Will it be better or worse than The Binding of Isaac?

Bump coming out Feb 10.

I really want to like Into the Breach. I like the mechanics and the puzzles. However some runs are simply not winnable because of the RNG; no matter how well you so and how good you play, you will take chip damage and you will wear your guy out!

That's my main problem with Into the Breach and other tactical games that try to cram rogue lite elements in there. It's completely antithetical to what a strategy/tactics game is about and rogue elements really don't belong in a tactics game.

Into the Breach toned down the build/ability randomness and you can very easily win rounds/dominate with starting builds/without buying an item. But some encounters are too hard and just not fun and it doesn't let you reset much. At certain points you HAVE to tank damage.

I want to buy it and I want to like it, but I really feel that I'm gonna beat it once and drop it.

The big problem, like TBOI, too much content will harm this game. Like the pools get cluttered with shit items and drops become unreliable and runs unwinnable or even ruined.

And the McMillen team tends to have an incentive to nerf fun out of the game. Happened to Isaac.

This also has the chance of becoming Bumbo, where they will just work on it a bit and then abandon it for ever.

Bum-bo was abandoned because nobody plays it, no one is still playing the game because it is just bad. If you go by the recent reviews on Steam you can see the mostly obsolete Flash TBoI is something like 15x more popular today than Bum-bo (Rebirth is x351 lol). Despite both TBoI's being years older than Bum-bo and one of those games being obsolete, they still sell better today.

McMillen (with Florian) shat out Flash TBoI as a small project after Super Meat Boy in three months and then moved on, but because eventually it started slowly ramping up in sales much later they came back and did Wrath of the Lamb. Bum-bo is just not a good game it is way way way too slow. At the time McMillen had spent more time on this game than any other and in a meta way you can feel that slow slog in the game. They actually lost an entire year of development trying to make exploring rooms have a purpose, with traps and NPC. But all of that was completely cut and the game is still at a snail's pace always. Bum-bo got "The Lost" expansion or something but nobody cared.

The development for Bum-bo seems to have been a major shit show. I remember skipping work early to get home so I could get the game the minute it released, but they fucking delayed it something like an hour before it was due to be released. I think because the only dev James messed something up? Even the game's launch was fucked.

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, I can't remember the last time I've even died in Isaac outside of shit like Tainted Lost runs. With a little knowledge you can still break the game in half every single time.
(Meanwhile I appreciate that they eliminated the two-item breaks, it's fun the first time you spend 40 minutes on one floor gathering shit in a room to dupe or whatever but not so much when you get the chance every other run. Now that kind of thing is more like a one in a hundred, which is better).
As far as the pools go, pretty much all the worst items were the ones that were in the game from day one, as evidenced by the fact that they recently buffed all the complete garbage to be useful and it was all that shit (like Lemon Mishap, the fart beans, etc). Which points to power creep in later additions if anything.
The only thing that'll actually fuck a run is picking up glitch items, which isn't a mistake you make twice, and there's only like three of those and they're mostly rare secret room drops so they aren't exactly polluting the tables.

Anyway Mewgenics looks interesting, based on the one video I've seen of Ed playing through the first dungeon. But Bumbo stank so much it's definitely a pirate-first proposition.

I mean Mewgenics has a chance to be the same...

It's pretty niche and might not work.

The initial push might not be enough...

IM SO HECKIN EXCITED!!!

I wager itd be pretti good considering its been called a combination of fire emblem, pokemon, the sims and isaac, turn based tactical roguelike breeding simulator. Edmund might be the nuttiest motherfucker for coming up with such great genre combinations which would never make sense in an industry context. Its the first game Ive actually been excited for since Sekiro, Ive poured probably couple hundred hours into isaac and this would definitely be a gemerald.

For the skeptics who say Bumbo is shit so this will be, Bumbo is shit because it relies too much on luck and it seems formulaic. I dont think this will be the case cause its gameplay is a lot more skill based, like isaac.

Yet another trailer, a fourth one. This is a remake of the original thirteen year old trailer.

I feel like they only remade this trailer because they liked that original trailer's song so much.

Well, let's see if Ed's stolen another 4,000 hours of my life or not.

Update:
There is an effeminate male character called "Tink" who constantly flirts with your character.
Tink is married to a woman.
I'm hoping this is an old school gay joke, similar to Mr Slave in south park. If so, it's pretty funny.

Yeah we’re only in February but I’m pretty confident this is the Indie GOTY. I’m most impressed by the level of polish. One of the best soundtracks for a video game.

My only smallest quibble is that navigating the menus is kinda crappy. But I think that’s by design this isn’t a game you’re really supposed to be min maxing and doing nerdy stat analysis.

I heard from the games TV Tropes page that there's a "Troll Engine" that will give you bad luck on events/harder encounters if you are doing "too well". Already getting on the anti-metagaming, huh? I'll still check this one out.
