I looked up GAF's webhost, and it's Liquid Web, which, if you're dumb enough to pay Liquid Web prices (cheapest dedicated server is $200 a month, cheapest cloud VPS is $60 a month), then you're tech-stupid. Much cheaper (and better) webhosts out there, and you choose that EL? God, you're dumb.

Discord was arguing about how long it takes to get a server up, and it seemed like a lot of them were under the impression that NeoGAF has some super advanced server infrastructure. That ResetEra would of course take a long time to get up, and not be something you could throw together in a a day.

Some real top minds in there, one was throwing his technical weight around as a webdev, wew

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Lowtax usually stay in his room and only comes out a few times each year to then go back after reminding people he's alive. While the wider SA forum can safely ignore his existence between those apperances and carry on as nothing has happened.

Doesn't that that long to throw a server up. Install NGINX, PHP and MariaDB (because let's face it, MySQL is shit by now), and throw in a firewall (Cloudflare and on-server), and you're good to go.

You could save GAF. Just saying if Malka got mods that were moderates or politically neutral and relaunched the forum without Off Topic and banned non-gaming related political discussion then the site would likely start to grow again. The gaming side wasn't that bad and could have been made better by having a moderating staff that actually liked games and didn't give a shit about politics or diversity arguments in games.

Lime logged in with a name he used on another Discord server and realized too late. He was always impossible to track because of how common that word is. Pyrelight is more specific. I found a Battletech Kickstarter with a comment from someone with that name. It links to Neogaf. Lime created the Neogaf thread for that Battletech Kickstarter.
