Apparently there's a new launcher.

Apparently, it's really buggy.

Thanks Microsoft.

So why is there a new launcher?
Well, following the link leads to this page.

To "unify" Java and Bedrock.

You bet your ass they're going to take me kicking and screaming, I'm not losing Optifine and dealing with even more Microsoft bullshit for "convenience; the launcher".
bedrock is fucking garbage anyway, the controls are so floaty and I hate the way the fucking inventory lags.

I'm curious. Why is it that some people here don't like the Phantom? I can understand the annoyance towards it but, for me, it's no more annoying to deal with than creepers if not less so.
I don't dislike the idea of a new hostile mob. In fact, I welcome the idea of new hostile mobs, because I'm a Survival-focused player, and I remember downloading Dr. Zhark's Mo' Creatures mod during the Beta days just for the chance of fighting new and interesting mobs. However, the overall design of the Phantom is poorly thought-out.

First off, the spawning condition. At first it doesn't seem too bad: go three days without sleeping and they will spawn. However, the problem is that once you trigger their spawning, they are completely relentless in doing so, spawning endlessly and in progressively bigger waves until you finally cave and go to bed. As someone who's used to only sleeping on occasion to skip the night, preferring to use the night to hunt mobs while lighting up my base area for safety, this is a huge flow breaker. It gets even worse if you're away from your base, since they force you to consider bringing a bed along with the trip, taking up valuable inventory space that could be used for treasure, as well as setting your spawn somewhere in the wilderness or resetting it should you ever break it. Hope your base isn't too far from spawn!

Second, while they may be avoidable in Single Player, in Multiplayer it's a different story. See, I have a habit of building AFK machines on my servers, from Automatic Chicken Cookers, Automatic Bamboo Farms, AFK Cave Spider Farms, etc., and once I do, I tend to idle in a safe spot to build up resources when I'm asleep or at work. Trouble is, in doing so, it prevents my guests from sleeping, which means they too will be harassed by never-ending waves of Phantoms any time the sun goes down. "So why don't you just get a cat so that you're safe," you ask? Well that leads me to my third point, which is...

...Their sounds. This is somewhat subjective, but I hate their sounds. They're just too loud for my liking, and I'm easily annoyed by loud mobs. For instance, I once "astroturfed" the interior of a castle I built in the Alpha/Beta days with green wool because I was tired of Cows endlessly spawning and causing a lot of noise, so imagine how irritating it is for me when I'm trying to fish, and being constantly forced to hear a hissing match between my cat and the Phantoms overhead. While I do have Passive Mob Voices turned down in the volume setting, I keep Hostile Mob Voices high, since I rely on them to detect danger or to find new cave sections, so every time they spawn, I'm greeted with an obnoxiously loud hissing noise.

Fourth, fighting them is a bitch. They have an annoyingly small hitbox and fly in fairly unpredictable patterns, which means your only chance of hitting them with a ranged weapon is when they're diving straight towards you. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't compounded by every other problem in this list, including...

...Their drop. As mentioned, the Elytra's repair material was changed from Leather to Phantom Membrane, giving them a false sense of necessity. They're especially unnecessary when you can just apply Mending to an Elytra to ensure it'll be topped up on Durability. Their other use, Slow Fall Potions, are way too niche for me to ever consider crafting them. So fighting them is not only annoying, it has no reward. However, even if you did need their drops, you don't even need to have Phantoms enabled, since Cats can supply you with Phantom Membranes without you ever having to fight a single Phantom.

So I'll gladly /gamerule doInsomnia false away. Phantoms just make every aspect of the game worse due to their poor design, something even the creators of the game agree upon.

I would´ve made the Membrane be a crafting material for a low tier Elytra.

Or shoes that have the Levitation effect after jumping like the turtle helmet does Oxygen.

That's fair. Can't really argue with that.

The first issue I feel could easily be remedied with them introducing a "sleeping bag" type of item that let's you skip the night on the go.

The Multiplayer issue could probably be fixed by tweaking how hostile mobs prevent you from sleeping.

Really, now that mentioned it, the Phantom does feel poor in their implementation. To be fair to it though, the Phantom was bringing a new mechanic with it and Mojang likely didn't give themselves enough time to workshop and properly flesh it or the mob out.

Since we're talking about the Phantom, the Great Hunger and the Barnacle also had the potential to be obnoxious (granted not as much).

maxresdefault (1).jpg

The Great Hunger would have been an "ambush" type of mob that attacks unsuspecting players. It would also have the ability to eat one of your enchanted items and strip it of its enchantments.

The Barnacle would have been a hostile ocean mob that would attempt to drown you.

The Multiplayer issue actually stems from the issue where all players on a server are required to sleep in order to skip the night, so if one player is AFKing on the server, then nobody can sleep, unless you install third party plugins or mods to alleviate the issue.

I think the big issue regarding the Phantom stems from how much it "breaks the rules" in regards to Overworld Hostile Mob spawning. Before the Phantom, the rule was "Light = Safe, Darkness = Danger," but the Phantom completely ignores this altogether, spawning directly onto the player every few minutes to harass them, so long as they're outdoors and it's night or storming. Being in your lit-up field at night will not prevent them from spawning, unlike any other Hostile Mob in the game. The only way to avoid them is to drop what you're doing, march your ass back to base, and sleep. It turns what should be a convenient quality of life feature -- The Bed -- into a required chore.

I'm with on that (even if I rarely use Optifine these days). Although, isn't this new launcher only for the bedrock editions players who purchase the pass?

From my Java launcher, I have the choice to play bedrock edition from there and, from the looks of it, I'm not required to use the new one.

Actually the latest update implemented a "required sleeping player count" feature via the gamerule settings.

No, actually.

The Bedrock option is there, but you can't actually launch bedrock from the launcher, it just serves to advertise the new launcher.

It also has a constant advertisement for the "Improved" launcher on the bottom.

And from the passage I posted earlier,

Always used a cracked launcher specifically because of this.

I have a premium acc. but I rarely used it because most of my friends play cracked and I'm not really interested in playing in other servers or having custom skins, so.

A few of us plus some newer frands are playing on an anarchy server called Centerium.org
Admin is cool, doesn't play with an operator account
Straight vanilla
Some anti-cheat but hacks and shit allowed
No dupes currently but admin is considering next dupe on PaperMC permitting it
There's a discord in tab.
It's pretty chill but there's also a new war, there's some different factions and a lot of individuals, with varying levels of allies and teaming up etc.

MultiMc might be a good alternative launcher. Getting Optifine to work on it seems to be kinda a pain though, importing mod packs works well regardless.

I opened the minecraft launcher for the first time in a while and it seems microsoft lessened their retarded push for the new "improved" launcher.

I guess I'll just stick with this until they decide to just brick the launcher's functionality and then switch to something else, because I don't want to support the new shitty launcher.

Does it support Microsoft accounts now? That was a issue it had in past for my brother and, now that migrated mine, I'm not sure if I can consider it.

I finally bought it after having it years ago and losing access to whatever email I used to buy it.

How do I RTX. I want to justify spending too much on a graphics card.

Every single mob votes (so far) has been really poorly designed with the choices not being on the same level which ruins point of it as a whole.

There is always a superior one out of the list may it be known before or after, like the Blaze lord, Iceologer or Allay in the newest case.

But you can't really get mad at the winners for the previous ones because they were chosen because of there being lack of a mob type like them or because of their laughable disadvantage in the vote as a whole.
