How the fuck is there so many people still there. I feel like the long ban lengths would just make them want to stop posting there all together.

The forum's staff chooses to allow certain alts and socks to operate by sufferance.
But as @Bullet Club implies there is a strong throughput of short-lived accounts and you can see it's deleterious effects on the community awards turning into deserts and the few normie-ran community hangouts retreating more to avoid detection by the staff and the troons.

It's quite telling that a forum with about half it's total members and only a quarter of active visitors (at the moment) has a much more active impression and diverse threads. I bet it's financials are also more healthy than this division of the MOBA-group is.

I think the methodology of punishment is mainly at play.
If you make a dumb post here you get a few trashcans and puzzlepieces under that post, no big deal, infact if someone respectfully disagrees there is a special button for that too. Take it a bit further and become an annoyance, and the mods give you the triangle of shame. I've only seen bans happen for actually persistent, vexing, and disruptive behaviour.

If you make a typo or a spicy joke over there you go away for 3 months on the first violation and that is if you're not a junie.
