Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Wasn't waterfox bought by an ad company? I used to use the legacy looking version cause of nostalgia reasons but if you wanna future proof you should probably use something like LibreWolf (Firefox with better configs and uBlock by default)
I didn't know that. Fuck, I was starting to like the browser.

Well, I might use that browser in the future, thanks.

I use chromium for my normie browser needs(Librewolf for everything else) when I am playing stupid games with my friends or whatever. If I want to keep using it without ads I'm now going to have to side load. I *could* side load ublock origin but why would I take the effort to do that when I can use ad nauseam for the same amount of effort? For those who don't know ad nauseam cost google so much money they broke the add-on ages ago and made it necessary to side load it. It blocks the ads and generates fake clicks on them which means google charges the adsense advertisers for clicks that do nothing, in the end google had to give a load of money back. Fuck you google I'm now on a mission to cost you so much fucking money.

Will you be able to load it as a dev plugin and keep using it on Brave like you can with AdNauseum? Is it even an issue on Brave?

I really can't stand Firefox tbh. Tried to switch to it a few times already and I always give up for one reason or another.

What should I use instead? Sorry for the spoon feeding request but you guys are the only people I trust for this kind of thing.
I'd recommend either Brave or Firefox. Personally, I use Falkon and I can cover pretty much my needs, OOB adblocker and other goodies, though it doesn't have that many extensions like the former two.

Ended up getting Librewolf and BitWarden. Happy with both so far, I just wish I could use the forced dark mode thingy I have on google Chrome from their experimental settings.

You can disable clearing cookies on exit if you really want to, then on individual sites you can set the theme if they have that option. There's also a fuck load of extensions that will force websites to use dark mode if you want that as well.

uBlock Origin Lite is a Manifest V3 compliant version of the ad blocker. I have it on Brave and it only borked up once this year, which just required a restart after a patch was rolled out 24 hours later.

The main differences I can find from 10 seconds in google is:

I think, at best, it's a stopgap, but it's a functional stopgap. AdNauseum might be the ultimate play.

Weirdly, Asmongold had a pro-adblock pro-ad agency take - that it's in both parties' best interest because the adblocker being forced into the ad pool devalues the cost per impression ad buy.

DarkReader will help you here. Also heads up for LibreWolf, if you care about this sort of stuff they're getting all bent out of shape about CoC, general tranny faggotry and politics (muh master branch, also here is a forum post about it). I've moved to Mullvads browser for my daily driver and it's been pretty solid, LibreWolf is staying as a backup for now until Ladybird is ready for regular use. As for the password manager, Bitwarden is a great choice. If you need something else to backup your MFA secrets look into Aegis, or yubikeys

I sincerely hope this backfires in the worst possible way and the news articles draw normie attention to ad-blockers. The amount of boomers I've met in the last 20 years who had no idea it's even possible to hide ads is depressing.

Another useful feature of uBlock if you can be bothered to wrestle with it is the 'block element' feature. It means if for some reason an ad is still appearing (or anything else intrusive like banners etc) you can block the html element and it won't appear again. I use it sometimes when Reddit is being a cunt and trying to make me log in.

Also strongly recommend installing Brave on your phone, that way you can access YouTube without fifty million ads.

That must be nice. My experience doing this shit is that switching away means enduring weeks of "Why is my internet gone? Yeah the green thing with the dot in the middle, it looks like a dishwasher tablet. I want it back, I need the internet to check my email right now!"

I hope Google fucking burns in hell and all that of course, I just don't think any of this is going to hit them back in any meaningful way. They've gotten away with much worse shit.
I've had a lot of success switching friends and family to Brave. It works just like Chrome and they all like how it tells them the time they've saved from skipping ads.

Used to use ungoogled-chromium for years, with the rollout of Manifest v3 figured I'd try Brave. It is quite nice so far. Turned off most of the Brave Shields features except for strict HTTPS, fingerprinting block and cookies blocking, as I'd rather just use uBlock Origin with my previous custom filters. With this setup the advertisement blocking works pretty much flawlessly.

Main (autistic) issues I've had with Brave so far is the initial setup, where I had to go through all the settings and turn off all the needless shit pertaining to all the crypto, their Leo AI and other random things like advertisements on the dashboard, and few difficulties with the UI customization: the orange Shill Lion Brave Shields button in the address bar cannot be turned off, when searching for a way to turn it off I encountered a Brave employee closing the issue by telling people to fuck off, as it is a "part of our product brand" which is pretty gay if you ask me. Thankfully another user made a nice little video on how to "kill that stupid shill lion in the top right" according to his own words.

Other than that I can fully recommend, especially if you're switching from any chromium based browser. Next one I might try in the future is the Mullvad Browser, which advertises itself as Tor like browser for browsing the clearnet. I already use their VPN and love it, so I'd imagine that the browser is also pretty good.
