Game Freak was always put together with string. They just had a better coat of paint before. You did not notice it because you were a kid. ZA will probably be the last new Pokemon game I will buy for a while though I will play PLA one day. As far as Gen 10 goes, I just might skip it. I already skipped Gen 8 as I was not impressed by the things I saw. The story and legendries were bad. If Gen 10 ends up as heavy handed with its message as it looks like, that will be bad.

Also, WHY NOT SET IT IN GREECE AND ITALY?! "Boring animals?" Just use the rich mythology to help with that! There are a ton of mythical creatures to take inspiration from there!

Not exactly horseshoe. Just an acknowledgement that the Nintendo fanboys and haters are the same people sperging about everything. No one complains about everything than the Nintendo fanbase. They complained about Wind Waker that they wanted a realistic Zelda, got it with TP and then they complained again that they liked Wind Waker more. The fanboys will screech about everything in a game, Nintendo will do things differently next time and THE EXACT SAME FANS WILL SAY THE FIRST THING WAS THE BEST EVAAARR!

And there are people who argue that the games got worse in terms of polish or balance. LOL! Psychic was king in Gen 1, physical and special attackers were mangled in Gens 2 and 3, Gens 4 and 5 had Dragons or Bust, Gens 6 and 7 were a bit handholding and Gens 8 and 9 had Dexit.

And the less said about the glitches, the better. Gen 1 even let you code by accident! That is how you get MissingNo!

The Pokemon games were never really polished but they were fun.

Here is my problem with Pokemon "fans": they will praise the original games and decry the others. It does not matter how broken they were, they did things better. They will complain about objectmon ignoring Magnemite and Magneton, mock the starters even though they picked on the kids that did not choose Charmander and complain about balance when Psychic was the ultimate type in Gen 1. And demand that Nintendo listen to them even though they never supported a game after first-term Bush. And sadly, Nintendo listened and gave the original games more love than any other.

Let me tell you: BDSP were a result of listening to these guys.

3D made things harder for them, and given the tight as fuck schedule Pokémon runs, it was never going to transition over all too well. If this wasn’t a multimedia franchise that needs new games to coincide with merchandise, the anime, cards and more, maybe things would be better.

The original games (Pre-3DS) were more content rich because the scope was smaller and more inline with what they could do in a deadline. I honestly think going back to 2D would probably really help this series long term. Pokémon were the kings of sprite work which really helped the DS and prior eras still feel polished. Maybe just going full 2D animation would allow for better products as you cut down on asset creation and allow Pokémon can look better and less like lifeless 3D models. Hell, they could just pull a Squenix and go back to the pixel style whole-sale, it was what they were good at.

Leave the 3D to spin-offs that are allowed time to develop outside the cycle and within their own needs.

The Gen 7 3D was a fine compromise. Polish that and keep the games going.

No, it's not rose tinted glasses, there wasn't a bad Pokemon spinoff until probably Dash for DS, which I haven't played but seems fine if it wasn't a full priced release.

I still hate how difficult it was to make my female Violet trainer cute. So I ended up going with whatever accessories matched the purple shorts. I did what I could.

I still can't get over the troon looking musician type trainer with the linebacker physique. And the backpacker looked like a pooner.

First things first, that is worse. Overpriced DVD is far worse. Pure cashgrab.

Secondly, I did not say "horrible". I said that there were bad and lesser Pokemon games even during the Golden Age. Remember how Mystery Dungeon Explorers was split in 3 games? The first Mystery Dungeon games were on both the GBA and DS but what was the point for the split in the sequels? Game Freak did not fell, we just were forced to see how down they already were. They always had a lax attitude with glitches and needles monetization. 3D just made it so more things could go wrong.

Thirdly, I am surprised by how many missed the point of the original post. It was not a post praising or condemning Nintendo but rather an expression of frustration with the state of discourse. Reviews calling every game great, reviews calling every game bad, all with clickbait titles and thumbnails. Do you know how hard it is to make an informed decision when there is no one that is willing to be impartial? I want the good and the bad!

Lastly, I do not buy Pokemon games for the insane polish (which they never had) or the perfect balance (that never was). I buy the games to play a fun adventure! Rare it is that I did not have fun with a Pokemon game. And I hate how some of you praise the old games like they were either polished or balanced. The only polish there was in the old stuff was the occasional guy who named their Pokemon or character "Kurwa" as a joke. And balance has not been a thing in many Pokemon games. One or two types run everything most of the time and everyone shits on Bugs. You condemn the newer stuff but forget the many issues the older stuff had! I played those too years later, they do not hold up! But I still had fun!

All in all, I want to find out if ZA is a game I will like. It might do some things great but what if it is not stuff I care for? What if it is bad at the stuff I might enjoy? I cannot find out because no one wants to give a straight answer and that is annoying! I will wait for people whose opinion I generally trust to make a review and then decide.

Being unremarkable is better than being predatory mobileslop. Something like Hey You, Pikachu! is even kind of a ambitious for trying to do the whole microphone with voice recognition technology at the time, even if it's not particularly fun to play and so is relegated to being a mild curiosity. Pokemon spin-offs absolutely have gone done the shitter.

I do think though that complaints that Pokemon is some kind of golden child who's overly defended isn't true anymore. I'm not saying the game is good necessarily, but Z-A doesn't look any worse at first glance than SWSH or SV did (and from what I've heard it at least runs better than SV), but people on Youtube and various forums have been super eager to rip into it in a way they've never been with previous games. Despite there being fans who will defend the game, I think SV finally broke the spell and many people including mainstream sloptubers are all looking to lynch Pokemon now for being sub-par since it went 3D.

Just buy what you find fun. It is not like there is any of the "Console" makers that are not shitty. Two have stopped making real consoles and the third is using its new monopoly to play Dictator. There are no good guys here, just different versions of crap.

Speaking of things you can't play on goytendo's service, you should get a rom of FE4 with a translation patch. All the modern FE games rip it off and goytendo is never going to localize it due to its adult story and lack of infininiggers. I picked up a pair of FE game roms from pretty much every generation after the September direct showed me goytendo is going full speed ahead on turning Fire Emblem into Sub-Saharan Emblem.
