Ten of the original programmers, artists, audio team and level designers are taking part in bringing back the uniqueness and humor of the Earthworm Jim series. To celebrate the reunion with the fans, a 20 minute live interactive simulcast streaming event will take place on Saturday, May 4th at noon pacific during the first Earthworm Jim design meeting with the original team. As part of the live simulcast, the team will engage with fans to hear their new vision firsthand, multiple original art pieces will be hand-drawn by the artists, signed by the entire team and given away to people viewing the live stream. We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world,” said Tommy Tallarico, Intellivision Entertainment CEO/President and original Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 composer and sound designer. “Intellivision Amico is designed to bring friends and families together and we are excited for fans and those just being introduced to the series to get a first look as we kick-off the design of the game.” Earthworm Jim is just one of the many new titles that will be coming to Intellivision Amico. I'm not sure whether it's a positive or a negative that the Intellivision Amico and a new Earthworm Jim game will be released just a few weeks after the Sega Genesis Mini, which will feature the original Earthworm Jim.

Are there any screenshots anywhere for the new game? All I can find is concept art. Is it going to be similar to other remakes/re-imaginings of 16-bit (and 8-bit) titles like Castle of Illusion, Ducktales and Wonder Boy: the Dragon's Trap? It's certainly a nice sign that they got the old crew back together but the lack of any gameplay footage for any games on a console launching in only 5 months is a little concerning.

The amico is interesting but has serious problems like using phones for controllers and being totally locked down which means no games + they have a strict kids games only policy + all games must be exclusive + it's server based with no physical media so when it inevitably flops bye bye all your games lol.

Wow, what the hell are they thinking

I could live with this retro-and-indie-game-oriented console not having any physical media as long as the games are downloadable and playable in single or local 2-player mode without an Internet connection.

If the games are all housed on a central server and an Internet connection is mandatory to be able to play them, it will kill any chances of my buying it.

Could be worse. Could be an exclusive to the Epic Store.

It's a 50/50 if the game will be good and we'll see how long it remains an exclusive. Safe bet would be 6 months before it gets ported to everything.

It's not unprecedented.

I remember when I was a kid I found the Intellivision in a closet. My dad got it for my older sibling and just buried the thing in the closet once I got the NES. And I look at the controller like "WTF is this? Is this for games? Is it a weird phone?"

Interplay sold most of their IPs back on 2016 I presume, Tommy Talarico (The composer of EWJ and man behind this console) probally bought it, Doug is along for the ride.

I'll never forgive them for selling the Fallout rights to Bethesda. Somewhere out there is an alterante reality where Troika got the license and gave us an actual open world RPG instead of a series of braindead tunnel shooters the short bus brigade at Bethesda cobbled together.

Who is this for? Forget the shitty controller for a second. The fact that all games are online only with no physical releases pretty much kills the appeal for 9/10 of retro gamers. And the all games are exclusives part cripples them out the gate. I could see some smaller devs porting a game to test the waters or because this thing is so niche it would help them stand out more, but doing unique games for the thing is financial suicide. Without looking into it I'm guessing they paid a lot for Earthworm Jim exclusivity. How many more titles can they bank roll without going broke? At best you'd get devs doing a shitty phone game on the Amico, using that to get noticed, then porting their game to IOS/Android and slapping on a Deluxe or Subsistence subtitle so that it's technically a new game and doesn't violate their contract.

It's not unprecedented.

At least that POS shit was modeled on a phone that had some actual fucking buttons. Seriously, fuck touchscreens with a box of rakes.
