Lmao Conan the Barbarian?
Ghostface?
Homelander and Omniman?
Ermac, Jade and Quan chi as DLC?

If this isn't an argument for letting franchises die I dunno what is. Eventually everything becomes a parody of itself, if not an outright joke, if you let it go on long enough.

I personally prefer his MKX design way more honestly. He's probably not gonna be a kino man in this either, tho I'm still happy to see him back.
I like his thicker frame seen in 10 (a little bit in the artwork for the Vita game) but his more ninja like outfit he had in MK Special Forces and the Vita game. Though I wasn't a fan of him just being another Black Dragon character. There's too many of them now.

I actually didn't mind that aspect of gaming which started in the 90s. Since is was X vs Y. But when you make a game specifically for X, but a third of it's roster is Y... what is the fucking point?
When the media industry cares too much about fanfiction as the main selling point, then of course it's time to move on to something else

I thought MvC3 was decent and I liked it better than the one before it, but then Infinite was the Avengers show, I tapped out. Couldn't give less of a fuck about cross overs now.

Lol, Anthony Starr won't voice Homelander for MK 1.

You keep hitting these fucking home runs Netherealm!
I wonder why. Money? Scheduling conflict? Some union/guild thing? Did they just not contact him?

And also, did JK Simmons voice Omniman?

That's what is strange about it. Ed was being enthusiastic about Megan and Simmons being in the game, never mentioned Anthony in any way shape or form.

Well, this is a weird one - at least on PC, MK11 has a higher player count than MK1. That feels weird for a fighting game - they usually die when the sequel comes out, barring a small community.

While I’m not sure if there were any recent sales for MK11 - knowing Steam, there probably was - but if that trend applies to console players as well, then I think they’re fucked.
I certainly hope so. It does seem like MK11 was at level ten with these retards for years and years while MK1 lost it's hype within the same month with the incessant ads AIDS.

I think this franchise is the definition of diminishing returns with the mainstream. What I mean are two things, one- Mortal Kombat isnt a niche series with a niche fanbase, it was a big niche series with a big niche fanbase but it was still niche given how most people usually looked down on its darker tone and violent imagery. After MK9, there was this slow but steady process of mainstream-fication of this franchise. Higher budgets led to higher executive interference and need to satisfy a wider fanbase. Two - Mortal Kombat's main gimmick, its violence, just isnt shocking anymore. We live in the age where kids are exposed to horrific imagery pretty early thanks to the internet and a thus MK is forced to become more brutal to the point it almost lose some of its campy nature and it comes off more like a snuff film or goreleak video.

There is also the fact that MK did alienate a lot of its veteran fanbase in my opinion. Neatherealms doesnt seem that found of the Midway era games (MK1 -Armaggedon) so all of their MK games have been about remixing what came before or outright erasing it with a clean slate (using a lot of time travel and now multiverses shinenigans that usually kill tension in stories). Dont get me wrong on the changes to the characters, in both behavior and designs (you know what Im refering to).

MK1 is one of the safest games I have ever seen. It takes no risks in its storytelling, designs, climax (literally an Endgame type where the good and bad side clash...which only works if you give a shit about both sides, like in Endgame and LoTR, which this aint). The guest fighters have devolved into fanservice now with Omniman, Homelander and fucking Peacemaker (you can argue they are doing the anti-hero/villain theme but I think thats giving them far too much credit), no theme in the guests anymore and they are just there because they are the "trend" characters at the moment.

And maybe its a pet peeve of mine but the fact that they removed the 1;2;1 banter and devolved them into just a 1;2 which just reduces the creative opportunities and it oddly reeks of either rushed development and/or fixing what isnt broken.
Shouldve just brought back Jason Vorhees since they made him feel pretty good in X, feels like a waste to use these IPs once. Thought it is obviously to justify another purchase on top of your 70 dollar game

Jason fit very well in the darker gritty asthetic of MKX. MK1 is too "clean and colorful" for him to fit as well.

It was cooler when it was done by passionate fans of both ips. There are small details in classic MvC games and its kind that you can only know and appreciate it if you played the games the characters came from. And most of them are hard to spot without slow mo even so it makes me feel this was done for the devs themselves because they just cared that much.

Nowadays its just references because "he did/said the thing!" moments. Most of omni-man in MK1 is him doing constant references to Invincible, which, yeah, I get it but everything he does is ripped straight from it, there isnt a level of creativity behind it.

It's nepotism that's tailor made for redditors

Who thought giving Megan Fox a voice acting job was a good idea?

I didn't know they brought back Nitara, that's actually interesting even though I'm sure she's completely underutilized. She had a ton of potential as a character but her story was kind of finished in the same game she first appeared in so... yeah, not really surprised they didn't really do much with her after that. But honestly she along with Taven and Onaga were three of the characters I wanted to see most again.

Something I notice about the newer games is that they really dont know what to do with the 3D era characters, outside of Kenshi that is. Most of them are reduced to cameos, references or, on the rare instances they are playable, they tend to barely resemble their OG selves, instead being for a "NR" take on them instead of being the character as they were.

Its like they struggle between pleasing veterans by bringing older characters back but, at the same time, dont want to alienate newcomers by having to force them to learn much of who they were in previous appearances. It all returns to MK's identity crisis, especially if a franchise has gone as long as it did (and its custodians arent interested in keeping its integrity).

I can understand bringing in Homelander and Omni-Man, but they'd be more fitting for Injustice 3, considering that lore-wise, they could demolish most of the Kast with a single punch. But Omni-Man or Homelander being face-to-face with Superman or Black Adam, now that's actually a fair fight.

Of course, the obvious reason is the gore. Invincible and the Boys is chock full of gore, but you can't do it for Injustice or you'd lose the T for Teen rating, even though that rating's useless since most comic fans who like these characters are adults, and most folks who play these games are MK fans anyways.

How come all the guest characters in every MK game have been cismale? Is it because NRS are Nazis?
Called it!
