost be as bad as a bomb.

Its been in dev hell for at least 7 years at this point and been thrown around several different studios. Probably vaporware at this point. Im more pissed that Prime hunters didn't get a remake for the switch but they remastered and ported Prime 1 to it, a game that really didn't need it and was already remastered in the prime trilogy release for the wii + graphics mods in emulators. While prime hunters would benefit greatly from the second analog stick.

I'm actually betting Prime 4 is a Switch 2 launch title and that console seems to be in a little bit of a delay.

I fully believe the Switch 2 is ready to go but Nintendo is just waiting on it since they have no need to really rush anything out.
I definitely believe there has been some sort of hardware issue screwing up things behind the scenes. Maybe it was the end generation hardware refresh like the New 3DS, maybe it was the Switch 2. I think it's partially to blame for Tears of the Kingdom's delay and Scarlet/Violets poor performance. Both were designed for better hardware.

Fusion sucks.

Maybe Nintendo is just trying to avoid a "we can't find Switch 2 for 2 years" scenario after all the hooplah around PS5

And unfortunately, Prime 4 is the only thing that could be a solid launch title for it so it's getting delayed.

If you think that's bad, try getting some of those items where you need the Speed Booster. Even in Super Metroid those were annoying but still doable. In Fusion (or it might have been another game)...I just couldn't figure it out.

I don't really understand why everyone's waiting with so much anticipation for Prime 4. The first Prime game was awesome, almost on par with Super Metroid, and one of the best games on the gamecube, Prime 2 was pretty good, but, already a bit more meh than the first game. Prime 3 though was pretty bad and barely felt like a Metroid game and retro's original plan for Prime 3 would have been even less like a metroid game.

Whatever Prime 4 is I can guarantee it's going to be more gay story bullshit, more characters and dialog and exposition and all that other gay shit and less 'here's a weird alien planet. I dunno explore and figure out where to go and what's going on and shit'

Because every game after super metroid and metroid prime seemed to think we all needed to give a shit why the powersuit wearing space lady's on some weird planet killing aliens and space pirates and shit beyond because they're bad and they're doing bad shit.
