Minecraft

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I mean, what'd get me through the day is being able to share screenshots of weird worldgen and future builds, but Null decided that all images must be the hell format known as webp with no alternative for conversion or even serving the original file, so there's no point.
I use these two extensions on Brave for converting .webp files to usable formats, and they've served me well enough:
If you really need people to be able to download it as a non-webp file, then host them off-site on ImgBB or Catbox and then post the link.

Additionally: redstoneheads, if you exist, please give me a primer or two. Every fucking guide out there is awfully shallow and typically in the form of some insufferable YouTube video or AI-tier journo article. I'm looking to make rollercoasters (as part of a theme park), moving doors, and transportation systems first and foremost above all else. I really don't care about auto-farming or automating shit in general because I truly think that ruins a huge amount of the gameplay loop. Regardless, I'm willing to learn just about anything because redstone seems very esoteric to me and I can't wrap my head around it much. Many thanks.
Consider reading up the Minecraft Wiki. Got all my knowledge about Minecraft from there ever since I was playing Beta. Rollercoasters are piss easy, chances are you'll just be placing redstone torches by powered rails. Piston doors are a bit more tricky but shit like the 2x2 pattern existed ever since they were first added to the game so you'll find plenty of reference.

How does one play Minecraft 1.12 illegitimately?
PollyMC (with 2 L's). It downloads the game from Mojang servers. I recommend a VPN while installing.

There was internal strife in the original PolyMC group. Trannyfag shit in everything resulted in a developer splintering off and making Polly. PollyMC was smeared as "unsafe" or a virus or something because trannies didn't like his politics.

I've briefly used PolyMC, I don't think it downloads the game for you.

Holy shit you can download Minecraft for free and just play it?

Yes.

Be careful with multiplayer, you might have to just set up LAN and play with your IRL local friends. I don't know if multiplayer works, I've never tried.

The best part: put it on a flash drive. Any computer with Java will run it fine from the flash drive. It even logs separate instances, so you can have 1.12 on one and the latest version on another instance, with different mods loaded, all in the same folder.

PolyMC, PollyMC if you want a Prism fork for whatever reason.

Yes, and at this point i'd encourage it with how Microsoft basically robbed everyone of their old copies.
Buying isn't owning, piracy isn't theft, etc.
Multi will require you to use a server in 'Offline Mode' (ie it doesn't call back home to authenticate the user connecting).

You always could? That's how I first played Beta 1.3_01 via AnjoCaido launcher that I've managed to find online back in 2011.

As for the Poly/PollyMC debacle, whatever @Black Man Underwear is babbling about is retarded. The owner of PolyMC's repo kicked all the fags off who then made Prism Launcher, and PollyMC is an unrelated fork of Prism that added offline mode, authlib-inject, and all the shit that PolyMC now has thanks to Lenny's leadership, so there is no point in getting anything else. Polly hasn't been updated since 2023 and Poly got it's last update in February of this year, so Poly is the way to go.
Worth mentioning about the whole portable Minecraft part: here you'll have to get a bit more technical and set up Poly to use a portable copy of JRE. You'll have to download something like Adoptium JRE 8 as an archive, unpack it, then manually link to it in PolyMC, ideally using relative paths so that it always knows where to look for it no matter the PC you're plugging your stick into. Unless you're actually planning to play Minecraft on various computers, don't bother yourself with it and install Adoptium as well as PolyMC normally.

LAN works just fine. You won't be able to join most servers, since "online mode" is enabled by default, which phones home to Mojang servers to check that you're authenticated (LAN doesn't do this). If you host your own server you can disable online mode in server.properties, or you can join a server with online mode disabled. As far as I'm concerned it has always been this way (since after the Multiplayer test anyway).

Addendum: Something that annoys me to no end is that even if you bought the game, you can't play Multiplayer on the Beta versions because of Microsoft's new account system. The game just hangs on you when you try to join a server. You can only play it in offline mode servers or if you patch the game. Shit like this makes me never want to buy video games again.

pollymc is a fork that was more focused on the quick support while polymc was stuck in update hell during the prism thing, it's why people kept recommending it in /mmcg/

It deliberately derebased itself onto Prism and kept the majority of the internal branding from it. If i recall correctly, the dev also spewed the same spergery that the Prism devs did during the shitshow itself.
'Not being fucked with externally' is the only reason that it was recommended in /mmcg/ (probably) and the only reason that remains for suggesting it is if you don't trust Poly but do trust Prism. Somehow.

Assortment of screenshots from my session playing beta MC today.

It was raining a lot during my session today. I heard Better Than Adventure has seasons... or was it Reindev? I don't remember.

Pretty cool, honestly. It's funny, seeing this glitch was more nostalgic than anything else in BTA.

BTA's movable containers really saved my skin during this session. I had loaded up on a huge amount of coal and lost my way while mining. I ended up lugging a treasure chest all the way home.

Am I the only one who remembers what a disastrously bad launch 1.14/Village and Pillage had? When I first booted it up on Java they somehow managed to break chunk loading so the game wasn't even playable. The update didn't work at all in multiplayer servers because for some fucking reason only one raid could be active at a time and the radius of the raid was ~50,000 blocks so everyone's villager farms would shit the bed. I remember dealing with that and a bunch of other balance/technical issues (some of which they still haven't addressed to this day) but all I remember was people being happy that cats could sleep on you now.

I felt like I was going fucking insane. Like was nobody else actually playing this shit? Was nobody logging into their worlds and seeing the game break before their eyes? It took them four patches to fix chunk loading. It was ridiculous. They released the most broken update in the game's history (besides maybe adventure update on launch) and it was like nobody cared.

I don't recall these issues, though I didn't play much at the time - just here to say that the MC community is satisfied with a few retextured blocks a year, and consider that good 'enuf content, everything else be damned.

I remember it being super fucking laggy.

I don't remember because i couldn't even play Flattening or beyond versions until earlier this year without some seriously fucked jank to get it to even run in the first place.
I can only assume it was worse than 1.13, somehow.

That would be because they were all worshipping the new texture slop dump that was poured out for them like the pigs they are. Anyone who gave a shit at that point was modding older versions still. I don't even think Forge had gotten to Flattening yet by that point, and Fabric was in its infancy.
