Likely nothing more severe than being born after 2000 and thinking he knows everything anyway. He doesn't seem to realize that those "dark era" games, Doom and Quake in particular, revolutionized and refined the tech assimilated into his Goldeneye and Halo. He probably thinks Doom is the one on the N64.

Beyond that, though. 'Toxic masculinity' in Doom? Why? Because Doom Guy is a space marine? Jowls too manly?

Look I'll admit I never played Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and classic Duke Nukem, but what the FUCK? Turok, the games that revolved around being a badass masculine dude(who iirc is literally half naked in the entire first game)is a gold standard while the then mostly faceless Doomguy was toxic masculinity? I know what he means by no co-op, but not mentioning how Doom spawned a massive community that made map after map by hand and later with better digital tools, and spawned lots of online play for years after the game was first made? Calling the music in Half-Life and Doom bad? No allied AI in HALF-LIFE, what?! And appalling artstyles, what do you expect, people loved it for the time even if some think it's ugly as sin now, but for the time it was good. Atrocious AI, no dynamic combat...

What the fuck did I decide to read today? What is this? I think I have second-hand autism now. This brainlet has no concept of how revolutionary, loved, and awesome some, if not all, of this shit was at the time.

I think Goldeneye and Turok are still fun to play even if they have lost their shine due to age.

For Turok, get the HD re-releases by NightDive. Great stuff there with mouse control, 1080p, and 60fps. Mostly ported by the same guy who made that port of Power Slave/Exhumed.

Beyond basically defining how modern FPS and 3rd Person Shooters control on consoles, Halo had really good AI (it and FEAR probably have my favorite AI in any FPS), massive levels with scale not seen in a lot of other shooters (aside from something like Delta Force), and let you go seamlessly from on foot to ground and air vehicles.

Golden Eye was fun to play split screen with drinking buddies, but that's a really low bar to clear. It and Perfect Dark do some really neat things with mission objectives based on the difficulty level you are playing on. It and Perfect Dark also have a really fun arsenal of weapons. Coming from a PC FPS background, controlling them at the time felt awful, especially at those frame rates. They were probably more of a novelty and not worth your time now (I remember hating the Perfect Dark release on X360).

Turok on the other hand holds up pretty well. I played through it last year for the first time and was loving the old school level design minus some of the platforming.

Perfect Dark holds up pretty well in 1080/60 with Keyboard and Mouse. Decent gunplay, cool artstyle, pretty challenging on Perfect Dark difficulty even with improved aim. I can understand why Goldeneye never got a rerelease but I'm a bit disappointed they never ported Perfect Dark to PC.

And of course they ResetEra would react like that to the whole Skyrim Grandma thing. What did I expect.

I'm seeing a running theme of people whining that peaceful protest doesn't solve anything, but they're being very vague about what looting achieves beyond new televisions.
