Y'know how all the classes have minibosses themed after them? Arthur's the Jester equivalent, and until Gaylel Glaiel nerfed his Metronome pool he had access to every class spell in the game, including the aforementioned Split The Atom, We Are One, and Become Entropy. Now he no longer has access to those.
>I'm playing the game completely unpatched
I see I am very very fucked whenever he comes along
anyways, I don't have Jester. I'm still stuck without the Rift. Good to know that class also has a miniboss themed after it.
IIRC, Glaiel said that modders and their custom classes got 3 out of 4 guesses right, and looking at Nexus we have a Bomber class themed after Radical Rat, a Pyromaniac, a Gunslinger no doubt inspired by Zodiac, a Paladin, and a Revenant.
A Gunslinger class is definitely in the cards (Zodiac was always popular even during playtesting).
My bets are easily on some kind of gunslinger and 200% a permanent summon/taming class. Druid is only a halfway point (that really focuses more on general support for most of its passives and half of its actives) and McMillen hasn't been shy about his Pokémon influences whatsoever. Combine that with there being entire status conditions devoted to controlling opponents, multiple quest items that give you the chance to do so (but never permanently), and several major bosses focusing on enemy control without it being their main thing... if there isn't some kind of outright Pokémon trainer equivalent in DLC, I'll be
very shocked.
But I will be disappointed if McMillen doesn't give it a higher chance to loot items that are outright copy-pastes from the series (like the Citrus Berry).
I agree that gunslinger is probably lime, even though that is a hilariously gaudy color to give a bullet-dispensing class, but I'm not super confident that the summoning class would be pink. I mean, it's possible-- Hunter, Necromancer, and Druid all have some substantial focus on familiars and are completely unrelated colorwise-- but I just think Pink will have more to do with physical fighting given the precedent Butcher and Fighter have set. Or maybe it'll be mostly debuffs and elemental damage since Psychic/Mage are purple. Dunno.
I don't know why McMillen would add a Paladin class when Cleric already fills that niche completely (tanky, Holy Element spells (including AoE that damages enemies if you count Evil Patron + Prayer), multiple passive and active abilities geared towards killing shit, etc.), so assuming that the other guesses are 3/4 correct, that leaves... gunslinger, pyromaniac (which I'm only now realizing doesn't already exist. Does a fire-focused Mage not count? those guys are awful to play), bomber,
Pokémon trainer summoner/enemy converter (Revenant in the mods).
I'm not sure why you're trying to draw comparisons to other bosses here, because most of the proper bosses do not have an existing class equivalent, but if we're doing that... the Bomber could be Radical Rat, the Gunslinger would be Zodiac, the Revenant/Summoner could be any one of the Lab bosses (Stacy if it focuses on some kind of permanent, modifiable sidekick; Spewer if it focuses more on spam and debuffs) or the Infested Pair, and the Pyromaniac could be
Hitler II or the Tormentor.
I can see it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
