So, pretty decent 500, by modern Nascar standards. Same as last year. Clean for the first 7/8 of it, we had different manufacturers running different pit strategies and multiple lanes pushing and pulling, and then the Big Juan showed up in the final 20 laps and it all went straight down the bowl. I think I audibly swore when Chastain Chastain'd and tried to fit his car into a hole the size of a Mini Cooper. Once again, Bubba Wallace's ability to fall bass-ackwards into a top 10 finish in a plate race he was a non-factor in, as well as somehow being able to miss Big Juans by pure dumb luck, will never not amaze me. At least the Lego-loving autist who would have been champion last year if not for Nascar's retarded points system took home a 500 trophy as a consolation prize. Slick Willy seems like he's developing into this generation's Mark Martin or Matt Kenseth in terms of driving style and personality- soft-spoken guy who races nearly everybody clean and doesn't get into drama (except for that one time when he punted Dennis under yellow), so he's pretty likable. And it always sucks when you have a statistically dominant season but miss the title because the system is stupid. Hopefully the Earl makes up for it somewhat.
So. The Next Negro just caused not just The Big One but the Massive One, and was smug after. That's going well.
Also SVG DNQ'd and had to have his team owner pay off someone to not race. That's starting well.
I didn't realize the new astroturfed negro in the truck series also raced like a complete maniac and took no responsibility...but I can't say I'm very surprised after hearing that. Trucks at this point is full of kids who have no concept of the idea of "checking up" because they've never had to work on their own junked race cars. Instead, they just quit their A main lobby on iracing and hop in another one, or Daddy buys them a new car. I can't imagine this is going to endear Caruth to the hillbillies in Martinsville, especially since he seems to have lucked into a Hendrick development deal due to nothing other than skin tone. I don't think it was his consistent 20th places in Spire equipment that did it.
Speaking of drivers that are astroturfed, Toni Breidinger, aka Slightly More Competent Natalie Decker, who took 4 years to run a full ARCA schedule and is best known for lifting at Daytona, got caught up in a wreck and got busy ranting at her teammate for being a pay driver. When I was talking about not endearing yourself to the hillbillies in Martinsville and Dega- that's also how you do it. There's only one reason why she has all the sponsors she does, and it sure ain't talent.
Disappointed to hear that SVG got RHR'd in top-tier equipment. Even more disappointed to find out he got junked barely 4 laps in. I know it's Daytona and you can never judge someone's competence based on a plate track, but I hope he doesn't end up turning into De Vries in Nascar.
