Beat the Spider Guardian in Prime 2. Not that bad but the crappy morph ball controls don't help. It's also not obvious you can reset/extend the timer on the boss' green phase by continuing to bomb him, which makes the final section much easier.

Based on everything I've been seeing about the game, this sounds about like what I was expecting.

I've had this crazy personal conspiracy theory for years that Nintendo has been intentionally sabotaging the metroid series ever since that gameboy dude who was heavily involved with metroid 2 and Super Metroid quit Nintendo to go do the wonderswan shit and then died under questionable circumstances. Then that other director dude got free reign to just turn metroid into his own personal anime tier Samus fan fiction. I know this probably has nothing to do with Retro studios and prime 4 but it seemed like a good time to go on an autistic metroid rant seeing as Prime 4 seems just as full of the same bullshit I hated in most of the metroid games that came after Super Metroid.

I recall during the previews one journalist got told by the Nintendo rep "don't worry, he's only there for the start of the game". So not only was that a lie, it's even worse than initially thought in that there's a whole troupe of them.
It says a lot that even journalists of all "people" are panning the writing. Guess that'll be Metroid dead in the water for the next decade or so.

Yeah, that all sounds like bullcrap to me. Heck the guy who you claim was heavily involved in Metroid 2 and Super, Gunpei Yokoi, actually thought the latter was going to flop.

Yeah this ain't looking good. I had my suspicions when Nintendo suddenly clammed up after the Myles reveal. Apparently all of the companions are fucking annoying and the bike just makes the game feel disjointed. Another victim of development hell it seems. I'm gonna play it anyway cause I'm one of the 12 Metroid fans that are still left after this series has languished in mediocrity for over a decade.

If I was a dev that worked on this game I would have a strong urge to sabotage the whole project before I let a Metroid game have marvel quips, like a Belmont stopping cultists from reviving Dracula.
The gameplay looks fun and the music and environments look great (minus the desert) but every single line of dialog I've heard baffles me.
It dosent really matter if it's just present 20% of the game, the fact that it's there at all is a nasty blemish to me.
How could this writing pass through multiple hands and end up as the final product for a series renowned for its atmosphere and sense of isolation, it's like if they put Sonic the Hedgehog in Silent Hill.

From the reviews I've read (attachment is from the IGN review https://www.ign.com/articles/metroid-prime-4-beyond-review) it seems the NPCs are as intrusive and hand-holdy as we worried about. You know, I get devs wanting to put in stuff like NPCs that tell you what to do and where to go in their games. You want people who either have never played a game in their life or are just braindead retarded to be able to play and beat your game. Sure, I get that. Just give us an option to turn it OFF! They have an option for on-screen hints to be turned off, just do the same for the NPCs! Or better yet, have them only give hints when the player explicitly asks for them. Maybe something like the codec from the Metal Gear Solid games, where the player has to intentionally ask for advice. These solutions are just so simple and obvious, I really can't fathom why they're not in the game.

the irony is not lost on these fucking mongoloids, shoulda have gone with signposting but modern devs are too retarded and would yellow paint shit because it saves on development time.

I don't remember the last time my hype for a game died as fast as this. When they showed the first trailer and it looked like actual Prime game I was really hyped for more Prime 1 style goodness. But then they showed the "funny" NPCs and any hype I had instantly died. Prime 4 went from instant buy to skip the moment it happened.
Just imagine if in Prime 1 you had some random NPC blurt out shitty one liners as you land on Tallon IV. The incredibly atmospheric moment would be completely ruined.

81... My disappointment was to be expected, and my day is mildly dejected. Not as bad as Other M, of course, but mid as fuck. And I would argue that something in the Prime series - should never be mid, and in some ways, mid is worse than bad.

Before the NPCs were even shown: I thought the new (red) suit looked mid as fuck, the music sounded mid as fuck, the Metroidcycle was worrying as fuck, the chosen one plot (again) sounded mid, the psychic powers looked gimmicky as fuck, the planet's dumbass name was PEAK MID, the main villain being absent was strange, and the hollow open world was naturally worrying as fuck... Shit never looked right outside of the June 2024 trailer.

The June 2024 trailer was awesome, totally what I hoped for. Very impressive graphics, the slightly tweaked Varia suit was the best Samus ever had, and the story looked like it was picking up immediately after 3. But - even in that trailer all the way back then, one thing made me feel uneasy. That last theme that played when Samus appeared in the jungle, it sounded worryingly bland. The vibe was clearly trying to invoke "Metroid Prime"... but the song just sounded like, discount or knockoff Metroid Prime.

This sounded mid to me... I don't know if anyone else felt the same. I tried to brush it off as a petty gripe as the months went on, but it was always nagging me. If the music is mid, the game will be mid. And look where we are. That's not even getting into the dieversity hire Feds, which of course were already speculated to be tagalongs for the entire adventure... and of course, they were. Metroid can't be Metroid, it has to be Halo Infinite, because surely that will sell... Prime 4 was the only reason I kept my Switch, now I am at least free to ignore this next generation and continue emulating superior games from the past before greed and winning buttfucked nintendo.

Give the player the option to kill the NPCs on sight, and I'll kneel.
Imagine if it branched there, and you could go through the game in one of two styles. One with annoying faggots pestering you the whole way for the reddit crowd, and one in complete silence for those who actually wanted to play a Metroid game.

As long as I can skip the cutscenes, I don't care. I never watch them anyway.
But you can't skip the escort missions where they accompany you and commentate.

Oh and Myles apparently is the least annoying one.
