I guess there are more eyes focused on branches of the entertainment industry, but periodic crunches are pretty standard stuff.

Just like game journalist modes are described as "disability accessibility", this pearl clutching about crunch is a means of browbeating an industry that doesn't care about them or their opinions.

I'm hesitant to call people lazy, especially game devs. Making games is hard, harder than most people give credit for. But as has been shown in games from the Chuck Tingle game to Mass Effect: Andromeda, "their guys" can't handle it. They bought into the "game developer Barbie" image of game devs who code in between hanging out at Starbucks and Tweeting political takes.

And as @Emperor Julian said, they've been gunning the game ever since it was announced, so any legitimate points are buried under a mountain of bias and rage.

I don't get the bitching frankly. You have the choice of any job in the world and you for whatever reason decided you wanted it to be games. Well, games have a very weird set of business practices and crunches are routine. Get another job if you don't like it asshole.

I have had jobs like this and that crunch period can actually be thrilling and fun, if you're insane. The kind of people who like making games structured the production process in such a way that it leads to this. You can literally do any other job in the world instead of just being a bitch and whining about what everyone else is coping with just fine.

The employees were prb offered the choice of getting overtime by putting in a day per week extra followed by a nice paid leave, or to drag their work on for longer and lose their on-time bonus.
