NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens) - Files as crypto currency

Look at this shit LMAO. How we don’t have a PG thread on people who make NFTs is beyond me. Theres some definite milk here I’d say.

On mobile right now so forgive me for the lack of video archive. If I’m not feeling lazy I’ll do that later and put it into this post with an edit.

what is it about NFTs and crypto that make these people base their entire identity around them? Furries I can sorta understand, weebs too, but fucking monopoly money and jpegs? Most of these people exclusively tweet about how much they've made/lost in the last 60 seconds, have .eth in their name, have an avatar that looks like half of the subjects of this forum spent 5 minutes in paint, or a mix of all three.
I'm wondering the opposite. Why are social media users against NFTs so unbearably emotional about them?

There's plenty other trends I find annoying and I'm not doomposting or losing sleep over them.

In summary:
  • They ruin th environment wi their astronomical electri costs, which can be used in powering entire countries, literally.
  • They are frequently used in profiting obscenely from stolen art.
  • You do not really own them; someone can save the image through the right-click menu.
  • 'The rich' love them.

Most artists I've seen prefer commissions to NFTs for some reason; unlike commissions, NFTs are ready-made. You can get whatever you want as a commission, and money transfers aren't as harmful as NFTs.

Also frequently bought NFTs are edited pictures of same lion or monkey. Not really "art". Think them as an extremely pricy non-custom pictures.

The maker drew a lion and few accessories, put them together and sold them for millions. Actually a good way to gain money from brainrot "crypto-bros".
I don't understand what's the difference between downloading an NFT or purchasing. If it's not custom for you, how is it yours? I can download NFTs on my PC and technically the files are mine now.

So I understand that NFTs are a link in a blockchain pointing towards the art, kinda like an entry in a ledger pointing towards a painting in an art gallery, but what makes these trendy NFT things different from a person buying from an artist a custom art commission? or an 'adoptable'? or buying the intellectual property license or copyright off an existing piece?

The more I study this shit, the more I believe that no one--not a single one--really understands how this all works. But hey, it's a new avenue for money laundering and artists can sell them to suckers who think they're an investment, so good for them I guess.

I recently read something on Tumblr about NFTs, as far as I understood NFTs are just tokens/ crypto money transfers that are symbolised with an image or a file not actually buying a file. So it's actually some sort of a money transfer rather than buying files. Very high likely to be a money laundering scheme.
Some artists consider it as an MLM scheme for "crypto bros".

On the other hand, commissions differ from NFTs a lot. As I said before, NFTs are ready-made digital files. Crypto bros frequently use excuses such as "if you took a photo of Mona Lisa, that doesn't mean it's yours", easy to debunk: Mona Lisa is a physical object, files used as NFTs aren't. You can download a file for free, especially when someone posts NFTs publicly. There's no logic to it. It's better to assume that NFTs are just another money laundering system by the rich.

What makes this $11.5M?

"What makes this $11.5M?"

Remember in Django, Unchained how DiCaprio's character et al were buying slaves specifically for the purpose of putting them up against each other in fights to the death - primarily for amusement?

The same principle applies here... wealth tends to be wasted on the wealthy.

That said, one could argue there is infinitely more value in watching "muscle-bound Jimmies" beating each other to death as circuses than there is in "art" NFTs of that ilk.

Unfortunately that's harder to trade on an exchange.

Are you an NFT collector looking to diversify your portfolio in the physical art market? Or maybe you just are troubled by how easy it is for people to steal your NFT through right click > save as... ? No longer do you have to worry, Phygi.io is here to help. WIth Phygi.io you can finally protect your digital assets by printing them out, allowing the physical object to act as verification of ownership using physical-location-verification technology (a new concept we call "Phygital Assets")

Welcome to deviantArt Prints.

I thought screenshotting was a stupid meme but no these guys really get triggered over other people screenshotting their nfts.

"You're using more energy than a country" is SJW nonsense but NFTs is a scam just like high art. I don't want to imagine how many headaches a blockchain would have to go through to get certified so that it would be admissable as evidence in any real-life matters (if that is at all possible) not to mention how hard it would be to stop bad actors from screwing it up if blockchain ever gets used for more than rich people laundering money with pixel-art.

Pretty funny to see discord users freaking out over it though.

Wait a second, how did cryptocurrency gain any monetary value at all???
