NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

Not only that but I've been seeing a lot of people passing around download links, not solely as a "fuck you dev" protest but also as a "fuck censorship" protest. It helps that the game is under 100mb and is thus easy to share on free file hosting sites.

Some points on when situations like this happen (all too often nowadays): Is there a possibility that devs and publishers know that literal real-time A/B testing of sorts (because that is what it seems like sometimes) perhaps helps them somehow? Is there science behind this phenomenon, because celebrities and musicians especially start some sort of controversy or "just happen" to leak stuff before a new project surfaces, as well as just generating multiple lines of discourse as opposed to make sales the old fashioned way. There have been oopsies on the part of people, but I just feel like there is a formula at play here where a storm generates and pulls apart things, and then somehow is dissipated to certain degree, somehow benefiting someone and just leaving ass-burnt people on twitter who kind of don't matter in the long run.

There is a marketing strategy based on getting free press via outrage. It's what Hatred and early GTA games did, as well as mass shooters who have a manifesto. It's where sayings like "any press coverage is good coverage" come from.

"Leaks" get more eyeballs than a press release, but some leaks are genuine.

While not concrete, a quick way to tell is "Does the company benefit from it?". Destiny was a good example as the Reddit leak of the alpha storyline and the reveal that DLC was already on the disk was bad for them, and the response to that stuff was different from the "anonymous developer interviews" that talked about how the dev tools were shit and got reprinted on Kotaku and other major gaming news sites. It's reasonable to assume that the story and DLC leaks were leaks, but the anonymous interviews were official PR meant to make you feel sympathetic for the devs.

Outrage is not always the right model and it doesn't always work. In Ion Fury's case, I don't think this is a PR move. Before this, the game was being praised everywhere, selling well, and was generally well received until ResetEra came along and pissed on the parade. (Maybe Minky was a verified Voidpoint employee.)

So now review bombing is bad?

Review bombing is bad, as it is generally a useless way of just being mad at something and never has anything to do with the quality of the game itself. REEE of course is mad that they're shit at it and the angry autistic gamers are better.

This was "Overwhelmingly Positive" just a couple days ago and is now swan diving into the toilet as sales tank, massive numbers of people refund, and people openly pirate the game instead of buying it because they don't want the censored version.

REEEE couldn't have done it without the spineless cocksucking of gutless losers, who are now getting what they deserve for their stupidity.

It wasn't a PR move unless you're delusional enough to think giving a mob what they want will satisfy them. While it might have worked with say the New Coke example they likely teach people in PR classes to this day, it doesn't work with the ResetEra troon outrage mob. Caving might satisfy a few trannies who will be happy they stepped in line, but the grand majority either won't buy their game, or they will find more reasons to "cancel" the developers and demand they be fired.

Now had they told ResetEra and game journalists to pound sand maybe Ion Fury wouldn't be getting review bombed nor would it have fallen out of the top sales chart. But right now I guarantee you the developers are praying they'll get that $10,000 back as they sit through that diversity training.

I honestly wonder if they even teach marketing and PR history in business classes these days.

There are so many fuck ups to learn from, you'd think people would avoid the obvious traps.

I wouldn't be surprised if they teach dated ass course material from when times are different, or if the courses have dangerous advice in them. I've learned more about PR disasters from surfing the web all day than many of these PR people have.

>We are not censoring
>We are simply removing

Did you even try?
When NES games had decorative sprites edited out, it was considered censorship. He's digging his own hole PR wise.

All they've done is mark themselves as a bunch of punks who bitch out the instant some troons start screaming.

So just like a jail punk they know they can fuck them in the ass any time they like.

>obvious traps

indeed

He's trying to downplay the fact they are censoring a very minor cosmetic element of the game. But it's a shampoo bottle that says "Ogay"

not "Fuck faggots kill em all" or "trans need to be hanged", just "OGay".

That's fucking pathetic. Can't trust these fuckers with future games either because for all we know they ain't even gonna attempt to have crude humor to appease people who aren't even going to buy their fucking game.

What a shame too because it was far more legit old school than Dusk. And Wrath which I was looking forward to I may not even buy because of this shit.

Yeah I was really, really excited for Wrath but after seeing this shit I'm pretty checked out of modern 3DR published games. I try not to care about the politics around things and just buy a game if I think it looks good, but all of this Ion Fury drama took the wind out of my sails for that too. It looks fun but I don't think I'll end up buying it after all.

I am genuinely trying not to be mad on the Internet right now. It really sucks that someone else has caved to ResetEra.

My question, as always, is "Why?" What does REE have that forces developers to bend the knee? Twitter blasting? Game journalism? Is catering to REE's insanity just a PR move? Because it seems like NOT listening to REE now is good PR. Don't listen to REE, your game makes money. Give in to their demands and it plummets down the sales page.

REE is a cancer, and it needs to be removed. They are not eating each other fast enough for all the damage that they're doing. But if companies would stop listening to them, that would solve the majority of the problem.

they're having a meltdown over their comic book movies, 20 pages within an hour:

also they took care of that self-hating transman:
