Some sky themed features wouldn't be half bad, maybe not a major Sky Update though
What would you really like to see in a “sky update”? Outside of a rare Sky Island/Paradise biomes and maybe some new useless mobs, I can’t really think of much you could do with the sky since it’s literally empty with nothing to build off of.

That being said, I think the next big revolutionary change for Minecraft would be increasing the build limit, which is soemthing they’ve been tinkering with. That would allow for deeper caves and more verticality with biomes. I’d love a Mountain Update that adds honest-to-god 2-300 block tall mountain ranges, with climbing gear or something like a hookshot to ease traversal and a wider variety of explosives to facilitate blasting an easier path through mountains.

Hmm, this is harder than I thought. A Cloud Fortress of somekind definitely, Griffins, Wyverns. I'm at a loss for any new mechanics but the community/devs would surely think of something cool. A mechanic involving glowstone and water would be a nice nod to the lore.

I heard they asked for Fantasy creature suggestions, that, coupled with the features of the Nether update, might mean Mojang is stepping away from useless ideas. Might. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, seeing as the mountain biome won the vote, that mountain improvement (as well as that build limit increase) will be coming sooner than you think.
A Cloud Fortress of somekind definitely, Griffins, Wyverns
Doubt they'll add Griffin's and Wyverns, seeing as they said they rejected the Idea of adding standard fantasy creatures.
It's probably just the human aversion to change, either that or i'm a faggot, what about you lot, you like the stuff they've been adding, or would you prefer they stopped?
They might as well keep going. If they stopped now, not only will they disappoint many people, but they'll leave so many wanting more. Besides the latest updates have been major improvements to the game.
The new mobs are useless from a gameplay perspective. Like, really, what the fuck are you going to do with pandas, parrots and polar bears?
Besides the polar bear, not really. The panda adds some life the bamboo jungle that I appreciate (unique animations, different personalities that vary from panda to panda and a farmable source of slime balls) and the parrots form as an alarm for hostile mobs (if a mob is nearby, the parrot will mimic it's sounds). If you're also referring to the Bees, I'll also have to disagree on that. I made an earlier post that touches on what they offer for the game.
Alright guys, I'm just going to go ahead and Necro the thread once again to point out that the Minecraft 1.15 update (Now named the "Buzzy Bees Update") is nearing completion. They released a Pre-Release snapshot a few days ago. For those who aren't aware of what this update is about or what's being included allow me to explain:

This update is focused around improving the game's overall performance and fixing many of the bugs that exist in the game. Although, the update isn't entirely empty, the update also adds the new bee mob with several items relating to it and making several Quality of Life changes.

Aside from the performance and bug fixes, what this update will add is listed in the spoilers below:

  • The new bee mob can be found flying around bees nest that can only be found in trees that generate in the flower forest, Plains and Sunflower plains Biomes.
  • They will actively search for flowers and once they find one, they'll circle around it and get covered in pollen. They will proceed to take to their nest to create and store their honey. Although, they'll stop searching for flowers and return to their hive to rest once it's nighttime or when it's raining.
  • In addition to them getting covered in pollen, they'll also drop pollen particles that can be used to pollinate your crops to speed up their growth, however they will only do this when they're covered in pollen. They'll clean themselves up after they make it to the nest.
  • As mentioned before, the bees will store their honey in their nest. When a bee successfully takes their pollen covered bodies to the nest they'll raise the nest's "Honey Level" by 1. The nest has a total of five Honey Levels. Once the nest has reached it's Fifth Honey Level, you can harvest it for honey using a glass bottle (the nest would also look visibly different as well), but be careful as this will anger the bees.
  • You can also harvest the nest for honeycombs by using shears, but much like harvesting honey, this will also anger the bees. Destroying the nest will also anger them.
  • When the bees are angry, they'll charge towards you and sting you with their stinger once their close enough, inflicting you with the poison effect. This attack will, however, make the bee to lose it's stinger causing it to die a minute later.
  • While harvesting from their nest does anger them, there is a work around for this. If you put a campfire under the bee's nest, you can safely harvest from their nest without angering them.
  • There's also a cute Easter Egg where the bee will dance to the other bees in it's hive to let them know it found flowers.
  • Bee hives and nests. It's a bit confusing at first, but to sum it up: Bee nests are the naturally occurring blocks you'll see bees using while the Bee Hives are the artificially made ones that the players can craft and use. Despite their visual difference, they both function the same. they can both produce honey and honeycombs that can be harvested using their respective items. You still need a campfire to safely harvest from the hives, though. Also, both the nest and hive can hold up to three bees at a time.
  • Honey bottles are a new food that can obtained from bee hives and nests. In terms of food items, they're pretty decent (they restore six hunger points and 2.4 saturation). They even cure poison and can used to make sugar! They're also, used to make honey blocks, but I'll get to that later.
  • Honeycombs are the secondary item you can obtain from the hives and nests using shears. Their used to make honeycomb blocks (the block itself is purely decorative) and bee hives.
  • Honey blocks are the block that can be crafted from honey bottles. The block itself is very sticky causing all items and mobs to stay on the block even when pushed by a piston. In addition, you can also slide down the side of the block when you're falling down the side of it and it doesn't stick to slime blocks.
Mojang, from the looks of things as of late, have far moved on from adding mobs that don't offer anything to the game except existing.

As for the "Bees too big" comment, it's been said over and over to counter this: we already have insect mobs that are much larger than they usually are IRL (Spiders, Silverfish, etc) the bee is no exception to this rule, they are merely following the theming of the insect mobs.

Nah. They said they won't be adding any modded content to the game anymore. Although, they do have the original developer of the mod on their developing team.

Ok the nether update looks pretty cool so far but they had to find some way to do something crap it so the new music disk they added is generic modern trailer music by a literally who and I hate it.

Just found out that it was the loser who did the music for Celeste.
This explains everything.

Tbf, C418 is pretty obscure for someone that never heard about Minecraft, but I personally like the track. New collectible music disc is always nice. What about the ambient music she did?

btw, once they hit the pre-release stage I'll do a full summary of what this update will bring

To add to your post, I think instead of just increasing the build limit (arbitrary), Mojang changes the chunk generation to generate vertically and horizontally. The Cubic Chunks mod comes to mind to make that possible (chunk dimensions are 16 x 16 x 16 blocks).

With that change, it would revolutionize the game so much of what you can potentially do in the world so big. Deeper caves systems, finding 3D biomes in those systems, and more creative room to build. (Here is the mod link if you are curious about what it is: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/opencubicchunks)

IIRC the new Nether biomes are actually 3D, so even more groundwork being laid for a future Cave update. Back in the day they experimented with cubic chunks but I think it got dismissed for how resource-intensive it was. Clearly though they found a workaround for 3D biomes that don’t require cubic chunks.

I've been playing the past couple days on the latest snapshot and the new nether biomes are baller. I rolled over my main world to it, and there's random broken nether portals strewn about on the overworld. Netherite is a bitch to try and find, so crafting a full set of armor and tools is pretty tough. This update is way better than 1.14 and 1.15.

I like just how much is going into the Nether update. It feels like something that should have been done a long time ago tbh.
Those soul sand valleys are the devil though, especially if you're starting out in a new world.

They did fix the issue in the latest snapshot. Granted some say they fixed a little too hard making to where the mobs spawn there way less frequently than before.

Well guys, the time has come. The update is nearing it's completion now that it's in it's prerelease phase. Now it's time I fulfill my end of the bargain.

The Nether Update
As you can guess from the name, this update is all about improving the Nether dimension.

In the spoilers below, you'll see the various additions that this update that will bring (although, for the more technical side of things and QoL improvements, I'll link you to the wiki).

  • Four new biomes: The Warped and Crimson forest, Basalt Deltas and Soul Sand Valley. The barren landscape that was the Nether previously has also been made into it's own biome called the "Nether Wastes".
  • Several new blocks that generate within or have some relation to the Nether.
  • Several new items, including a new teir beyond diamond.
  • Five new mobs with two of them being variants of the new mobs.
  • Some new structures.
  • Four new music tracks.
  • A new treasure enchantment.
  • The Crimson forest
    • The fungal forest of the nether
    • Home to the Piglin and Hoglin mobs
    • It's vegetation consist of the Crimson "trees", fungi and weeping vines.
    • The stems of the Crimson trees can be used to make wood related items and blocks, much like the trees in the overworld.
  • The Warped Forest
    • A blue variant of the Crimson forest.
    • Is significantly less dangerous than the rest of the dimension.
    • Has Endermen spawn there.
    • Have an inverted variant of the weeping vines called "twisted vines".
  • Basalt Delta
    • The, once volcanic, landscape of the nether.
    • The new home to the Magma cube mob.
    • Is filled to the brim with basalt and blackstone (more on that in the blocks section).
  • Soul Sand Valley
    • The desert of the nether.
    • It's landscape consist of soul sand, soul soil, basalt and soul fire.
    • Various fossils can be found here as a source of bone blocks.
  • Soul Fire
    • Blue variant of fire that generates in the soul sand valley.
    • It deals more than damage than regular fire (it deals damage at a rate of 2 per second rather than normal fire's usual 1).
    • It also be created manually using starting a fire on soul sand or soul soil.
  • Soul Torch
    • A soul variant of the regular torch that produces less light
  • Soul Lantern
    • Same as the torch variant. Has the same light level as the soul torch.
  • Soul Campfire
    • You know how this goes. Has the same light level as the soul torch.
  • Crimson and Warped Fungi
    • The sapling for the Crimson and Warped trees
  • Crimson and Warped Stems
    • The trunk for the Crimson and Warped Fungi trees. As you can imagine, they function just like the Overworld logs. You can strip them, make bark blocks with them and so on.
    • Unlike the Overworld trees, these trees are, their planks and so on are fire-proof.
  • Crimson and Warped Fungi trees have all their wood variants except boats.
  • Shroomlights
    • Mushrooms that generate in Crimson and Warped forest trees. They exist to produce natural light.
  • Weeping Vines
    • The grow on the roof of crimson forest
    • You can climb them and they can be bone meal'd to increase their length
  • Twisting Vines
    • Same as the weeping vines except they grow from the ground up.
  • There's also the foliage that make up the Warped and Crimson Forest, but their pretty minor so I won't bother mentioning them.
  • Soul Soil doesn't have much of note to bring up it's just a variant of soul sand.
  • Basalt
    • Can be found in the SSVs and the basalt deltas.
    • You can use them to make a polished variant of themselves.
  • Blackstone
    • The stone of the Nether.
    • Can be polished and be used to make it's stone block variants (it's has to be polished first to do this, however). There's also a gilded variant of it that has a chance to drop a gold nugget when broken.
    • Can also be used to make stone tools.
  • Nether Gold Ore
    • Can be mined to produce 1-5 gold nuggets.
    • Can be smelted for a gold ingot.
  • Crying Obsidian
    • An old block brought back and repurposed for the update.
    • Can be obtained through ruined portal strutures, Piglins and Bastion Remnants chest.
    • Can be used to craft the Respawn Anchor.
  • Respawn Anchor
    • The nether's beds.
    • Have to be charged using glowstone blocks (this can be done up to four times).
    • Once charged, right-click it and you'll set your spawn. However, every time you die you lose a charge on the anchor. If it runs out of charges than it powers down and you lose you spawn point.
    • Also, don't use these in the Overworld or The End
  • Ancient Debris
    • Can be smelted into Netherite scrap (although it takes a while to smelted in a normal furnace).
    • Can be found by mining or (rarely) in the bastion remnants.
    • Can be found more commonly at lower altitudes.
  • Target Block
    • A new redstone block that emits a signal when it's hit by a projectile (or by crashing into via the Elytra).
    • The strength of the signal depends on how close the projectile was to the center when it hit.
    • It can also redirect the signal to itself.
  • Lodestone
    • Can be crafted using stone bricks and a netherite ingot.
    • Right-clicking it with a compass sets the compass to it's location, essentially acting as waypoints.
  • Chains
    • Can be found in bastion remnants and can be crafted with two iron nuggets and an iron ingot.
    • The block itself can only be placed vertically.
  • Nether bricks now have chisled and cracked variants.
  • Quartz now have a brick variant.
  • Netherite Scraps
    • When crafted together with gold ingots (four netherite scraps and 1 gold ingot to be exact), you can create netherite ingots.
  • Netherite Ingots
    • When combined with diamond tools, weapons or armor, you can upgrade them into netherite gear.
  • Netherite Gear
    • Currently the strongest tier in the game.
    • They all can't be destroyed by fire or lava.
    • They're overall better than diamond armor stat wise.
    • They also offer you a bit of knockback resistance.
  • Warped Fungus on a stick
    • Can be used to control one of the new nether mobs
    • Functions exactly like the carrot on a stick for pigs.
  • "Pigstep" Music Disc
    • A new music disc that can only be found in the bastion remnants.
  • There's also a new banner pattern relating to the piglins called "Snout".
  • Piglins
    • The humanoid pig natives of the Nether.
    • They usually seen traveling the Crimson forest, Nether wastes and Bastions Remnants.
    • They can be seen wielding Gold swords and Crossbows.
    • Behavior-wise their neutral. They will, however, attack the player as long as they don't have any gold armor on. They also will attack you if you attempt to loot a chest near them.
    • When wearing gold, you can engage with the Piglins by "bartering" with them.
    • To Barter with a Piglin, you need to give them and gold item. In exchange for that gold item, the Piglin will want to give you one many items that have varying degrees of usefulness. (here's the full list of items they will give you and their probabilities).
    • They have a baby variant.
      • The baby Piglins are passive towards the player.
      • They can be found playing with baby Hoglins
      • They also pick up any items they find on the ground (you can then give them any gold item to make them drop it).
    • In addition to attacking the player, Piglins also attack wither skeletons and, sometimes, Hoglins.
    • Also they're afraid of Zombified Piglins, Zoglins, Soul fire, Soul torches, soul lanterns and soul campfires.
  • Zombified Piglins
    • Revamped Zombie Pigmen
    • They spawn naturally throughout the Nether in the Crimson Forest and Nether waste
    • They can also be created by bringing a Piglin into the overworld.
  • Striders
    • The lava boats of the nether.
    • They spawn in all nether biomes on the lava lakes.
    • They drop string on death.
    • They can be ridden with saddles and controlled using the Warped fungus on a stick.
    • They get cold when they're not on lava and they hate water.
  • Hoglins
    • Hostile boars that live in the nether.
    • They spawn in the Crimson forest and rarely in the Bastion Remnants.
    • They can be killed for porkchops.
    • You can breed them with crimson fungi, but they hate warped fungi.
    • In additon to them avoiding warped fungi, they also avoid nether portals and respawn anchors.
    • They are also often seen picking fights with the Piglins.
  • Zoglins
    • Are created by bring a Hoglin into the Overworld.
    • Zoglins are the same as Hoglins, except they will now attack anything that moves except other Zoglins and creepers.
  • Bastion Remnants
    • Home to the Piglins.
    • They generate in the SSV and the Nether Wastes.
    • Have chest that offer loot such as diamond armor and Ancient Debris.
  • Ruined Nether portals
    • Come in small and large variants
    • Can be found in the Overworld and the Nether
    • Are a good source of Crying obsidian and gold items.
  • Soul Speed
    • A new Nether-related enchantment.
    • Nullifies the slow down effect on soul sand and soul soil. Higher levels of the enchantment give the user a speed boost when they're on it.
    • Can be obtained in the bastion remnants and through Piglin bartering.
  • Hoes can now be enchanted with efficiency, silk touch and fortune.
    • In addition, the hoe was given more overall use, but I won't go into that here.
In addition to all of this new content, their also new music tracks composed by the person that did the soundtrack for Celest (Lena Raine, to be more specific).
  • "Rubedo", the new ambient track for the Nether waste.
  • "Chrysopoeia", One the ambient track for the Crimson Forest.
  • "So Below", The Ambient track for the SSV and Basalt Deltas.
  • "Pigstep", The new music track for the game.

And that should be everything that this update will be doing to improve the nether.

Here's the link to the wiki in regards to the QoL and Technical additions & Changes.

I've been playing a lot of Gregtech: New Horizons lately, anybody else played it? It's a turbo-autism pack for 1.7.10 and it's fucking great.

Toobeetooteedotorg is the best Minecraft server, When you hear my name, You know who i am, Everyone knows who i am, It is popbob, And i am always online because i have nothing better to do T.M. , I have autisms. Hausemaster? Want to build a base together? Hausemaster... Hause... Hause... Hause... Hause... Hause...Hause....

I haven't played Minecraft in ages and have only played it on the 360 when it first came out. Thinking about getting it for PC.

I like making farms (agricultural; trees and shit), keeping animals, and hoarding all the shinies. What are some mods you guys reccomend? Pet/animal mods, more plant types, things that display shinies in a pretty way, those kinda things.

Oh, and the redness of the Nether has always murdered my eyes. Did that change or do I gotta mod that, too?

Depends on which version you're talking about 1.12 or 1.14+?
Oh, and the redness of the Nether has always murdered my eyes. Did that change or do I gotta mod that, too?
1.14 and onward they gave the game a massive texture overhaul. The netherrack and such looks a lot less like bloody diarrhea, so you'll be glad to hear that.

1.14 then, because I need that overhaul.

1.14 then, because I need that overhaul.
In that case:

In terms of agricultural stuff I'd recommend Genetic Animals for more things to do with the vanilla animals in terms of farming and Simple Farming for more crops, food and fruit trees. There are few more that may catch your eye though. It's really up to you. There's also the funny Rats mod and Productive Bees.

If we're talking display then there's the Quark mod's glass item frames and Reliquary's pedestals (which also have some neat functions when certain items are placed on them), but those mods also add a bunch of other stuff. If you don't mind that then go ahead, but as I said there are plenty of other alternative mods that might interest you.
