Windows 8 was such a turd that it made Windows 10 feel like a return to form just by comparison.I like Windows 10.
It also helps that I was able to get Windows 10 with my Windows 7 CD Key.

Ditto. Moved over to PopOS and haven't looked back. I only play single player games and most new AAA games are not worth playing so there's nothing lost.I switched from Win7 to Linux and never looked back. Until the other day, I probably had 10 minutes of hands-on time with Win10. Someone needed help installing some new software and I spent about 15 minutes clicking around trying to figure out how to run the fucking installer as admin. The option was grayed out everywhere. I read 5 or so Stack Overflow posts that suggested more and more extreme solutions until I finally thought to run Command Prompt as admin and do the install from there. HOLY FUCK. I can't fathom using an OS that doesn't have a "I don't give a fuck what this program does, just SHUT UP and run it" button. The entire OS feels like it was designed to protect the user from themselves, which is only good for people over 80 and children.
Outside of proprietary software and online multiplayer games, Linux should be the obvious choice for any tech-minded person.
I've never had this problem, your friend is probably retarded and did something retarded.I switched from Win7 to Linux and never looked back. Fair enough, though I figured if even old-ass Grub is still having problems where the solution is to just buy a different brand of GPU, I can't imagine the kind of problems I'd have trying to get Adobe CC to work smoothly. And there's no way I'm going down the hackintosh route either, what with how terrible MacOS is.>NVidia
There's your problem. For some reason NVidia does not like to play nice with Linux. AMD seems to be the better of the two when it comes to that
Blame NVidia. AMD some time ago had a big reset with how they do things with linux and now not only take their time with linux support/drivers, but since they went open-source, you have multiple people outside of AMD that are contributing to making shit easier for linux users to the point where it "just works".I really figured Linux would be long past retarded incompatibility problems like that, yet here we are.
If you think 3.11 was a decent release you never used it.The smart money, for sure.
Windows 3.11: Decent release.
Windows 95: Shithouse.
Windows 98: Fixed the bugs, decent release.
Windows 2000/ME: Shithouse.
Windows XP: Probably the finest operating system they've ever made.
Windows Vista: Shithouse.
Windows 7: Probably the second finest operating system they've ever made.
Windows 8: Shithouse.
Windows 10: Fixed the shitty UI design (and bugs), decent release.
Windows ?: ______________
They've said this continually and seeing how little windows 10 has changed functionally over that time I would think it's true. Probably is just going to be changed generically to "Windows" without any other descriptors or something to make it final, as you've put forward, but I wouldn't doubt if they make it even more reliant on the internet and specifically their services moving forward, as well as cutting the cord on several not specifically required for legacy business/professional software features like screensavers. They've already made it obvious they don't give a shit about user customizability especially relating to being able to modify the look or feel of your computer.I thought Windows 10 was the final version of Windows, meant to pivot the OS to being "windows as a service" .
They're probably going to call this "Windows Live" or some shit to officialize it.
Same with 98. Bluescreens were lurking around every corner. If you think 3.11 was a decent release you never used it.
Yeah, but 3.11 was far worse with all of those GPAs and DOS related problems, messing with autoexec and boot disks because clearly DOS was already archaic by 1990 and couldn't deal with memory. Windows 98 did it all for you.Same with 98. Bluescreens were lurking around every corner.
I get the hate for ME, Vista, and 8, but what was wrong with Windows 95?The smart money, for sure.

Windows 95 was what caused the tech industry to get involved into politics. Steve Jobs wanted to sue Microsoft for their idea of allowing Windows 95 to come free with all PCs, so Apple started donating heavily to politicians so they could craft policy specifically in Apple's favor and Apple then goes ahead and sues Microsoft. The verdict forbade Microsoft going forward with it's idea and so Microsoft then allocates funds to also buy out politicians in an government buyout arms race Anyways the reason why the tech industry is as bad as it is is mostly all stemming from that one case which set the standard.I get the hate for ME, Vista, and 8, but what was wrong with Windows 95?
That's all interesting stuff, but the actual operating system itself was fine. This is kind of like hating Mortal Kombat because its release led to the ESRB.Windows 95 was what caused the tech industry to get involved into politics. Windows 10 Millennium EditionAnyone want to take a guess at the new name? Windows Next?
I remember aviation games being kino back in the day.Personally I'll be okay with any future bastardization of Windows IF and only IF they bring back badass commercials like this:
(still trying to find what song this is after 20 years)
or kitschy shit like this
If Microsoft wants to fuck me with shitty software, they'd better do it with style. They don't make em like these anymore.
How would this benefit Microsoft? It's not like there aren't alternatives to their OS now more than ever before. They sold 10 as a free version of Windows with unlimited updates, right? The only caveat is they profit off of your sold data. If they remove the free part then it's just another subscription product and I can see a lot of people not wanting that.My bet is some type of monthly service fee like so many other programs try to shit out now a days. The time of one off purchases is coming to a close methinks; products as a service, keep them plebs paying every day and every way.
