I'm a bit out of the loop, but I believe it has to be JP version 1.0 because I was watching some other run and the runner said the price of those cartridges would go up. Maybe it was something else because I saw it a few days ago but I think it's related to this route. Since he mentioned version 1.0, I'm going to guess it doesn't work in other versions and it would be possible that NA or JP 1.1 have different ways to deal with menus. Surely someone here knows better than me, I never even played this game. God why do I even watch this shit
I CTRL+F'd "menu" and didn't find anything relevant.

EDIT: Didn't see the newer posts.

I've never been involved with this scene so I'm curious; how could they possibly prove someone had looked up the values beforehand or even notched their controller necessarily?

Unless Narc admitted to it how could you prove they looked up values on a testing tool?

Legit baffled why anyone is still playing this twenty years later. OoT has aged less like a mature cheese and more like a yellow square from McDonalds.
They can't really enforce a rule against it which is why these runs will most likely be approved. They could make you film your controllers the whole run, but I doubt they'd go that route.

Emulator runs, per SDA rules? That would be pretty shocking. That and splicing is like doping to them. Automatic DQ. They had to wipe out Mike89's Sonic 2 records because it was determined he did them on GenS. Summoning Salt went over this. I know TG absolutely won't accept emu submissions. See, Billy Mitchell.

Then again, I don't follow speedrunning as close as I used to.
SDA has not been relevant in years, speedrunning is run out of speedrun.com now, and each community sets its own standards.

Oh, dude. 8-bit shit is still run regularly and competitively. Even if just for PBs. The current WR for the original NES Zelda is less than five years old.

I just checked and SDA still has Cosmo's 18:10 as the world record.

I would argue 8-bit shit has mostly aged better than N64/PS1 era shit that was in full 3d.

Okay, but they're talking about pluging the controller into port 3. That certainly seems like they're still mandating real hardware, doesn't it?

16-bit shit might have but I'd fight you on 8-bit. So much of it is garbage, N64 games just look terrible and have mindless tasks to do. Watching Chrontendo was a real eye-opener to me, seeing how bad your average Fami/NES game actually was.

Alright, I looked it up. Its not that they allow emulator runs, its that they allow Wii Virtual Console runs. Which is, an official emulator that has a different controller and probably takes more to crash than a real N64 would.

Lol, seriously? The RNG aspect of the ACE is the worst part of these runs. I hate to vie in favor of Cosmo here, but I don’t think preparing the controlling should count against him, otherwise this enters Goldeneye 007 Frigate levels of stupidity. In the same hand, the chimpout might be funny.

Edit: the lad got a 9:19 so if his previous WR is under review still, lol, they better make up their minds

Narcissa is running a video right now supposedly shaving off 10 seconds coming down to 9:09 in hopes of getting under 9 minutes so yeah, they better figure this out.

Maybe this win is just what he needs to de-troon and be a real member of society again. It would be a fantastic story arc if he pulled an extreme 180 and went full alpha red-pill hitting the gym every day, got legit swole and did a university speech tour about his story and his ascent to the right-wing. "How I stopped Soylent and learned to love the Gym".

Going from a troon cow to a Thernobitch cow isn't a redemption arc.

OoT has no standards at all, I think they might even let people do emulator runs.
Official emulators are okay like VC but for a world record run, you have to use actual hardware nowadays because it's so easy to fuck with games in emulation now last i checked.

A lot of game communities have implemented a rule where you are allowed to do runs on emulator until you're within a certain % of time of the top runners, at which point you have to switch to official hardware. Some games have different categories for different hardware versions, but oot as a community generally just switches to whatever hardware allows you to perform the fastest tricks. Wii vc and other "official" hardware emulators used to be fastest because the load times were the shortest.

Stop speculating on shit you don't know anything about, it's fucking obnoxious when people are like "bwuhh oot is dum game spedrunning is dum ur dum". The people who brought up the menu thing did raise a good point though.

The hardware modification thing is an interesting case. Oot has actually been through this before when the community voted to allow something called an ESS adapter (which zfg was against, but now uses because it's legal). I would imagine they would put this to a community vote, and that it would likely pass because they already voted to allow ESS adapters.

Also if you think cosmo is gonna come back you're a moron. I don't even think he'd be allowed at any speedrunning events because 1) twitch doesn't let people prominently feature banned streamers on their streams and 2) speedrunners fucking hate his guts for the stunt he pulled where he held an entire community website (ZSR) hostage like the narcissistic crybaby he will always be. Actually, looks like EMUs are also allowed, which, as I said, is bullshit but hey there it is. Top runners don't d

J Trudeau of Canada disagrees. I told you they let EMUs on. And with no video reference either....

iirc, iQue (the official Chinese n64) had fastr loadtimes and little to no lag, but some tricks couldn't be done due to how the game was optimized, and actually had some nasty bugs that could occur in gameplay, like how in Hyrule Field, sometimes you'd shoot blanks when aiming with your bow, which ended up being the reason why the bottle in Deku Tree Ganondoor method was done mostly on N64/ VC

I never knew that there was a rule like that. I do know some communities do have certain rules in place for emulation (such as, you can only use one certain emulator, and a certain version, one such being Project 64 1.6 for N64 games)
