🐱 Netflix Movie 'Cuties' Could Be Investigated For Violations Of Child Exploitation Laws

Texas lawmaker has called for the Netflix film Cuties to be investigated for possible violations of child exploitation and child pornography following uproar over a poster that sexualizes the young actors—but the film's creator says the film itself has been misinterpreted.

Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, Matt Schaefer has asked the state's attorney general to conduct an investigation.

Schaefer announced his plans on twitter amid calls to "cancel Netflix" which began trending on the site.

"I have asked Texas Attorney General Paxton's office to investigate the @netflix film Cuties for possible violations of child exploitation and child pornography laws. #CUTIES#txlege," he tweeted.

Titled Mignonnes in French, the film sparked hundreds of thousands of calls to #CancelNetflix on Twitter this week, following its release this week.

Netflix's promotional poster for the movie sparked intense backlash last month for showing the child actors wearing revealing dance attire of shorts and crop tops and striking various dance poses, like kneeling on the floor and squatting.

I didn't say don't be mad at Cuties, nor did I say you can't be mad about it if you weren't made about those other shows. I'm not in anyway saying any form of CP is acceptable, because it's not. That's some intense putting words in my post that aren't there. Cuties takes it to an extreme that's terrible. I think people have every right to hate it and be against it for all the reasons listed in this thread I just don't get why it was ever allowed to get to the point that this film was brought to American audiences and only now are we seeing mass outrage when the content is only slightly worse than other programs that have aired on various channels over the the years.

I wasn't defending anything I was ruminating on how there was a precedent set by other shows that were only slightly tamer and it's weird how it's only becoming a big issue now when other shows consumed by the America public opened the door for Cuties. The exploitation of kids is a serious problem and recording them prancing around in sexuallized outfits, dancing sexualized routines, etc - to broadcast it to a wide audience should have been something lambasted more far before we ever got to this point.

They're all terrible.
What other media that has been placed infront of an American audience that should garner the same outrage as this movie?
A lot of that could be caused by the fact that tensions were never this high in the past.
lol no.

If this was brought to the attention of the American public in literally any other period of American history the level outrage would be the same if not worse. I completely detest the fact that people are extra upset because of "Current Year".

I'm not saying it's the only reason, I'm just saying that it could easily be a part of the equation. Everyone may be a little bit twitchy out-and-about in the real world, but the internet at large is a particular kind of powder keg at this point and it's a really, really bad idea to even strike a match, but these people thought that lobbing a molotov would be perfectly safe. This was the perfect time to add one more straw to the camel and have everyone scream, "Alright, fuck this."

I feel like people who are making the comparisons of Toddlers and Tiaras and Dance Moms have either never watched those shows, or they're being very dishonest to win an argument.

For one thing, how can anyone forget just how much people shat on these shows? Any time the kids would be wearing anything remotely revealing, anytime they were dancing in a provocative manner, people would always get in an uproar and demand the shows be canceled. I remember the time everyone lost their shit when some young girl dressed up as an actual prostitute. There's a 2011 article about it on CNN. Read it. It's actually a great article, back in the day before everything was politicized.

To say that no one cared about these shows is such bullshit. There have been several online petitions through out the years demanding the shows be canceled. Hell, these shows *still* get shat on, and not just because "Cuties" is trending right now.

For another thing, as bad as those shows were/are, their content is no where near as bad as "Cuties". These shows never had the camera pan over, zoom in, and linger on the children's body parts, nor do these shows feature the kids taking photos of their genitals with their phones, blowing up a used condom, and they certainly don't show any nudity. The kids never talked vulgar, nor were anyone of them grinding on each other.

For the record, I absolutely hate Toddlers and Tiaras and Dance Moms. I feel like they do sexualize children, and even if they don't, they're still awful because they are exploiting children. That being said, comparing those shows to "Cuties" is insanity. They aren't even close to being on the same level.

Look at how MovieBob froths at the mouth at the prospect that Netflix will be investigated for child porn.

"The vestigial dregs" that "21st century humanity is evolving to leave behind" are people that don't want children sexually exploited? Wasn't child exploitation a normal occurrence throughout human history that is only relatively recently seen as morally wrong? Humanity evolved to see it as such. He is the one who is retrograde.
