NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens) - Files as crypto currency

I like the idea.

Edit: If he markets them in MATI shows and signs them live, that'd be kino.

Ytubers and twitch streamers alike sell jpegs that usually call back or reference an in-joke that’s related to their channel. Josh could do the same thing.
I don't like NFT's and it is bullshit I agree, however, Jersh did mint silver coins about an actual mother fucker. It would be funny and probably cheaper to sell than silver coins. Fed Smoker NFT wen?

Apologies if there's a better thread for this, but the NFT craze has reached the slowly dying Neopets website in the form of Neopets Metaverse which has faced almost unanimous angry/rejection from the still remaining Neopets player base with blackouts happening on the major fan sites and people cancelling their premium.

I have no idea why they'd think this is a good idea when people are already pissed at the terrible state of the site after the death of flash, but it seems like an attempt to cash in on a fad at the expense of anyone actually still playing. I haven't really seen any actual support for this whole thing from popping in on places like the Neopets subreddit (which goes as far as a sticky'd post against the whole thing) and the biggest fansite Jelly Neo on blackout (going to the site prompts this page which goes over the situation) while also encouraging people to spam out "newly minted" Neopet NFTs through a randomizer they made. Massive outrage already brew, The Neopets Metaverse team added fuel to the fire with this tweet ( deleted after it didn't go over well) which really comes off as damage control an mlm would do after being called an mlm:

The road map the Metaverse team has for the whole project doesn't look much better, as they apparently plan to just leech resources from the original game to make a Pay-to-Play copy that I can guess would mean the shutdown of the current site. I'm honestly just baffled at NFTs making its way into Neopets, but I just don't understand this sudden craze of NFTs for everything in the first place. Does make me sad to see due to nostalgia reasons because if they end up going through with the whole thing it'll be the final nail in the coffin for the already mostly dead site.

It sounds like the main problem is their marketing. If I understand correctly, they're trying to make a Neopets clone on the blockchain which would allow users to easily sell their metaverse gold, items and Neopets for real money.

Their roadmap says they want to make it play to earn. Basically, the metaverse would replace Neopets gold with a cryptocurrency.
Stage 2: The Play-to-Earn Economy

The key difference between Play-to-Earn models and traditional pay-to-play or free-to-play models is that the former utilizes the blockchain economic design to reward its players for their contributions to the ecosystem — usually by way of a fungible token on the blockchain’s native network.

This is what we want to create with the Neopian Metaverse — a universe where any player can earn tokens through skilled gameplay and contributions to the ecosystem.

I think what further exacerbates the problem is the current broken state of the actual site and the glacial pace anything new is added or fixed (there's also very little communication between the playerbase and TNT). For many the shift in focus to promoting this NFT is the proverbial straw the broke the camels back as they were already getting fed up with how the game was getting treated, makes it really seem like a cheap cashgrab by higher ups with little interest in doing anything besides milking the IP. Think that if the game was still receiving proper development and there wasn't already a lot of discontent with how they are handling the game, along with the metaverse having marketing that works better with the audience they 'should' be targeting, it feels like it would have gone over a bit better.

Thank you for bringing this up. I've played Neopets for 20 years, so I've been following this drama. I am honestly shocked. The brand is now owned by Chinese bugmen, but you'd think even they would know better than this. I won't pretend to understand NFTs, but I know a money making scheme when I see it.

Neopets' primary player/customer is women in their 20s and 30s. These people have a lot of disposable income. Yet post-Viacom Neopets has utterly failed to make money off of them, failing to even put up the most basic of merchandise until recently. They had a failed cryptocurrency project before, AND have gotten involved with an actual pajeet scammer who took their money and ran.

This NFT thing might be what kills Neopets and it hurts my heart a little. Chinks and greedy execs doing what Viacom couldn't.

The Neopets Team (the slaves who work on the actual site, with almost no budget) put out an apology on the whole debacle. It's not their job to do so but they did it anyway, and now they're forced to get involved. It's clear the NFTverse isn't going away, and neither is the discord they need to draw in crypto consoomers. It's garbage all around.

I haven't seen consoomerism this bad since trading hats in TF2. It's an actual cult. Remember when NFTs were new and the general discussion was "I want to monetize my artwork"? Artists wanting to be able to make money off of their hour-long projects? Fuck that, now we hit 'generate' on an engine and sell it for $500.

There has to be an easy way to earn money on NFT is all I can think of. Considering doing some basic pixelart and just upload it, see what happens. Not entirely sure how completely unknown individuals are making their sales though, as they have no marketing and their art isn't even all that pleasing.

While I agree NFTs are dumb, I don't really see the difference from the art industry. It's all a scam and tax scheme, just that it's now going digital.

A new article o NFTs appeared:
sounds like this person is arguing against crypto in general
I’d also note here that it’s not physically possible for any technology to prove beyond doubt that something has not been tampered with, because it requires a guarantee that both parties in the transaction are genuine, which isn’t possible without a central authority.

People buy their own work. It builds a history of the artist's work going up in value. The goal being to eventually make a real sale.

How much money you think they lose in gas/transaction fees until they make a real sale? what if most of the market are just these fake transactions feeding a bubble?
At worst they'll lose whatever the fee is for a transaction of whatever crypto was used.

There's no what if, it is an unregulated market. Everything about it is fake in order to take money from idiots.

…or the adoptable traded to feature on geocities link farm pages…

Anyway, I’m in the process of having an NFT commissioned for a client and I am very tired. No one involved understands what they’re doing. They just want tomorrow instant gratification.
So how did it go? did you mint it? did anyone bought it?

I mean you could say that about 99% of the shitcoins out there but there's still money on it
