Kids were spending their formative years in orphanages that were hell on earth, and a lot of them were sickly and/or had serious behavioral issues.
I did not know that Nik was an eastern european adoptee but this is a fascinating new dimension to Nik's dorian gray ass assemblage of problems
I have heard this same thing from preschool and kindergarten teachers regarding adopted children who spent time in eastern european orphanages. They spent formative years essentially fighting a pack of other kids for food and comfort, and when they get to usa kindergarten they retain that survival instinct and end up being insanely difficult to deal with. I can see this background contributing to Niko's food obsession/addiction.
