Netflix's The Witcher series

The problem is you have these old fucks who don't understand the market anymore and these 'hip, young' millenials telling them there's crowds and crowds of these people looking for 'woke' shit and look how it gets trending. These people still believe in the folly that 'bad press is good press'. The problem is the bad press is saying 'White people deserve to die and not get hired' or 'The future is female'. The problem is that they don't realize this turns off men, women, minorities as well. They cannot comprehend this. Face one of these woke people down with a minority who goes against the grain and 9 times out of 10 they will struggle to not call him a nigger to his face. They're the most racist cunts around.

The problem is that they're completely unyielding. Their ideology and cognitive dissonance will not allow them to. I posted this in the 'Deep Thoughts' thread, but their ideology and reality collide. This cognitive dissonance causes massive distress, which we see in the form of the vitriol, bitterness and anger these people spew. They retreat to people who tell them what they want to hear, which reinforces their beliefs to the point of literal delusion. And that's the problem. They don't understand that they're wrong, not everything is political nor needs to be. They also lack basic functions of empathy and compassion. They simply cannot put themselves in anyone else's shoes. That's why these products are laughable and have ridiculous plots and dialogue. They cannot relate to anyone other than their in-group.

What makes this different than other moral movements and other greedy corporations is that these people do not go looking for answers. They cloak themselves in this delusion that they're on the right side of history. Voices in the industry are constantly silenced, as are those on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and media platforms. This creates this illusion that there's this mass of wokeness out there, when in reality its only about 17% of normies support any sort of socialism. People are growing less tolerant of LGBT people. Men now only believe rape claims about 50% of the time. This is a huge problem and evident of very two distinct cultures. The problem is the minority culture is in power at the moment, which doesn't favor meritocracy, good stories or even profitability.

I think for the first time in our history, we're seeing corporations primarily driven by morality than by profitability. They sincerely wish to 'change society through art'. The problem is this doesn't work. Society is an uncontrollable mass. Censoring, shaming, isolating, de-platforming, doesn't work. It just emboldens resistance.

Another part of the equation is America's streak of 'fuck off'. America basically always had this frontier attitude of spite-fucking and not being told what to do. Culturally it works on weak, white, rich millenials but we see it failing time and time again. I think we're in for years of this until it eventually just collapses because the entertainment options have just become too ubiquitous. You can't force someone to go see this woke trash, even if you own all of it.

That's why so many of these fucks espouse Communism. They want to force this on you. Because nobody, absolutely nobody, wants what they are selling.
You're somewhat right and somewhat not. We've always had these overeducated asshats trying to perfect a new humanity ever since the Mayflower landed. It just comes and goes with cycles it seems and the people themselves morph heavily by the generation but this type of utopianism partnered with giant corporations hasn't been new for decades.

Tbh Triss looked kind of fucked up in Witcher 3 anyway.

When was she intelligent in Witcher 3? "Oh no don't tell Radovid where Philippa is even though she totally betrayed me and had me turned into a statue that she may or may not have used in her bizarre sex with her intern/spy. Honestly still think the Lodge is pretty cool!"

I think I'm ready to stop following this person and this show. There's no way it'll ever be good. Just read through this shit and tell me her heart's in the right place.
Paraphrasing, "I asked my Polish friends whether Polish culture can be reduced to skin color, they said no, so I made a bunch of characters black because Polish culture is not synonymous with whiteness". W H A T. Where are Polish costumes then, Polish actors, Polish music? Where's that fabled and respected "Polish culture" in your production? I can't seem to notice any.

"In the books, no one pays attention to skin color, it's only about ears or height" - no shit, maybe because the society described there was pretty homogeneous and every time people saw Zerrikanians or other exotic peoples they immediately knew they are NOT FROM HERE.

Fuck it, I'm done.

I disagree with her points here but that was way more reasonable than I was expecting based on your description and the fact that she's replying in earnest to someone that opened up with jewish conspiracy memes and types like a /pol/ reject.

What the fuck does America's past have to do with fantasy Poland?

Also, I heard from someone else that this Lauren chick said she only read the first book and it didn't appeal to her so she decided not to read the rest of the books. If that's true, I just gotta ask: why the hell is she involved in this, then? Why be the head honcho on a show based on a series you didn't even like? This thing is gonna be so damn passionless, holy shit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I feel so damn bad for Cavill. He's such a nerd for both the books and games, and he gets every nerd's dream of being cast as the main character in their favorite series, only for the suits to cock it up by handing the reins to people who don't even like the series and want to change seemingly every aspect of it to fit their weird narrative. He deserves to play Geralt in a good adaptation made by actual fans, not whatever the hell this is.

Almost makes me glad I know nothing about this series, everything but this show sounds good but of course the going woke going broke Netflix had to screw it all up

The article is pretty interesting, as it shows her contradicting herself. Several times. In just eight tweets. The thing from the screenshotted tweet is some sort of insane historosophical argument about America, which, in the original chain, is a few tweets later followed by "we are making the show for 190 countries" (which is itself an incorrect statement, for hopefully obvious reasons) and "I’ve been clear about my actions not being a result of “feeling liberal.”".

I'm getting really tired of creatives in my country appropriating stories from other cultures and using it as an excuse to engage in a fit of narcissistic intellectual masturbation, injecting all their own baggage into the adaptation.
It's so consistent with Netflix in particular that I now think there's an unofficial mandate from Netflix executives to include racial minorities in a certain % of prominent roles. It not being Hirsch's decision might explain why she's been so maddeningly inconsistent in her justifications for racebending the series.

The only thing that I take heart in is the fact that fans aren't letting it slide, and it's waking up people who wouldn't normally care about this sort of thing. I was very reassured the other day when in water cooler talk this came up in conversation, and everyone agreed at this point it was a forced diversity initiative and not an attempt to actually enrich the story.

It's not.

Also is it just me, or have they deliberately darkened Yennefer's actress for this pic? She looks nowhere near that dark in other footage.

There is a an official "unofficial" diversity mandate yeah.

Is Triss no longer a redhead? What's the point to her as a character then?
In the books she's kind of a foil for Yennefer and part of a big thing about how the victors write history (she's remembered as "almost pathologically fearless" whereas book Triss was actually kind of a coward). The only reason I can think of for introducing her this early is that despite criticizing the game version they're introducing a love triangle that was practically nonexistent in the books. Which bodes poorly.I might still forgive it if she was a hot big titty redhead waifu but she's played by an uggo so I won't.

They can't keep getting away with it.

Actually that got me thinking: is there any good reason they couldn't cast all/most the actors from Poland? I can see how having a big name like Cavill as the protagonist might draw people in and grant the show legitimacy, but I think it would be really cool to see some polish representation and it makes me sad that it's not the case. Also I think that the polish accents might do alot to give the world a sense of being fantasy instead of the generic american accents again and again and and again.

Also if they make Nilfgaard into Nazi Germany (Temeria edition!) I'll probably cry.

Also also, I hope the elves (specifically the Scoia'tael) Are shown to be cuntish racists in their own right instead of poor oppressed POC

Its an adaptation meant to appeal to American audiences. Netflix isn't going to invest hundreds of millions of dollar in a show starring a bunch of nobodies who speak with accents most Americans would struggle to understand. This is the same reason John Cho was cast as Spike in Netflix's Cowboy Bebop despite being 20 years too old and a foot too short for the role. You could throw a rock off Tokyo Tower and hit someone who'd be a more convincing Spike, but Cho 1) speaks with an American accent, and 2) is a fairly well-known actor in America. Cavill isn't a great choice for Geralt, but he's a well-known actor and can fake an American accent (though I imagine he'll be speaking with a British accent in The Witcher).
