1.20.1 or 1.20.2+? One of these is far dumber than the others.
I think 1.20.1 is the first version in a long time that had a large contingent of mods stay on an older minor version, so updating on it makes at least some sense.

As per usual, backports exist if you must have it now. This one seems to be the least scuffed, though it lacks the Breeze- which isn't that big of a loss- and the Armadillo- which is a bit more of a loss, since the only half-decent wolf armor mod is on Fabric.
You'll have to muck about with Sinytra Connector if you want to replace that.

native support will always be better than backported support, i use futuremc whenever i want to check mods for 1.12 but the honey block doesn't work in the same way as the buzzy bees update honey block, one thing i noticed for wolf armor mods is that they always use the player armor style instead of doing their own thing like the armadillo wolf armor but i guess horse armor is to blame, syntra is a blessing though because of carpet and that mod emergent gardens made that allows AI to join your world, which also spawned other mods in a similar vein, kind of a shame since they don't merge with what emergent did and do their own logics but use the same framework.

I'd rather get the opinion of the one already present before going looking. Mostly because searching most places on the Internet gets me endless slop, but partly because i care about the local opinion more than the external one and unbiased anything is vanishingly rare nowadays.

Vanilla survival minecraft has been the exact same flawed and boring gameplay loop for like a decade now, and the vast majority of mods either add random bloat, technical autism or turn it into a different game rather than building and improving on the original.

The game only really works as a sandbox building simulator for creative people, survival is huge wasted potential.

minecraft's gameplay loop has always been: go mining for resources-> use resources to build stuff -> resources run out -> repeat. its changed alot, but the core of survival minecraft has been like this since the alpha builds.
I do think its gotten a lot easier in modern minecraft, and I think that's to the game's detriment; its gotten significantly easier to just completely ignore the survival mechanics nowadays, but I would never have called minecraft a "survival" game, in that the gameplay loop is about survival. the existing game's survival mechanics serve (or served) to break up the phases where you're building out your base. I think Vintage Story is a much better survival game (as in surviving in a wild environment) in that regard.

also vintage story? if it wanted to play RL craft that doesn't make me overheat under the shadows i'd just pick rlcraft, it suffers from trying to be a different fix of minecraft without trying it's own thing just like terraria does, maybe the devs will get that in the future and work on vintage story to be more unique on it's approach to the block building genre, till then...
