Millennial congresswomen, they’re just like us. No, really, this one is.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the democratic socialist and youngest woman ever elected to Congress, can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington, D.C. before her job starts in January.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?” Ocasio-Cortez, 29, told the New York Times. “We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”

Ocasio-Cortez shocked the country when she secured a primary victory over New York Rep. Joe Crowley, the 10-term incumbent who was widely believed to be the most powerful Democrat in the House after Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Before she turned to politics, Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender.

Now she’s telling voters not to worry about her housing situation.

“There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “This is one of them (don’t worry btw - we’re working it out!)”

Ocasio-Cortez is widely viewed as an up-and-coming star in the Democratic Party in the wake of her surprise win, fueled in part by her leftist policy ideas, which more closely align with millennial voters than her future congressional colleagues. She believes, for example, in single-payer healthcare and has suggested taxing Wall Street to fully fund public universities. She also supports “clean campaign finance,” and has said she will not accept corporate donations.

How long do you think she has as a Congresswoman? Thinking about it, either she burns out quickly and drops out of the upcoming Congress or she is able to get her mouth into the trough and turn herself into a ten-term politico with an oddly large amount of wealth as a public official.

You forgot option 3, being so exceptional she gets removed (also my vote for most likely outcome).

Also, I thought "you just pay for it", why can't she just pay for an apartment to live in?

She could just get a loan. I'm pretty sure banks know she's good for it, at least if the repayment terms are under 2 years.

Taxing Wall Street to fully fund public universities? Well, I suppose it's better than going six figures in debt to get brainwashed and graduate with few marketable job skills.

They'll probably just raise tuition to take advantage of the new source of income.

Or Ocasio-Cortez simply has no idea how economics actually works.

Yeah, I think that's it.

She is dumber than a box of rocks. This article came out a couple of days ago. Keep in mind that she has college degrees in economics and international relations while reading this.

Ocasio-Cortez calls question about how to pay for Medicare for all ‘puzzling’
New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a quick answer when asked how Americans would pay for the 'Medicare for all' plan she and other socialist-leaning Democrats favor: "Just pay for it."

In an interview with Jorge Ramos last week, Ocasio-Cortez was asked how she would pay for the multibillion-dollar health care plan promoted by liberal lawmakers like Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif. Ramos noted critics say the program would be "more expensive" than the current system, to which she answered that people would "just pay for it."

“People often say, like, how are you going to pay for it and I find the question so puzzling because ‘How do you pay for something that’s more affordable? How do you pay for cheaper rent?’ You just pay for it,” she said. “We’re paying more now.”

According to recent studies, the program, first introduced by Sanders over the summer, would increase government health spending by $32.6 trillion over 10 years.

The spending hikes would allow the government to replace what employers and consumers currently pay for health care — delivering significant savings on administrative and drug costs, but increasing demand for care that would drive up spending, according to a study released by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University over the summer. The study estimated that doubling all federal individual and corporate income taxes would not fully cover the additional costs for the program.

But under the plan, all Americans would gain access to government insurance with no copays or deductibles for medical services.

The insurance industry would be relegated to a minor role in the system. Supporters argue that other developed countries already have implemented systems like this, and America’s private insurance-centered model continues to leave some families with crushing costs.

“In a modern, moral and wealthy society, no person should be too poor to live,” Ocasio-Cortez told Ramos. “We should treat healthcare, housing, and education as rights.”

She added: “I believe we should guarantee a basic level of human dignity in America.”

Ocasio-Cortez, who defeated long-time incumbent Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., is the front-runner in her midterm race Tuesday against her Republican opponent Anthony Pappas.

She talks about her "partner", so I'm taking it her boyfriend is a brokeass joke too. Kids today, didja evah?

Wait'll she finds out that her Congrissgurl! job pays a whopping $175,000/year. That's going to seem like all the money in the world to a brokeass bartender. Then give it a year, and watch when she finds out that it's chump change in DC, and the heavy taxation that her socialist heart loves, actually sucks hard in the real world.

I guarantee she will be voting for pay increases for congress.

I want to make fun of this but she’s right, the rich have a monopoly on political power because they set things up this way and it causes nothing but problems for us average folk.

Our system never envisioned a scenario where a worthless 30 year old who never had a job, has no responsibilities, no life experience and no education (formal or informal) would be elected to Congress. A congressman should be a staple of the community that elects him, and have an attachment to said community and the values it holds. He should take the position as if it were a burden, and shoulder the responsibility out of a sense of civic duty. Running for congress as a career move or to enrich yourself is grotesque, just like the bug-eyed bint the story was written about.
