So reading the poverty thread. This one really pisses me off personally because some of the people posting in that thread don't know what poverty is.

If you want to know what poverty is, poor is when you live in the slums of city with helicopters over you every night and gangsters shooting each other for stupid reasons and the police then has to pick up the dead bodies after a gun battle and poor is when the only forms of entertainment that you got is a checkers board set and eating instant ramen noodles and frozen microwavable meals for dinner.

Now unless you live in a third-world country where you are given little options, live in a bad neighborhood (such as Compton) or live in a bad city such as Detroit), well there really is no excuse for a lot of people living in the first world to even be poor a lot of times that I notice that most "poor" people in the United States waste their money on stuff that they don't really need.

If you want a bit of insight into my life, I never had video games as a kid, I also never had cable television back then, the Internet was almost unavailable to me, the only things I did watched on telelvsion that were at least free was PBS and any Looney Tunes reruns on free-to-air television, and ride in one of those beat up cars that you see many low income immigrant workers drive. I'm really glad that my situation got better as I grew up and I'm grateful for the things that I now have. But the arrogance that these people thinking that they're "poor" because they couldn't get a video game that they wanted back then actually pisses me off.

If you want poor then I'll show you it and you'll be grateful for the things that you take for granted. Sorry if I'm getting a bit personal for lolcows here but it's one of those things that really pisses me off because seeing these idiots thinking they can't get a video game is "poor" reminds me a lot of the idiots that waste money on 'Supreme' clothing thinking this is what rich people wear (people with money don't wear that stuff by the way).

Anyway, this incident right here is why I don't elect to give white people the benefit of ignorance when it comes to racism. Amy specifically knew what the consequences would be for sicking the cops on a black man. White people understand, at the most, that there are systems in place that benefit them just for being white and that they can use and weaponize those systems against people of color anytime they feel mildly inconvenienced or have their ego tested, whom they don't even consider to be people, by the way. I mean, the whole list is bad and should feel bad, but one tiny point - he's complaining about 'no allied AI' in Doom, where you're fighting hordes of hellspawn. One of the really fun things in Doom was that you could make them fight each other, because why the fuck would they be allied? They're literal demons.

I mean, if we're going toxic masculinity I can see Duke Nukem being on the list, but putting in Doom? Putting in Doom but not Wolfenstein? This is someone who has a hate-boner for PC gaming in general and one of the universal classic games of all time in particular.

GoldenEye and Turok were both successful in their time not because they were all that good, but because every other console FPS was that much worse. That's the big breakthrough you can actually credit Halo with: it didn't control like shit.

God, just try and play Turok now. Or for that matter try to play Perfect Dark, running at about 12 frames per second and randomly crashing your N64.

Even the toxic masculinity one is busted, if you assume ERA standards for it. Duke Nukem at the time on the PC was a parody that had not yet descended into the "toxic" version he likely associates with the character, that came in the console versions and the long slog to DNF during which they sorta lost the plot on how he was a parody. Doom has a silent protagonist who literally has three faces, a smirk when he picks up guns and a hurt face when he gets damaged. Saying Doom has "toxic masculinity" is saying that all shooters do, which no longer exempts his N64 favorites.

Be amazed at just how brain-dead the AI actually is when you aren't fighting the controls and can shoot enemies quickly. Console shooters have a bad rap for good reason. Aim assist was invented for console shooters for good reason. Shit's multiple tiers lower than PC shooters and even Halo didn't change that much (to say nothing of Halo having had presence on PC as well as console for quite some time, and more so now with the Master Chief Collection).
