I finally go to check out this NFT stuff that the kids are into, and the vast majority of artwork is copypaste, Mr Potato Head bullshit like those apes and lions. Even to a financial imbecile like me, it's a blatantly obvious scam ready to collapse, propped up by credulous idiots and the shysters feeding on them.

Any quick tips on how to mint my own NFTs before the bubble pops?

People selling stickers they made are to artists, what homeopathists are to brain surgeons. Someone on the level of an Etsy 'crafter' probably flocks to NFTs so they can offload what was already hideous, worthless and previously unsellable.

I imagine actual Etsy members would rather reee about the rainforests.

Near the end of Dick Show ep. 284 there is an interesting argument about NFTs. Somebody argues that collecting stuff for millions is a bad idea by saying buying something like the Mona Lisa for a million is dumb. Dick argues by citing the actual value of the piece completely missing the point. I think he being genuinely dumb.

Pixel art can look fantastic when done right. A lot of SNES games have graphics that still hold up today, even. Here's an example of pixel art done right:
Unfortunately, most indie devs tend to be such insufferable hipsters that they make pixel "graphics" that look like shit - by far the most common offender are "blob" characters where someone draws a square, attaches tiny nub-like legs on them, and dot eyes. By far the most insufferable indie games tend to be "story driven" where they ride off the coattails of Undertale or Earthbound and try to tell some sort of "deep" and "complex" narrative while also being whacky and quirky.

Funko said months ago they were going massively in on NFT collectables. Of all the people trying to get in, they make the most since because they're trend chasers. Doesn't make it any less awful.

I mean they're allowed to go all in on NFT bullshit, but it's kinda a little disgusting they're defiling the grave of a man that specifically wrote a will to attempt to prevent stuff like this from happening. Bob Ross also was an avid lover of nature and I'm sure he would be against NFTs the second he heard how much electricity each one consumes to mint. It's one thing to make money off stupid little calendars, mugs, or even his paints. It's another to use his name for something that has very real environmental concerns.

If it were Pokemon NFT Funkos, I wouldn't care. I just don't like seeing someone being against something so much in life and having their name used for the things they were against. It rubs me the wrong way. Even worse is how inorganic the NFT movement is. Normies don't know what the fuck NFTs are and these crypto bros with their sales pitch come running in with their copypasta on how it's a great thing on every single thread. It's starting to make sense as to how so many middle-aged moms get wrapped up in MLMs...

Other than Yokai Watch, are there any creature collector franchises left? I don't think I've seen Digimon be relevant in over a decade. It's likely Pokemon could embrace it. They have shown they can embrace new tech in order to expand the franchise. Pokemon GO has been a money printer for the Pokemon Company like no other.

If we expand the criteria out to trading cards, I'll put my bets on either Hearthstone or Magic the Gathering. MTG has been super questionable as of late and I could see Papa Hasbro trying to embrace NFTs in the pursuit of more money. Activision always seems to want max money for low effort, so NFTs would be a safe bet, too.

NFTs cost essentially zero electricity to "mint." Perhaps as much electricity as was consumed to make and store your KF post. I know there's a meme going around that every NFT created kills seventy pandas or whatever, but that makes no sense to anyone who has an understanding of the tech involved. Here's an earlier explanation I wrote which explains where the energy consumption in a proof-of-work blockchain comes from; the number and type of transactions in a block is inconsequential to all of that.
