Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

Too young to remember when devs went out of their way to break shit if you weren't using internet explorer?
Nah, I've been using the 'nets since the late '90s. Sites only running on Internet Exploder must've been far rarer. I never used a site not fully working on other browsers.*

* Except for a site I wrote which I made using Micro$oft Word and then fixed by re-writing it in Notepad. The Word version injected all this extra code to do the same thing.

Here's a real tech tip

If you use an extension to change your user agent to some random text, Google will display a minimal cut down version without their dog shit AI features that loads in like 0.2ms

You can also append &udm=14 to any Google search URL, using a redirection extension like Redirector, and avoid the A.I. garbage.

You should be using a different search engine anyway.

Interesting that it uses the 2010 design for the search page but the mobile design for the search results page. Now when can they go back to the whole Kennedy design for all their shit?

was the old 'net chuddy or leftist?
It had a bit of both. Back then the left was slightly more chuddy, and the chuds were slightly more leftist.
Overall the internets were more centrist. Clown World has polarized politics.

There's also these posts by anons in the archive that seem to sum it up well:

Nah, old web was more libertarian or even anarchist.
That's how I would describe it. Imagine what a room full of weird/autistic/antisocial/spazzy 14-35 year old white men would look like. It would be fairly anti-establishment, high freedom, high rationalism. That looks more libertarian, anarchist than anything else and that's how it was. It only looks "leftist" to some because they were critical of establishment powers like Bush and Christians. But there was literally no such thing as idpol on the early internet, in fact "no labels" was the meta. Some may also not realize how similar Democrats/Republicans were at the time so the distinction wasn't novel.

What the fuck is this fucking reddit bullshit
He miswrote "vibe coding" which is the act of having neural network nonsense such as ChatGPT vomit forth a program or fragment thereof. Such code is typically used untrusted, and is part of the reason why we'll see a lot more interesting bullshit in the future.

well you see vive is spanish for lives and coded is slang for something resembling a real life thing like autism coded and is clearly trying to illustrate the fact that back in 2009, hobby lobby tried to smuggle various clay tablets and bullae looted in iraq for their own evangelical museum of the bible which the company that owns hobby lobby also owns.

On-hover menus. So many websites have them. You wanted to click on something on the page after switching to its tab? Too bad! As you were moving your mouse toward there you went over the header navbar and now there is a random menu link instead of what you wanted. Bonus points if it has a fade-out so it is not enough to just move your mouse to the bottom to get rid of the menu, but you also have to wait there for a second to prevent the menu from refreshing and having to move away again.

Ebay is falling apart. It is not an american company or website at this point. It is entirely Pajeet. Operated by Pajeets, programmed by Pajeets, and only usable by people trying to sell Alybaba merchandise to americans and europeans. They make you dox yourself to sell on the Ebay now. They take out sales tax automatically at checkout. I remember decades ago when this didn't happen and they never charged sales tax. They also apply their category fee to the total sum paid by the buyer and not just the price the item sold for. That means that shipping, even when the buyer pays, and tax are part of the total that Ebay uses to apply their percent fee for selling on their garbage site. If you sell to a far customer and or a customer who lives in a high tax county, then you get to be charged more for selling on Ebay though no fault of your own. It must have been programmed by people with 75 IQ scores. The website is slower than any other website I've used recently. The search page will load, and then freeze after all the results populate in. It's boarderline unusable. They keep attacking you and demanding that you "THE APP", which I will not do because it will be equally just as shit and horrible to use. The app will just be a website in a webkit widget, so no different from the desktop version, because that's how all cross platform apps are written these days. So their insists are just a way for them to spy on your cell phone activity. It is hell. I have never had a good exprience using Ebay and it's absolutely worse now than before.
