this may actually be worse than renaming Gypsy

Keep your old tapes.
Watch them go back and dub over her voice in Season 1-10 because she was voiced by a man (despite the fact their was a in-show reason why she sounded like that).

Tyranny of the minority is still tyranny but they don't see themselves as the baddies.

I have bad news. Seen on the patreon channel about what to vote on for the next Turkey Thursday of rifftrax.

Hey, wait a second.

I’m certainly not the only one here that actively follows Rifftrax, right? Have any of you seen them mention “updated riffs” outside of the live show stuff? I certainly haven’t.

It’d really be a goddamn disgrace if they’ve been doing this silently for a while and updating the files to remove “outdated” lines without mentioning a thing.

I'm pretty sure I have the Avatar on a pre-compiled format. I'm almost afraid to compare that to a new download of it.

Recently re-watched 814 Riding with Death, featuring the "Elusive Robert Denby". So elusive that Denby has a restraining order (!!) against William Sylvester for harassing him and Ben Murphy finds (and gets employed by him) immediately.

But the kicker is that in every scene the "elusive" Denby is wearing a big-ass name tag

He's the least elusive villain in all of television movie true and honest cinema!

Keep your old tapes.
MST3k VHS rips have been my warm 90s refuge from the horrors of CURRENT_YEAR. Mike will have to rip them out of my cold, dead hands.

If they do start 'updating' their riffs I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Corbett is behind it. I remember in an interview once he was hand wringing about the fat jokes they made about Joe Don Baker in MST3K.
ooh, a fresh new reason to hate Bill?

You know, the old debate back when MST3k was peak was Joel vs. Mike fans (I was Team Mike naturally). I think the way the reboot turned out, despite it being Joel's IP, is that Mike really was the reason it was good even in the early days, and it suffers without his writing talent.

I liked Rifftrax for awhile. It was great to see Mike and friends do current movies that absolutely deserved it when before we were stuck whatever comedy central or Sci Fi could get the rights for. But getting political due to lib dogpiling makes it gay and unfunny. Mike of all people ought to know better, he was supposed to be a conservative.

In the old days, they made it a point not to get political. Other than Mike being pretty open about being a Republican, it wasn't clear what the other two were and I think it was better that way.

I bought actual, honest-to-goodness MST3K VHS tapes from a tape trader way back when. The person printed custom labels and everything. Ah, those Member Berries...

While this could be attributed to Bill (as he isn't that funny and desperate for the Hollywood kudos), I could see this being a Conor Lastowka thing. He's the one who shoehorns in the bad videos games and Gamergate jokes... and probably a majority of the clunkers in general. Mike will occasionally rip on Conor for his video game obsession in their podcast about crappy books, 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back. Despite Conor being a bit of a try-hard, the podcast is worth a listen for a mostly-unfiltered Mike.

my biggest issues with the reboot were
a) they sound waaaaay too damn similar
b) the "somebody visits the satellite" becomes astoundingly un-funny when it's not not framed on the basic gag of the hexfield viewscreen which totally isn't somebody just standing up there
c) they didn't record and write together week after week for years on end
obviously the last issue is probably the hardest to overcome in a short while, but that daily grind put a real rapport amongst the Brains that made each transition a lot more palatable, as the new ones on-screen had already been behind the scenes for a while and had a lot of time to feel things out

So when are they going to remove all the jokes about Mr. B Natural's gender and sexuality? Or are they just not going to re-release one of their best-known riffs? I wouldn't put either one past them.

Wasn't the reboot attempting to do unscripted riffing at one point? That is really hit or miss, takes a real talent to do that on the fly for multiple episodes (and not just a live event or two). Seasons 0 and 1 of MST3k are really rough in part because of this.

No, if anything you could argue that the reboot was too scripted, at least in the first season. During the touring days of Cinematic Titanic, Joel said that they made more of an effort to not riff over the movie’s dialogue. He brought this over to the new MST3K and there are times in the first season when it feels like they are cramming as many jokes as they can between lines from the movie. I think they relaxed the pace for the second season, making it feel more natural.

Yeah Jonah once talked about that in this panel.

afaik season one was scripted, iirc one of the reasons cited about friction between Josh and the others was that he wanted to ad lib more
and at least some of the KTMA stuff was too, or, at least sometimes somebody watched the movie once or twice before recording, like The Legend Of Dinosaurs where they say a line along with the movie.
