User tags/titles are a pretty popular feature on forums, expressing yourself with a short message near your avatar and user info is a fun thing to do. Signatures are lame, no one wants to be forced to scroll past some crap at the end of your posts, but a tag is a less intrusive way to...

I can vouch for this. As I'm one of those not very social people, however I'm friendly with everyone at work and my reputation is good because I take maybe one or two vacations a year and otherwise I'm there for work, I only had to call off sick twice in the past 5 years. You just have to be friendly when declining invitations to these social meetings. Alternatively, you show up for a little bit and then say you have to get back to work or something along those lines.
Hell, right now we're all working from home because of wuhan-19 and I feel like I've been more productive because of it.
