Thomas Edison was a savvy businessman and inventor who founded a major company that still exists to this day: now operating as General Electric Aerospace. His very real accomplishments literally embody American exceptionalism.
Hating on him is the ultimate midwit take, typically given by people vaguely familiar with his rivalry with Tesla (which didn't even directly involve Tesla. The rivalry was Edison v. Westinghouse).
Tesla was absolutely a brilliant inventor who kinda got shafted. But he did have a habit of overstating his inventions and basically half the shit people credit him for he never even fucking claimed to do.

I don't think anyone ever claimed Edison was a nice guy. This is a thread about people who are overrated, not people who are assholes.
Edison hate, as I said, is a very standard midwit take. It's hard to say anything positive about the guy without some fucking Redditor jumping in to dump on the reputation he rightfully earned. If anything, he's underrated in the modern day because of how prevalent apocryphal myths about electrocuting elephants have become.
