Mileena was always a little fruity but as far as her being a chink? No idea. In addition to making her ugly as fuck, she now looks vaguely Asian for some reason. Kitana and her looked really fucking weird in 11 and now they just straight up have man faces. Oh but wait, she was "always supposed to be ugly" so it's fine.

I'm ready to have the worst take in this thread but I feel MK hasn't had an interesting character since Quan Chi in 4. If I was made the MK dictator, I would basically make the new game MK trilogy with a few things from for 4 sprinkled in, hell, I'm not so sure I would include Shinnok, I remember playing the game when it came out when I was like 10 and thinking "this guy sucks" even back then.
The other thing is forgetting everything about the 3d era. I know, hot take again. Maybe its because I never played those games when they were new, so I don't have any nostalgia for them. I feel like everything after 4 is when they just started to throw shit at the wall and see what sticked, even 4 itself at a lot of that too. With how many plot threads it introduced and outright abandoned the following game, like Kai or the Kano stand in. Afaik, those still haven't been resolved 25 years later.
Again, I remember being completely disinterested when the 3D era games came out. Are you really going to compare Darrius to Scorpion or Sonya? What the fuck is a Brahmin??? I think there are a lot of similarities with the situation MK finds itself today and Star Wars. Star Wars can't really move on from Empire because that's where all the cool lore and characters peaked, there's not much after that and they're still playing catch up 40 years later or whatever. I feel like this is the situation MK finds itself too right now, everything cool about the franchise was pretty much cemented by the second game and they've been trying to capture that same feeling ever since, getting somewhat close with a few aspects with the 3D games, and completely going off the rails with the woke shit, to the point where I fear MK is going the Halo route soon, where the publisher doesn't really know what to do with the disaster the game has become and then just quietly abandons it.
TLDR - Just make the new MK game MK trilogy, remove all the characters that aren't from that era, keep Quan Chi and have them look appealing again, not starved out, malaria ridden, ugly refugees that nobody wants to play as.

Tbf when he first showed up in Mythologies, his first official appearance, he was extremely lame.
Pictured here, looking like a pastor from Hyrule or something. Shinnok has never been cool. MKX tried but dropped the ball because the Cage family literally kicked his ass with the glowing power of love. And he already looked like a malnourished court jester.
Quan Chi, who actually showed up in the shitty cartoon first where he was a cringe wizard who put some sort of stupid curse on the cast so their worst qualities would take precedence, thus creating conflict between each other, actually managed to recover with Mythologies and all the way to X where Sonya fucked him over.
I could do without the writers having to butcher Shang Tsung for him in MK9 but that's beside the point.
I think you will come to find it that most people or at least the normie MK fans will be very split on the 3D era. Some like it, and a lot hate it.
I personally am indifferent. I didn't grow up with it and I will admit some of the experiments were kinda lame, a chunk of the characters were even lamer but they had their stupid charm.
Besides I do miss the addition of minigames the older games had. I will give props to MK9 for that.
Sure MK1 has Invasion and MK11 has the expanded Krypt and if you wanna be generous, MKX has the Living Towers but those are kinda lame as they are online only.
But a lot of them don't really feel like silly fun modes to play on the side when you're done beating someone's face in.
Regarding the characters, a lot are kinda hit or miss. The only one most normie fans like is Kenshi. I personally wouldn't mind if they brought the lot of them back; they just have to do something right with them.
I will say MK finds itself in a very weird spot. On the one hand, they are doing the multiverse timeline MCU shit so they can just scrap this timeline and make MK13 set in idk, fucking Wuxia movie sci-fi Narnia or whatever where Sonya is the White Witch, and Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Shinnok, and Shao Kahn are the kids going through the wardrobe.
Infinite possibilities and all that.
On the other hand, with the multiple timeline nonsense, everything feels inconsequential now to the point where there's no reason to get invested. MK11 peaked and it was way too soon for a new reboot so like nothing feels like it matters.
So I almost want them to stop. Or, again, just hand the IP to the Japanese. Arc Systems and hope they won't turn another character into a tranny.
I would almost sign on to this. I do want them to keep some of the characters and tweak them so they don't get ruined. Or at least do something with them so they are worth something.
I hate to sound like a Redditor but technically it's only been two. Although to be fair, number two heavily leaned itself into a third when it established a giant stream of timelines so we can reboot ad infinitum, which is horrifying.
I watched some footage of MK1 and IMO, the UI is fucking ugly. You know what is also ugly? Bi-Han's characterization in MK1. In broad strokes, I actually really hate how they wrote him. We hardly got any Pre-death Bi-Han in any era with the best being the very first game, the first chapters of MK9 and Mythologies. We don't get anything with the two brother interacting aside from like one page in one comic.
So a lot could be done with what we got because it showed Bi-Han's inner turmoil regarding the endless killing over the years and the corruption of his soul. And the games were written with Kuai Liang wanting revenge for his brother's death.
Yeah, it's barebones but it adds a little more than MK1 where he's just bitch-han-ing all over the place, whining about Liu Kang and being a douche to his brother who's supposed to be hurt by his betrayal.

Ah, fair enough. I guess I just counted MK11 as an end to the new trilogy.
Bi-Han is the Sub-Zero from the first game, Mythologies, MK9 before he gets killed by Scorpion, and is currently Sub-Zero in MK1. He's also Noob Saibot, the black ninja.
All this timeline and new era talk just made me remember how a good chunk of characters were fucking butchered by fanfic-tier writing in MK1, hence my earlier rant.

MKX - Shinnok = Elder God, all realms are threatened by him, still somewhat reasonable but powercreep starts here
MK11 - Kronika = Titan (more powerful than Elder Gods), all of time is threatened
MK1 - Deadly Alliance and their army of evil doppelgangers = Everyone is a fucking Titan, every timeline and branching universe is threatened
MK9 - Shao Khan = reasonable final enemy, Earthrealm is threatened

The weird thing about MK11 that no one seems to talk about is that they race swapped half the female characters: Kitana, Mileena and Sindel are suddenly Asian now and Jade looks Saudi Arabian or Indian despite the fact that they never looked like that in the previous games and Tanya looked like she was Egyptian or Medditerrian in MKX before they raceswapped her into a fucking ugly nigger in MK1. I don't think any of the male characters were race swapped from what I remember.

Which is why the plot of MK feels like it might as well not exist. Considering the effort, NRS puts into their story modes, you'd think they wouldn't fall into the trap of making their stories feel inconsequential.

I think it's been debated back and fourth in this thread, including how no one can agree on Tanya was black in MK4 or not. Kitana has kinda flip-flopped between ambiguous and Asian in other non-game material even in the Midawy days. Now Sindel, that I agree with. That was pretty dumb.
You think Mileena got it back when she was chinked? One of the new movies turned her into a nigress with period blood smeared all over her face.
Jade is...well she has always been ambiguously tan so for all we know she could have been Saudi Arabian. I am far more offended by her shitty British accent.
