Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

There seems to be an increase of sites where there's a JS-based popup (so not an actual new window) that says "by using this site you agree to the use of cookies and that you accept the Terms of Use" (and site TOS almost invariably try to block "Fair Use")...

It lets me know that I'm watching a PBS clip.
wat

Is PBS considered "wrongthink" now?

There seems to be a lack of April 1st jokes today, unlike before.

All I could find is the "Did You Know" list on Wikipedia.

(also the featured article today is "The Boring Lava Field")

Probably because humourless web2.0 faggots do nothing but whine about April Fools Day pranks.
It's always the same, they inevitably fall for the obvious prank and then get mad about it when it's revealed as such because they're incapable of laughing at themselves.
This dumb cunt is a great example of what I was talking about. Or this one. There's millions of them.
I remember waaaay back in the 00's a website I frequented said they were getting rid of users ability to type the the letter E in comments because it's the most frequently used letter in the English language and by removing it they would save bandwidth, you could however pay a premium to retain your E privileges. People. Were. Pissed. Furious, even. Over the most obvious joke on the internet.

IIRC someone in the KF chat once said that they've never heard SJWs and pro-copyright fanatics (and maybe some other kinds of "no fun allowed" types) ever genuinely laugh.
You hear them laugh now, but it's over jokes with words in it like "heckin" and deep fried pictures of spongebob. I have a negative reaction to the word heckin' now just on how pervasive it is on social media. Just swear.

no humor is allowed in the wonderful internet paradise of today
I miss when the internet wasn't so communist.

Fandom/f.Wikia is worse off than I remembered
Fandom is now overly prudish*, overly dependent on JavaScript to show, has too many ads, auto-converts all images to WEBP, and needs the latest browsers to run correctly.

*(at least with non-woke stuff)

websites not doing april fools jokes anymore
I don't think even reddit did an april fools this year; if they did then it was so lackluster that it fizzled out quietly with no press or public awareness.
Google used to be one of the big guys who still did april fools, but they cancelled that tradition in 2020 because they wanted "employees to contribute to relief efforts instead.". Not sure how you can divert prank energy into stopping an already out of control disease, but what do I know?
According to an internal email obtained by Business Insider, Google will “take the year off from that tradition out of respect for all those fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Our highest goal right now is to be helpful to people, so let’s save the jokes for next April, which will undoubtedly be a whole lot brighter than this one.”

I'm not sure if it counts a modern, but I'm going to complain anyway. Project Gutenberg. For whatever reason, they don't allow you to browse an index beyond 1000 results, which means that there are potentially thousands of stories that I can't access. Normally it wouldn't be too much of a problem, but I've been trying to find one particular scifi short story that just isn't accessible any more, no matter how I sort the indexes. I don't remember enough details to find it with a search, either.

If you search on at least Google for something on KF without using "site:kiwifarms.net"*, you may not get results from Kiwi Farms, but instead "related" articles from MSM news sources about how this place is a "hate site" or the like.

*(for example "when did Current Year begin Kiwi Farms")

At this point search engines are so unusably shit that I wouldn't even be surprised if this was accidental.
