So what I am getting from this thread is that Sonic fans will take another W in the kart racing genre this year.

Sorry Mario, but does you kart racer have Nickelodeon IPs crossing over?

Mario Kart World feels like what I like to call a "Stealth 3D Mario" (no relation to the fanboy Stealth). It's disguised as another game, but Nintendo aren't allowed to make as many 3D platform games as they want these days, so they have to sneak it into other genres. A large part of the "open world" I mean "open air" in Mario Kart World will be filled with little timed challenges and collectathons, such as the returning "circle gate challenges" from Mario Kart DS scattered about. The collectible costumes (which will make the character selecting menu a massive pain) don't seem to have any benefit or gameplay effect whatsoever, they're just another collection quest.
I feel like Nintendo has no idea what to do with Mario Kart, and really hasn't since 7. The competition have mostly caught up to them by now and are largely doing more interesting things. As posted above, Sonic has been consistently quality and experimental with his racing titles since Sumo took over (Yes, even Team Racing was still quality). I look at the new Sonic Racing and they seem to just be going all out with multiple vehicle types and courses that will change midway through.

A fundamental issue with modern Mario Kart, to me, is that it lacks any flavoring. I can get Nintendo wanting to avoid making it largely skill based like Crash or Sonic, but there is nothing there to substitute. Mario Kart used to be a chaotic hell, especially Double Dash and Wii, but they have toned down so many elements that races just feel boring.

Haven't played World yet, so maybe it is different, but going off reactions, it seems to be middling at best.

People have been blaming Gamestop for this which is fair enough I suppose since they stapled the shit, but I personally blame Nintendo themselves. Nintendo really cheaped out on the packaging to the Switch 2, under the front box lid is the fucking tablet with thin plastic on it and that's it. There was a dude on Youtube who had his box all busted up in the corner right were the tablet part of the Switch was very close to damaging the system.

Nintendo put the most fragile and important part of the console in the most vulnerable spot with no fucking protection. They don't even have a cover over the top of the contents of the box like most companies use when they package their products for this very reason, protection.
That is true lets just agree both are equally retarded and Nintendo is also cheap as fuck.

Paid less out of my checking than I did in 2017 after dumping over $300 in coin rolls into the bank, so far I genuinely love the new joycons more than the originals just because the buttons don’t feel like reused N3DS parts (right down to reused tooling, remember colored button mods in 2017?) with a mm more travel like the originals did, swear to god redownloading shit off the eShop goes way faster now too. Also still able to charge it with a laptop charger so I can just carry my thinkpad charger around for dual duty as usual. Will report on mayro krat later, cyberpunk after that if I can find videos of it running on decklikes built in screens and not video capture to see how FSR on 800p minimum handles compared to mobile DLSS on 1080p.

Early reviews for Mario Kart World seem to say while the mechanics and races are still as fun as ever, it's not as good as 8 Deluxe and the open world is basically a barren wasteland. lol LMAO
Not surprising. Mario Kart is fun and, yeah, World looks fun, but it can only take you so far. I think Nintendo forgot how much Breath of the Wild defined the Switch. It was a phenomenon when it came out and everyone was praising it left and right. I think at one more there were more copies of the game sold than Switch. It also allowed Nintendo to stagger releases since it was such a big game. Mario Kart World looks like it doesn't have that staying power.

Also I've seen Rainbow Road and it looks fucking sleep inducing. Pinnacle track and the most you have are half turns.
Walked right in to Walmart at opening and got one no problem. There was only 5 other people doing the same thing and the store had 30+. Glad I didn't wait in line last night.
That seems to be the case. I thought it was interesting I never once heard about some struggling to get a preorder and not surprised you can walk into a store now and just get it at launch. Saw one image of a Best Buy with like a hundred of them. I'm sure they wanted to make sure there were no shortages, but I think Nintendo overestimated demand for this thing.

Not only that but it isn't immediately apparent which end of the box is the top side while opening it and the tablet isn't secured very well. I almost dumped mine onto my kitchen floor while opening it like a retard.

I didn't have a pre-order and walked right into walmart and got one without even a line. Even my shitty podunk town had over 20 in stock.

Scalpers are going to eat shit on this lmao

Yeah I just walked into Target and picked one up like an hour ago. The employee said they didn't have as many people show up as they thought. wasn't even planning on buying one tbh

Same thing. I have a MIG Switch and wanted to know what happens when you put in a switch 2 without internet. Maybe Doug Bowser will come to my house and sue me.
not sure if this is true but apparently nintendo got ahold of some people who got the device early and were threatening them. Wouldn't fucking surprise me either, Nintendo has been pretty fucking dumb lately.

How does this even happen? Don’t pay attention to the price since eshop thinks i’m in Australia. But how does the Welcome Tour get to number 3 on the eshop charts?

In any case, having your SINGLE launch title be a weak Mario Kart entry, one that has to
follow up the nearly decade dominating MK8 DX+DLCs, is beyond insane. I get MK sells well, but the fact they don't even have one other new exclusive until July is insane to me. Switch 1 had a similar problem at release but the concept of a portable "modern" console was enough to sell people and keep them waiting. Is 60fps and 900p portable really as much of a wow factor in 2025 as the concept of the switch itself was in 2017? I'm sure it'll sell decently, but I have my doubts its going to be as successful long term.
Woah buddy, ONE exclusive, and that's an $80 one due to the higher price tags this gen?
lmfao, nintendo fans really are just (pay)pigs, eating whatever shit lands in their trough until the next big helping of slop falls thru the tube.

Characters are unlocked in two different ways: Proper characters are unlocked via beating Grand Prix Cups (Donkey Kong is unlocked via the Mushroom Cup, Daisy via the Flower Cup, Rosalina via the Star Cup, Lakitu via the Shell Cup, Birdo via the Banana Cup

What did Nintendo mean by this

My first impression is that I like the system. The screen is great, I don't know why people say that OLED is necessary, especially when it risks burn-in. The speakers and audio are a huge improvement, apparently after all these years Nintendo finally listened to all the people that have kept telling them to stop using shit speakers. Everything so far seems to work well. The one issue I've had is that the system seems to keep randomly dropping my internet connection for a few seconds and then it reconnects, which is annoying to have those messages "You're disconnected from the internet" when you're playing only to find out the connection has already been re-established. However, I can't be sure that is purely the Switch 2 and not my internet contributing to that since my internet connection can act like shit sometimes. I'll have to wait and see if anyone else runs into similar problems.

I don't know where all the hate is coming from, I'm perfectly happy with it.

I saw that this released today so I went and looked it up to see how much it cost. It was $699 for the Mario Kart bundle. For $680 I could buy a 512GB OLED Steam Deck that'll probably be able to emulate the switch 2 in a few months.

Another man's treasure I guess. Just seems like a steep pricetag for no pack-in, and a somewhat middling Mario Kart game as the only exclusive, I kind of get why some people have their reservations about it. When Metriod Prime 4 gets a release date, I'll think about pulling the trigger on it, but the lack of solid exclusives lined up for the launch year isn't exactly wowing me right now.
