Oh boy, another "deep narrative" about the vicious cycle of violence begetting violence while you walk slow behind people at 30fps. What's that, another morally bleak ending? Spec Ops: The Line arguably isn't even a twist except how it's become a talking point for all kinds of people who didn't play it when it came out, the game outright tells you you're going insane Apocalypse Now style pretty early on IIRC (though I guess if you're unfamiliar with the references...)

one "big budget" game from years earlier had a morally bleak ending with a big thunk that didn't require any trendy cynicism: Prince of Persia 2008, straight up has you undo all the good you did in the game and release the villain to save a single person from their fate as you slow walk away with them for the sequel that never came lol

Crunching has been there from word go in the games industry, from the fucking 90s. There's no point in pretending to mediate here, if you expect high quality games that are pushing boundaries in any single way, you will NEVER exterminate crunch.

My guess from the photos of the dev build they showed is that the leaker is part of a localization studio either as a localizer or a game tester. I believe this because the game was playing with Spanish subs the entire time. If I'm right about this then they're just a contractor, they probably aren't even paid by Naughty Dog directly.

#1 was pretty blatantly obvious, like all the people who died in Infinity War would inevitably get revived in Endgame-level blatant to anyone with half a brain. What they should have done was switched Ellie and Joel and made him the survivor out for revenge (especially considering the end of the first game where he sacrificed any real hope for humanity to save her life) but then you couldn't have your moronic lesbian subplot for the people who clapped when they saw them kiss in that E3 trailer (only now it's a 3-way love triangle or something because Dinosaur fucked a guy who also dies and gets preggers because why the fuck not). Of course if that was the case retards would just ree about how the game buried the gays and whine about playing as a straight white man again and Druckmann wouldn't be able to wank himself off over how progressive he is so they just took a guy that was in the first game for 2 seconds and made up some dumb subplot about his daughter wanting revenge.

The end result is a dumb, cliched "we are the Walking Dead" and "revenge am bad" plot that will likely be praised by a lot of critics for how "bold and innovative" its stupid protag-switch and cookie-cutter plot are and fanboys will eat it up but it'll likely end up reaching a Mess Effect 3 level shitstorm because it will inevitably make a lot of people (especially people who like Joel and/or Ellie) really mad which is apparently what ND is aiming for.

As for #2 there's no actual evidence I've seen yet that Abby is trans (and not just a super-butch woman which to the game's credit would fit since that's the kind of person that would be able to survive in the free-for-all post-apocalypse setting). There's also the fact that her shota companion is apparently voiced by a trans person while she herself is voiced by Laura Bailey and I imagine there'd probably be a lot of reeing from your Era types about "digital blackface" if she was actually transgender. She's definitely not very attractive but no one in TLOU2 is so whatever. Even the fucking boxart itself is just Ellie looking as edgy as possible.

She uggo as fuck but at least it fits the setting. She might have worked had the game been written by someone remotely competent.

I want to tell these people (and I already am because they check and refresh this thread every second) that spoilers happen, leaks happen, and they are not entitled to special compensation no matter how close the game is to their woke souls. I remember opening a Vice City strategy guide in WaldenBooks almost 20 years ago. The first thing I saw was "Shoot Lance and run into the hall." That stung. I wasn't halfway through the game yet. But I was dumb enough to open the book near the back. Likewise, one develops a sense for where spoilers are, and if they ignore their instincts and keep looking, they deserve what they get.

Also, calling for a game developer/playtester/whatever to get blacklisted and jailed after embracing all the Schreier drama over crunch just shows yet again the hypocrisy of these awful people.

I'm supposed to get bent out of shape about dudes having to sit for 70 hour weeks once every couple years in air-conditioned offices, eating and drinking catered snacks for $70,000 a year when I have neighbours and friends who are slinging concrete and hot-tar 12 or 14 hours, seven days a week from May to October every year for the last 20 years (some of them wishing they could extend it a few months every year just to try to get ahead).

It just fucking bugs me I'm not saying that Naughty Dog or whatever studio that Schreier and his NPC's are ree-ing about this week couldn't do better. I'm sure they could, but I am also pretty sure that a good chunk of these people doing crunch probably have no complaints on raking in some overtime for a couple of months every few years.

Call me cynical, but something tells me Schreier and co. couldn't care less about the people affected by the crunch. It's just a vehicle to push his own politics and agenda.

Considering there were smaller leaks before this, and the most likely scenario here is that the leaker is a Brazilian localizer, I doubt that.

My understanding is that game devs are typically badly underpaid and everybody’s strung along on the promise of bonuses and other profit-sharing schemes if the studio releases a hit. I don’t know whether this applies to ND specifically, but it’s a common practice in the industry. I remember a Blizzard guy talking about how a lot of their devs were living communally with an hour-long Orange County rush hour commute every day because that’s all they could afford.

There’s an entirely proximate possibility that some ND wagie did this because they were behind on their rent and bills and were counting on the bonus check when their game released with record sales.
