Microsoft hate thread - I just want to rant about Microsoft

Now, once Softie sunsets the last version office you could install on a local network (Office 2019), how will I feel? Probably not too good, but we're not quite there yet.
There was a 2021 VL version and they also released Office 2024 LTSC 6 months ago which according to MS is designed to not have any cloud retardation in it.
Office LTSC 2024 is different from the Office version offered through Microsoft 365 plans, called Microsoft 365 Apps. Because it's designed for disconnected environments, Office LTSC doesn't include any cloud-backed features. It also doesn't receive feature updates after launch. If your organization currently deploys Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise or Microsoft 365 Apps for business, you don't need Office LTSC 2024. Microsoft 365 Apps includes all Office LTSC 2024 features and many more features that Office LTSC 2024 doesn't include.
You can download the setup files for it using the Office C2R tool and activate it like any other version of Office.

Not sure where to put it, but here seems good. Microsoft/Github shut down OrganicMaps' Github repo last month, supposedly because a contributor logged in from, or visited, a US-sanctioned location.

No details on exactly what happened, though some people seem to be implying (or guessing) that it was someone logging in from Palestine.

The only actually good Windows OSes were NT 3.5.1 and XP. Windows 10 was semi-okay (after removing the worst of the spyware) before they shat it up with a bunch of nonsense and then abandoned it.
I have my 10 desktop formatted to look like it did in the XP days. Vastly preferable to default and I find it weird that they don't just make it look like that or 7 by default.

2K, 2K is the GOAT because of what it brought to the table. The best of NT and Win9x matched together like penis and vagina, proving that things didn't have to be dumb and gay.

Windows drivers have to be the shittiest fucking thing in existence.
I accidentally figured out how to stuck a laptop in ACPI sleep by just connecting a different device to my headphones which my fucking laptop *that is currently asleep* is trying to connect to.
Why would you need a bluetooth device like headphones when the master device is asleep? It's not an HID device...
Does Microsoft ever check the drivers that the vendors submit?
I found out the other day that the company that made the chip for my serial-to-USB device remotely disabled the drivers needed for that chip through Windows Update.

Gotta be more specific when it comes to Teams.
Teams is a stinking pile of shit probably made solely by Indians, and that still doesn't explain why its still bad.
I think Outlook (both Classic and New) can compete with Teams level of shittiness.

I am so fucking glad I no longer deal with anything Microsoft, my computing life has been made far simpler as a result.

Outlook (both Classic and New)
I don't get people that used the stock Windows Outlook. I get people who use the MS Office version at work since MS Office ecosystem integration is top notch, but for home use just use Thunderbird/Betterbird. To be fair, I don't get people who just settle for the Microsoft defaults. Remember that even during XP days you had integrated web browsers, image viewers, file managers and media players, yet people still opted for programs like Opera, IrfanView, Total Commander and Winamp/Media Player Classic, just because they were better and they were free. Though I guess that's just the general modern lack of tech savviness coming into play.

I also had very limited experience with Teams, but I feel like it's shittiness is not in how it works, but rather that it's overcomplicated for what people actually use it for: text chat and video conferencing. Microsoft tries to make it some amazing all-in-one collaboration ecosystem, people get confused by all of that bullshit and only want something simple like Skype. Microsoft could probably unfuck Teams a lot if they introduced something like a "Teams Lite" option where it cuts down the feature set to resemble old Skype and most complaints would go away.

Also, even Microsoft realized that this Teams split-up for home and commercial use cases was retarded and have since merged it all into one. Obviously people had issues with it and bitched about it since there was a change and they had to install something new, log into it and oh my god the world is ending I don't like change hate Microsoft hate hate HATE. If anything they should be mad at Microsoft for not doing it in the first place, but nowadays it's trendy to make up the most Looney Tunes villainious stories about how shit Microsoft is instead of being constructive about how shit they actually are nowadays. They are shit, but nowhere near to the level people on the Internet emotionally make them out to be.

Teams (work or school). Self-dox but I was forced to use this steaming pile of shit during COVID. The end result was endless kicking in voicecalls because boomers were too fucking stupid who was kicking people out, and only the administrator can see whoever that is messing with the server.

You forgot about

Teams NEW is now just called Teams. I think. The name replaces classic and new.

Still can't believe Microsoft hasn't sorted out the weird disconnect between Teams and Chats in MS Teams. Nobody uses the Team chats, I've never seen any company where that's popular. Everyone just creates little chat groups in the Chat section and never visits the other tab.

They're trying to fix this in the preview version where they've merged the two UIs together, but then they placed Teams way down the bottom so they still get ignored. The UX is just so stupid, they really messed up by having two distinct areas where chats can happen.

Anyway the only good feature of Teams is you can mute individual participants in a meeting and they can't tell where it came from.

Yeah. The new version is some Edge WebView2 abomination that's somehow even more bloated than the old version. It also has a strange habit of randomly crashing for some users. Never been able to track down why as the logs show nothing at all.

It is a shame, I switched over to New Teams immediately because originally it ran fantastic with very minimal resource usage. Sure, it was basic, but it did everything I needed to do in it without problems (Chat and the occassional meeting).
Then Microshit started making it progressively worse over time to the point where its just as bad as the old Electron one, and this entire exercise was a waste of time.
I have a hunch that Microshit will slowly """upgrade""" the other Office apps to just their web versions, they are already doing it with Outlook.
I didn't think an app could be worse then Classic Outlook, until I tried New Outlook after all.

If you ran a business and pirated every single copy of Windows you had, they'd come down on you like a ton of bricks, but they've generally been pretty hands-off about individual piracy since at least 2000 or so. Even before then they weren't extremely aggressive. For instance, you could just make up Windows 95 keys if you knew how they were formed.

I think they prefer tolerating some amount of piracy to old versions being out there getting recruited into botnets.
I mean the Russian government has basically given the green light to it's companies to pirate the software. Can't do anything to companies in an unfriendly nation. Though it's interesting with how much tech there is out there people more illiterate on tech. I thought we would be in a new age of piracy because of the war but still the same old same old unless you know Cyrillic

Why do I need to update so often?
It's gotten to the point my year old computer asks me every fucking day. Then you turn the computer and have to wait a few min to configure updates. I can't believe computers basically going back in time with start ups. Crazy we thought with SSDs becoming the norm we would get no more start ups or load screens. Pajeets in tech ruined everything

I concur, half of my tickets are people who touched the nu-outlook slider and get stuck using something with half the features ripped out and not even support for offline work and global searching, it's literally just OWA in a window.

It has gone so bad that we deploy GPOs and register keys to prevent people from opening nu-look.

It could be worse. My Outlook decided to put me in the B group and forcibly switched me to the new look whenever I launched the program. It was so unusable I had to get IT to install Thunderbird on my laptop.

I eventually got so fed up with Windows in general I just bought a macbook for my own money and had IT enroll it as a company laptop. Now everything just works and not having to struggle to figure out how to make my laptop do what I want rather than what Microsoft thinks I should want makes work much more enjoyable and productive. Something as simple as scroll now scrolling in the right direction without making me write a script to install a registry hack each boot makes my work so much easier.

Today's the day Microsoft killed Skype. Anyone who's still using the platforms has to use Teams instead, and the website redirects to Teams. I haven't used Skype in a good while, but the interface was much better than Teams (really, anything is).
Even if nobody uses it, it's still sad to see it go. It was a part of internet history, and I feel like Microsoft should've kept it online for posterity. Fuck Microsoft.

I hate using Windows too. I installed Linux Mint. Everything just works on more affordable hardware.
