Holy shit re: leechstrats, I just discovered the "Clew of Leeches" ability. Surrounds an enemy with leeches (champion ones with the + version) and if that's an oversized enemy/boss, it still does just what it says. That's a lot for only 8 mana. And the upgraded Divine Retribution or whatever it's called does 10 holy damage and stuns whenever one dies. You could probably lock down even most multi-turn bosses permanently.
If I didn't just do a massive purge to try and eradicate the Schwarzenegger gene I'd be tempted to breed for these to see how far you can get with just a pseudo-Necro/Cleric pair. Or a super solo cat with both abilities if you got lucky I guess.

How this game compares gameplay-wise to stuff like the Darkest Dungeon, Battle Brothers, Urtuk: The Desolation and similar? I really enjoy turn-based tactical combat and don't mind having my runs completely fucked. I haven't bought this one yet because ui and graphic style kind of melt my brain. Is this game more of a "either love it or hate it" type or just takes getting used to? I'm not a part of the hypetrain, just a standard, boring games enjoyer.

It's closer to Urtuk or BB, with most apparent differences to aforementioned games being grid based levels, game using actions instead of action points and most action results being deterministic rather than probabilistic. Oh, and you don't get to build persistent characters up, a cat can only do one adventure after which is hopefully useful breeding stock.

Imagine Into the Breach, but way more chaotic.

The strategic layer is far less complex and forgiving. There is no world to explore like in BB. It's not as hardcore and most runs seem to be winnable even if party-composition isn't exact. You can't use a unit more than once plus a bossfight so you won't have the emotional highs and lows like in DD or BB.

The fun comes from doing crazy things in the tactical layer and seeing the chaos that unfolds.

BB mentioned, interest gained
Speaking of, Menace released in early access too this month but it's obviously overshadowed by Meowgenics.

Cats can be gay btw

You unlock the "gaydar" from Tink and this happens

Yeah it's not really anything like Battle Brothers aside from being on a grid. Maybe in the very vague sense of doing the cannon fodder thing where you throw recruits in the woodchipper and see who deserves to wind up a veteran. But less figuratively.
I'd argue the "world" is a lot more interesting on that point though, since it's an Isaac-like where you're exploring what turns out to be a fucked-up iceberg.

MENACE is great so far but there's only about 20 hours before you hit an EA under construction sign (they fooled me, the fuckers). It doesn't really deserve any more attention until they finish the damn game, but it seems like it might be pretty sick when they do.

The game's fun, the presentation (outside of Edmund's weird fixations) is great, but the amount of somewhat artificial feeling grind is daunting. Reminds me of when Greed Mode was added in Afterbirth, and then nerfed so the donation machine at the end would jam super fast.

At least it isn't the "modern" fag flag with troons and nigs shoehorned in.
Check again, I added new f(l)ags

What I don't like about the design is that the utility of the classes can vary so much. Like a Necromancer can roll the Raise Dead ability or the Vampirism ability and be a good support,or roll the shitty "deal hapf your hp as damage" or leech everyone and be completely useless. Same for ranger; you can roll a decent mobility or summon ability, or just a shitty "make brambles" ability. I'm sorry but the "make 3x3 brambles" ability is vastly inferior to the "attack same enemy 5 times" ability. I don't care how many synergies bla bla. The only class that seems consistent is the cleric and warrior; the cleric is a consistent support with overall great abilities and the warrior is consistently shit.

And the runs are completely dependent on good rolls and great abilities. It doesn't matter how good you are or how well you play; the runs are decided by a dice roll, and you cannot change this or in some cases even mitigate the losses. There's just not enough flexibility and that's just bad design.

I've had runs with good cats be ruined by shit abilities, or strays roll great abilities that took me to the final boss. It's such a shitty design choice to have runs ruined by an uncontrollable dice roll.

As soon as the mod kit is released I'll mod in something the likes of an allowed starting abilities list, and maybe an archetype list, so cats get some sort of matching abilities. Might as well remove some trash abilities from the current cats and add them to the collarless cats.

I get that the breed mechanic is supposed to mitigate for this, but I'm 12h into the game and I can't even breed a catvwith more than 7 in any stat. I get that the game wants you to retry runs and grind furniture, but that's just not fun.

Seven is the maximum. The game should probably tell you this; I heard Edmund say it on a stream.
Seven is a lot though.

And what mitigates the randomness, aside from eventually breeding in some skills/passives/mutations to kick off your builds, is (a) items and (b) the fact that you have four party members and you don't need four.
Items (and set bonuses) not only stack the fuck out of your stats and give extra attacks and synergies, they let you reroll and upgrade skills. And, like with Isaac, game knowledge lets you play around shitty luck once you get a feel for what's available. That's half the fun. I've had plenty of runs where my Cleric ended up being my Tank because my tank sucked, or whatever. And way more where some weird interaction I fell into because the shit I wanted wasn't showing up turned out overpowered an fun as hell, which is something you'd rob yourself of by being a gay baby and modding fixed skill lists in you fucking gay baby retard.

You can do all of Act 1 with strays, and easily spend another ten or twenty hours there doing secret quests/sidequests while building your kitten factory, so 12 hours of playtime is way too early to be throwing a tantrum and running to Visual Studio.

As much as I think anyone who doesnt interact with the breeding system in the game then complains about difficultly is subhuman nigger cattle, there should be more ways to consistently farm for mutations early game. Got lucky in the sewers, which is probably the best spot for early game mutation gathering, and got a house full of cats with 8+ STR and CON with health regen. Best advice is to chug viper and eat shit events as much as possible, even if your stats arent geared towards it

I just added one single piece of mutation furniture to my breeding room and I'm getting 2-3 mutations a night, so that's probably easy if you find a good early one.

Anyone know what having a positive health stat does besides lifespan? It says something about a chance of curing disorders, is it just the black passives?

(Edit: note that my "breeding room" was a full-on 30 cat orgy when I wrote this so YMMV. Since getting a fourth room and reorganising I can tell you're probably gonna want a bunch of mutagenic+health furniture if you're trying to be selective, and they're somewhat infrequent in the store. But a single piece with like +3 should work if you're going with the shotgun approach early game; still easier than adventuring.)
