I couldn't really care less about this game other than having a bit of fun watching it bomb, but there's one thing that absolutely pisses me off: The headphones one of the main characters wears all the time. They're clearly Koss Porta Pros (apparently first introduced in 1984, so actually relevant unlike a ton of other things in the game apparently), but they're backwards. RRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE

Also, she doesn't know how to rewind a tape manually. There's a "minigame" that's supposed to consist of using a pencil to rewind a tape. You do not, in fact, rewind the tape. You fast-forward it.

John Carmack didn't even work on Doom 2016, he left iD software in 2014 because that Rage bullshit fucking flopped, nevermind that Zenimax bought iD software in 2009 so anything after that including Rage and Doom 3 BFG edition weren't indie games either. Nevermind that Carmack went to fucking Oculus VR, did basically fucking nothing and then moved onto Keen Technologies in 2022 to do AI shit and still hasn't done anything.

Brings up Hiyao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli getting Disney to do global distribution(they did North American, not global)... except claims that Disney had no influence on anything but that's completely untrue as they completely fucked the English dub for Princess Mononoke by insisting it have a bunch of recognizable Hollywood names instead of just established voice actors and wound up with Gillian Anderson, Jada Pinkett Smith, etc. But as far as the content, why would Disney's distribution have had any impact on works created entirely before Studio Ghibli even fucking existed? He specifically calls out Nausicaa, Laputa, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, all completed before Disney had any involvement in 1996, and even fucks up by bringing up Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind which was done in 1984 before Studio Ghibli even fucking existed and isn't distributed by Disney or Ghibli.

The ultimate kek is the knowledge that no one is actually indigenous to the western hemisphere. Scalper indians (siberian ice bridge crossers) are just as "native" to America as a fucking viking in unnamed nova scotia.

I was referring to north-south since Taika Waititi is from New Zealand, but sure. Point being, if "indigenous" literally means from anywhere then it makes a writers room full of white people just as "indigenous".

However, I have something else I want to bring up, where's the videogame? No seriously, in Mixtape, a supposed videogame, where is the game? Where is all the stuff that makes a videogame, a videogame exactly?

So far as I can tell, based on various youtube videos, this thing is just shitty writing, shitty walking simulator content, a sound/music track with some big names on it and "gameplay" that's an actual joke, since you literally cannot lose, all bundled together into one ridiculously overhyped package that only paid shills give a fuck about.

Given that, why the fuck should I bother giving these faggots my money?

That's the best part of the whole thing. It's not just some people complaining, it's everyone complaining. I know a 40 year old black lesbian that complained about the obviously bullshit 10/10 nonsense this "game" received, how the soundtrack is dumb, it doesn't look like the 90s, all of the anachronistic bullshit, failing to rewind a tape properly, not wearing the headphones right, the bribes the reviewers received, the lack of anything resembling a game, everything.

The general dislike of this shit has nothing to do with culture war crap, just like gamergate 1.0 didn't have anything to do with culture war crap(it was about someone blowing game journos to get good reviews). Polygon wants people to believe it's some culture war shit, because then they'll just cry about being the victims. Don't let polygon/kotaku/ign/aftermath etc trick you into thinking this shit has anything to do with being woke/culture war/whaetever. They fucked up by not making the protagonist a black tranny, and can't fall back on that bullshit to defend themselves against the obvious claims of fraud and bribery.

Might be a slightly off topic but some people earlier in the thread were talking about Due Process, a tactical 5v5 competitive shooter much like Counter Strike in a lot of ways.

Annapurna separated from the dev team because of the “Cops Vs. Robbers” theme the game had going on. The theme was a cyberpunk style military police force raiding terrorists, and this did not go over well during the George Floyd riots. Annapurna tried taking more creative control and required a few changes to the game. For example the attackers could not have black or blue uniforms as that was too “police” like.

Eventually the publisher dropped the dev team, killing the game as they were forced to release in an unfinished state. The dev team was only given about a month to finish the game, with no early warning, and they expected about another year to work on the game. The team disbanded shortly after the forced early release. I thought Annapurna had scrubbed all evidence of the game from their brand image.

After this occurred, Annapurna only publishes art house games. I’m not surprised at all to hear of a connection to Larry Ellison.
I've wondered about that, thanks. Is the whole story around the Due Process situation broken down somewhere? Did ex-devs spill all these details?

I doubt there is. I’d be happy to share more if there was interest in its own thread or DMs if you want. I doubt others want to read about me sperging about a failed indie FPS.

On mixtape: I didn’t know Ellison’s daughter was a failed Hollywood producer, but it’s starting to make sense about what type of games they publish. I guess she wanted to make movies whether that was sold in theaters or on steam.
