Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
talk exactly like that all the time.
I think I've noticed that.

Dunno if it's a trend, and it doesn't make me REEE, but from what I've seen it seems articles written by people with Indian-sounding names explaining stuff always read like something written by an AI. Maybe the "AI-ish" ones I read really had AI as a "ghostwriter"?

I logged back on to my old Yahoo account and rediscovered that they deleted all my old emails.

Some of my most ancient Internet correspondence with half or completely forgotten friends and crushes back in those sunlit antediluvian days, My old joys and fears. Nervous dread and awkward exchanges. Mundane childhood disappointments and triumphs Dust. Gone. Not just for me but perhaps millions of others. All because some shithead Yahoo executive.

I found this out a couple years before but had somehow forgotten. Probably repressing it in the meantime.

So I got to experience another moment of sinking shock followed by a night of boiling rage and wanting to break my computer or better yet throttle my messages out of whoever was responsible. Congratulations Yahoo. I've hated a lot of corporations but you've managed to piss me off in a way I don't think any other corporation has ever done.

They tend to write like that because so much of their training data is from pajeets, who as you have probably noticed, if you spend enough time listening to them, talk exactly like that all the time.
Poos and pajeets gaining access to the web is one of the worst things to ever happen to the internet. Literally every single top search result, youtube video or whatever else is stuff made by some poos hoping to leech as much money as they possibly can. I swear it's like as soon as they sniff out a new community they come in and astroturf it so badly that I think it ends up killing it.

Was using a "smartphone" to take pictures. After accidentally deleting a chunk of photos, I tried 2 file recovery "apps" -- both constantly advertising to me -- to try and recover them. All both "apps" detected were photos already there. So I had to re-create the photos I lost, and deleted those "apps". Using Current Year "smartphone" sucks.

BTW I still use a landline as the go-to way to call.

I know/have known chill ones it's less the people themselves more the MLM Scam bastards from those areas branching out their tendrils further using ai translators.

speaking of scams, every time I use an image search engine after the first few results most ofthe image results are hijacked algorithmically by some weird possible scam sites that all copy/paste the first few lines of the page the orignal image showed upon with "45% off" or 50% off" next to them. due to how fucked layout navigation on search is these days I somehow accidentally opened it without double clicking on one and thank god it just insta-blocked the site giving an error saying it wasn't a secure/complete one. My guess is it's like the left over of one of the scams that shut dow their domain and moved to another.

What is this bullshit

Thanks, I knew it was blocking due to the use of a VPN. I was asking the question more rhetorically.
Yeah fair sorry, I'm retarded lmao.

It's fucking unbelievable locking an entire forum based site, even from just viewing, behind "gib us your real IP you can trust us PaRdNeR". No argument of "but we must stop AI/bots/scanners" or any other angle justifies it. The funniest thing is they must have somehow completely forgotten they have an onion site set up for it which still works anyways, well done preddit you spastics great job blocking off the very evil VPN chuds.

I had no idea they had an onion site. I guess it's left over from the good old days when tech bros all thought they were saving the world.

Try using a RedLib instance. It's the replacement for the LibReddit frontend so you can bypass any VPN check and it strips out the tracking. It's a pain on mobile, but it's easy enough to use something like LibRedirect to do it automatically for you.

In December 2023 I was looking for instructions for a Nokia phone I had and when searching through the official Nokia website, I stumble upon this and keep in mind they are still up as of today.

Why Discord? Nokia is a big company, they have no excuses to maintain a server for a community page. I don't use Nokia anymore but what worries me is that other major companies might follow the same path, whoever thought this was a good idea should have their brain checked for holes.

I've been a long-term Nokia user but honestly this is one more reason for my next phone to be something else.

As to my own Modern Web Woes this week, has anyone seen the abomination that is YouTube's new UI? Squashing comments up out of the way. I need YouTube content makes to start uploading their material to rival platforms as well.

I don't use social media. The only online account I ever had was a Facebook profile that I made all the way back in 2010 to watch then-exclusive videos from Jogwheel, back when Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This? was at it's peak. All I use it for now is Messenger, where I post in a single group chat with the boys.

I decided to try logging in today only to find out that it will accent my password for Messenger, but not for Facebook itself. I decide to reset my password, only to get told that the service is unavailable, and that I can't log in to "avoid spam" or some shit. I use a six-digit log-in code instead, and get blocked from logging in again because it's my first time logging in from my new laptop, and that's suspicious. It asks me to log in on a second device that I've used Facebook on before to confirm that it's really me. The problem is, the last device I actually logged into Facebook on is ancient history. Facebook's response: "We just can't let you log in, then."

I just wanted to call someone I know a faggot. Can't even give my info to Zuck if I wanted to now. I'm not giving out my ID for a new account.

I lied, I also have a Twitter account, but all I do with it is look at pictures of Possums.

Never signed up for any "social media". When it first took off, it seemed like an annoying fad. Now "social media culture" seems to be driving the "culture war" insanity.

"We just can't let you log in, then."
Once I was locked out of a Yahoo! email account, and I couldn't get in because I forgot the answer to the "secret question" the service insisted I answer to log in. Yahoo! "customer support" online was useless, with one of the options being "ask the community" (read: post on Yahoo! Answers). Phone service was even more useless: on hold for what seemed like hours, only to have call dropped.

(Eventually I was just able to log in somehow.)
